I dont understand... How could it possibly show you the caller's name if it's not in your contacts? where is it getting the name from? Maybe I'm not reading your post correctly
If you have caller ID & name display features on your wireless account, then it displays the "name display" portion as the person is calling you (ie. LAST NAME, FIRST). On 4.0 I noticed that if they aren't in your contact list and you look at recent calls, it now shows their "name display" in the list, and when you click on that it shows their phone number.

I just downgraded to 3.1.2 and now, like it was before, the "name display" portion shows up while they're calling you, but in the recent calls list, it only displays their phone number, not their name.

So judging from this thread, there is no additional/ extra features from this beta 2?

I thought there was over 100 new features...I can only count about 19 lol.

When 3.0 betas got closer to the final release, was any new or significant features added near thr end?

All the features that are in the beta's are the one's that developers can use to improve their apps. All the cool new flashy shiny turbo mega features, that only affect end users, won't be in the beta. (Like a blue to silver UI makeover)

So we still could see some significant UI changes and some cool new features?

Well we don't have any officials lists yet, but from what I've seen less than a quarter of the 100 new end user features have been revealed. I'd say we've got some nice surprises waiting for us.

Got it, thanks for clearing that up. I have caller id on my account but not name display. I didn't think it was available on cell phones ( I have name display on my house phone)

I'm afraid I'm not very convinced by that. The 2.0 and 3.0 betas didn't deliver anything significant in the final releases.

Safari and all of my web based apps were rendered useless on beta 2, only worked when connected to wifi for some reason. I had to revert back to 3.1 until beta 3 is released :(

Beta 2 has been horrible for me. The phone has a lot of problem with it, not booting, locking up, performance issues, heating up, not syncing, not charging, and a ton of other random crappola. Beta 1 was much more stable. I can't wait for Beta 3; hopefully they will fix some of these issues.

I have about a dozen bugs submitted right now, and so far, all of them are still open. :(

Camera app crashes when taking a photo or video, typing "me" auto-corrects to mr, app page transitions are laggy, scrolling is laggy, touchscreen precision has deteriorated a bit, slide to unlock screen is laggy. Overall quite laggy. However, the app exiting transition to the homescreen is a lot smoother.

I have a problem with the auto correction that i did not see anyone mention. When a word is auto corrected, the word comes up above as usual with the little x, but if u dont want the correction and try to hit the x, it doesn't work. I have had to backspace and then retype the last letter.

I am also having problems (as others noted) where the keyboard wont let me select a letter, even if i hold down and try to drag over it, it will just skip the letter i am trying to type.

One question i have, if i download a copy of 3.1.3, can i install through Xcode? I have seen people saying they are downgrading until beta 3 comes out, but how?

I'm glad to hear it's not just me havin this issue, try typing me it will auto-correct to ms

I have had a welcomed relief in doing a clean restore and not restoring from backup I got mms back, along with 3G/wifi connection issues with apps are now gone and amusingly the unified inbox finally works

Don't think I'm gonna upgrade to B2... just downgraded to 3.1.3 from 4.0b1. Goodbye 4.0b1... you were awesome while I had you :(

Can you please tell me how you downgrade to 3.1.3 from a 4.0 beta?

Thanks,

Jordan

I found a pretty good step by step to downgrade if anyone was intersted:

I just discovered that the threaded emails don't work with gmail when it's setup to push through exchange. I also don't like the way that it loads emails for the last 2 weeks or however long (reloading the all each time) when it's setup through exchange. 4.0 offers a great solution to this issue. I have my gmail account setup twice, as both exchange and regular gmail, but the email box I use is the regular gmail setup. So I get push alerts when I get emails via the exchange setup, but when I open my email app, it opens to the regular gmail setup so I get threaded emails and none of the drawbacks of the exchange setup. I'm finally happy with the email setup on the iPhone. Thank you 4.0!!! I highly recommend this setup for gmail users.

Threading works for my gmail-as-exchange setup.
