"Groundbreaking", probably not. Substantial, definitely. However, I agree no one needs to have every new phone that comes out. If I had a 6, I certainly would not get a 6S. The "gotta have the latest" attitude is crass consumerism.
Everybody has a right to buy whatever they want with their hard earned money. However I do agree with you that if a person who already has the last year model like myself should most likely skip this model, and just wait for the iPhone 7 thus giving people who still use a 4s, or even a 5 a better chance to get the 6s without too much of a delay. I do like the new color option this year and the 3d touch. However I don't think those factors are enough for me to blow another chunk of change for another phone so soon.

The unsightly antenna lines seem more pronounced on the Rose Gold than with any other color. Hopefully, they'll be gone by the 7.
The antenna lines never bothered me on my gold 6 plus but I'll say that wether or not they stay on the 7, it will be one helluva beautiful device! I read somewhere that it might have sidewall displays

I think the low sales count has to do with the following:
1. Lack of interest for this years model
2. Not much of an upgrade
3. No 2-year option on Apple site

For me it was 3 & 2. Even now, almost 3 hours later I can still get a Space Grey 64 and have it by 25 September.

Are you sure about #2? I think that this is the biggest leap between X and Xs releases since the iPhone was introduced.

I was going to pre-order on day 1, but was taken by surprise with the announcement of the Apple Upgrade Programme. I'm in the UK so there's no mention of when it'll arrive here, but it sounded interesting. After playing with the calculator for 2 days I came to the conclusion that, although it's tempting, I'm pretty happy with a new iPhone every 2 years (I've even waited longer than that in the past) and I'm not interested in AppleCare+ (I want insurance that covers loss and theft too) so all things considered, buying outright is still the best option for me. YMMV.

All that faffing around has meant that placing my order today instead of yesterday has ended up with me getting an estimated delivery date of 9-16 October. However, I was one of those people that waited over 2 years for a new Mac Pro to arrive (and then 6 months to order, and then 2 months to get here) so waiting 2-3 weeks for my new iPhone after the date of general release is going to be a piece of cake! ;-)

It's why I just closed the ATT order and went straight to the Apple Store app. I'll get it on the 25th through there.

sounds like those that ordered though ATT site got their order in and then ATT had to send batches to Apple to place the order? Just a thought. I have been seeing a lot of people say this year and last year that they placed their orders with ATT very early within minutes from launch and got very late deliveries. When others that went directly to apple (site or app) much later - even 10-20 minutes later and got launch day deliveries. I noticed this last year and I always order from apple directly and end up with launch day delivery every year so far. :) Just my theory. What do you think?

You may be right about the 6S+ and I had to use AT&T this year to keep my 2 year renewel and unlimited data. (Used Apple app for every other IPhone from 3GS - the 6+)

But the 6S 128 gig I ordered 15min after opening has 9/25 delivery date.

Still holding out hope my 128 gig 6S+ gets to me on 9/25

So you are saying that you had to use ATT site to keep your 2 year contract? The unlimited data can be kept if ordering from Apple directly, right?

Well not sure if you can keep your unlimited data either.

Apple had only 2 choices. Buy outright or sign up for NEXT PLAN.

You lose unlimited data by signing up for ATT NEXT.

So to keep both (unlimited data and 2 year renewel) you have to go through ATT)

I've never been less interested in an iPhone as with the 6S.
Opposite for me - this is the first 'S' model that makes me think it's actually worth the upgrade. However after springing over £700 last year for a 128gb 6 - I'll just have to wait another year, oh well!

Congrats to those who pre ordered with a launch day delivery - enjoy!

not true. you can POSITIVELY do ATT Next AND keep your unlimited data.

Well I didn't know that because NEXT works on how many gigs/month that roll over. I have unlimited and it wouldn't let me when I tried apple.

But I know you cannot do the 2 year renewel through apple

I think because I'm a new customer, T-Mobile may have given me priority.

I have the iPhone 5 (which I absolutely love). I easily skipped the 5S and the 6 due to the 6 lagging and lack of RAM. I honestly thought I would be able to wait until the 7, but this S variant is the largest jump in tech in an iPhone since the 4.

I got the iPhone 6 at release. I'm going to try and wait until the 8. Hope it last that long.

That is mobile share plan. Completely irrelevant to Next. Now if you do Next and mobile share combined, you lose your unlimited data, but get a service discount. I was on Next last year with my unlimited data. 2 year contracts are ONLY through AT&T.

I'm so awesomely happy with my 6 plus that I'm not sure I need to upgrade this time.

I usually order stuff first day but this time I might wait and haul myself over to the nearest Apple Store in Portland, Maine to see if the 3D Touch feature is something I might actually use.

I like the camera improvements and processor upgrades. and I want to give my daughter an iPhone, so in the end I probably will get a 6S Plus.

I'm beginning to wonder what else they can add to an iPhone in the future that will be really compelling. It almost seems that we are reaching the point of diminishing returns.

I suppose I should not doubt Apple's capacity to amaze, however.

I want to get the phone for use outside of the U.S. If I order directly from apple.com (US) will the phones be unlocked? And if so, which one should I pick, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint or Verizon?

Just read from Forbes that the iPhone 6s and 6s+ sold out in China in 12 hours. Seems like sales may be doing well.

Could you please post a link to this? The fear of investors was Apple's exposure to China. This news could send the stock soaring on Monday even with a interest rate hike looming.

There's still a lot Apple can do. GPU and CPU along with RAM upgrades are a given. But also improved battery life, bezel-less displays, and for those that care, wireless charging.

Of course, with better GPU/CPU and RAM enhancements, Apple could also continue to improve iOS.

I actually think 5 to 5S was bigger upgrade.

32bit to 64 bit processing
Touch ID that people actually use a lot.
M7 processor for fitness tracking (very noticeable improvement in (lack of) battery drain)

6 to 6S, even though everything under the hood was claimed to be new, as it should, all you really got that you will notice a difference in everyday use is 3D Touch. Majority of people will not be able to tell the speed bump and camera quality increase.

The S line iPhones are almost ALWAYS very easy to obtain, just wait a couple weeks and you can walk in any store and get one

Apple is going to make sure they meet demand
