Several months back, Apple and their suppliers both confirmed that they were building their largest ever pre-order amount of iPhones for their September release. Both saying that this will be the largest amount of phones that will be available when the iPhone goes on pre-sale.

If shipment dates begin to slip, that is a sign of high demand most likely.

Seems like not many people are as interested in this years model compared to previous years. I guess people don't see enough of a reason to upgrade. I don't think it's because more phones are available this time around. (I have no evidence or rational thought to back up this statement)
I would have to say it's because companies now have you pay your phone outright in monthly payments. If the person doesn't like the newer iPhone they can just skip it and finish paying the old one to keep or if already finished then won't spend the extra device monthly fee for something they think is a minor upgrade. The old school contract folks like me are the ones that will most of the time upgrade at the 2 year mark no matter if the device is incredible or just an Ok update like this one since we already are paying a "hidden" device fee no matter if you finish your contract.

It's also a sign that carriers are not getting anything but black phones again. Since a gold phone on AT&T was October 16th at 12:01 PDT.

naive customers are apple's favorite <3. if they wanted to "satisfy their consumer base" they wouldn't be providing 16gb models, nor would they be limiting features that can easily be implemented on older models (see: swipeselection, cydia tweak, now being limited to 3d touch models only). not to mention ram, providing no increase in battery life (the feature people wanted upgraded the most according to polls) 5gb of icloud storage, $300 for a keyboard and a pencil and so on.

this year simply won't have as much interest as last year as there's no new design nor is there an increase in screen size (2 important factors for last year's success), it's just simple hardware upgrades that won't be fully exploited till the iphone 7 comes out
All are somewhat valid points. And yet, there are many families like mine that do the following - I bought the 6s today. I will give my 6 to my wife. She will hand down the 5s to one of the kids and the 5c will be gifted to a friend. We are able to purchase a phone each year this way as we cycle the phones through the entire family and friends ecosystem.

I also know of many people that sell their phones through eBay and get the latest. Given the resale value it's better than say the att Next program.

And then their are the carrier programs (now including Apple) that will keep you upgrading every year.

So regardless of how great or not this upgrade is, I suspect there are multiple incentive programs (I only mention the ones that I am aware of) to make this release very successful.

Ordered 128gb space gray 6s+ at 3:01am from ATT. Ships 10/16-10/223.

Hope that was just ATT being cautious.

Skipping 6 and 6S, ugly and slippery phones.

When reading Ive's interview last year about the design shift from 5 to 6 he said when modeling prototypes that the way they found to offset the size increase feel in the hand and ensure the edges don't cut into your skin was to soften all the contact points to your hand. It was interesting cuz the interviewer kinda called him out on the radical design shift.

After standing in line for 3 days last year for the iPhone 6 plus for the 16gb Version. Me and my hubby decided to pre-order this year since we have the jump program from T-Mobile. Instead of going to apple's website. We called T-Mobile and got our phones ordered we have a confirmation but not a delivery date. T-Moblie would give us a delivery date in a few days. I got the 6s Plus 128gb rose gold color. My hubby got the space gray iPhone 6s plus 128 gb. hopefully it comes on time. But it really is a bummer that they stuck with the 16 GB variant. I will never make the same mistake again.
Lol I see you made sure of that w 128gb. I myself paid for the 64gb. I always buy 32gb since the 3GS days and that for me is enough due to my setup. They definitely are just money grabbing now in 2015 w 16gb. They reallyyyy want you to get at least 64gb and make you pay $100 extra.

Maybe it will return next year.

I do expect preorders to be much lower this time as all the hard core fans have got a 6/6s and they are still stupendous phones right now. But this is how it goes every S release, everyone cries about how it's not big enough of a change but history hows every time that the S's are pheonomal phones and the one you wish you had. 4S/5S and now the the 6S.
I've always been a non "S" user because in my opinion I don't see the need to spend more money on a phone that looks exactly the same as the phone that I still feel that I just recently purchased! I rather wait for the 7 which will undergo a radical redesign as well as improvements over the 6s. For now I'm more interested in the iPad pro this year.

I am pumped that people are not wanting to get the 6s, that means more for me (well, I only need one...)

If I had a 6, I would not upgrade. But I am not one of those iPhone every year people. This is my fourth one out of nine generations of iPhone

I've never been less interested in an iPhone as with the 6S.

And that is why you couldn't wait to post in this thread...
I am very excited, and glad it wasn't as manic as previous pre-orders. I don't think it will sell as much as the last generation, as it isn't that different.

I believe he has that right.

I think you missed the point. No one said he did not have the right to say that. He pointed out how that post seemed untrue (Not interested yet posting at 5:00 am, possibly 2:00 am if he is on the west coast)

Yes, Tamagotchi has the right to say what he likes, but BSben also has the right to comment on that post, and you and I have the right to follow up (as long as we follow Macrumors' policies, since this is their forum)

Who doesn't put a case on these things anyway?
I see more and more people not using a case...

Our 5S phones are doing just fine. Maybe a 6S update for us after the first of the year, but I do not see any compelling reason to go to 6/6S at this point. I got the fingerprint sensor on the 5S. I'm good.

Sales will take a hit this year as the 6 & 6+ are still amazing phones. However production yields have increased especially now they know the Plus is desirable. Last year it was a punt as there was a lot of sceptics but this time around even those that were like no way it is too big are saying well after 12 months the 6 feels fibe so I may give the Plus a shot.

Where as after a year I'm still thinking the 6 is too big and I'm wishing there was a 4" option. Alas it's the first time ever I'm going to have to use an iPhone in a case as I'm sick of how slippery it was. Looking forward to the features and ios9 not looking forward to having the ugly brick of a phone cased in my pocket though

Hong Kong's stock note became "Currently Unavailable" for all colors and sizes within 30-40 minutes of preorders opening.

See I've upgraded every year as I usually sick of the same phone after 12 months, I usually colour hop so it's not identical but really the features alone have always made the S models more enjoyable refinements.

I always thought that was just about the silliest reason not to upgrade, because it "looks" the same as the last one, and not because you don't want new CPU, GPU, stronger phone, faster wireless, better camera, etc. Maybe because I think of smartphones as just pocket computers, and computers keep the same look for a much longer life cycle than a phone. It's like saying well I never bought a (pre 2013) intel Mac Pro because it looked just like my G5!

Do all these people with Gold and Rose Gold iPhones really use them sans case or is there going to be a run on clear cases? Someone earlier mentioned how nice midnight blue case would look with rose gold, but doesn't it cover up the rose gold? How many people rushing to buy the rose gold don't realize their otterbox case will cover the color?

Yes exactly. Always makes me laugh when people say "nothing's changed" when everything has changed apart from the case! I've had 3 MacBook Pro's with the same design now!

I have always been an "S" user because it is replacing a phone from a couple years ago which "looks" very different.

It is not about the look of the phone. I think the 4 and 5 series iPhones look so much better but I am very excited to get my hands on the new 6s.
