People wanting this to be redesigned are missing the point. This phone exists specifically to fulfil a price point. They won't want the development and retooling costs involved with designing and manufacturing a new phone.
Let us dream

Have no idea what people are expecting to gain from the latest iOS on such an old device. Apple set up a trap and you just jumped?
Yes I jumped in Apples trap. I don’t want Apple to set up traps.

btw
the older you get the shorter seems the time span of four years which is the age of the 5s

If it looks like the iPhone 5 again, then that design won’t be dead until 2020. That’s insane!

I am not sure why people talk so much about design? We will reach to a point where every phone will look the same (Bezel free) except for the back which will have the logo - then what? Two screens? As for specs, I am happy with the iPhone 6S Plus. All I want is 18hrs of battery life - the other 6hrs sleeping lol

Back to the topic, iPhone SE 3 in 2020 will be bezel free.

I wouldn't be 100% confident for an SE based on the X design. I have used Sharp Aquos Crystal and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge only to realize I don't like edge-to-edge. Bad ergonomics.

What functional benefits do bezel-less or taller displays have? It's a COSMETIC GIMMICK like curved displays and LG V-series' second display are! Buyers are falling for Samsung's display trap that is curved like on their TVs and smartphones.

Oh wow! I can see more info in portrait. I can see the entire photo of the diplodocus on this page without the need to gently swipe up to scroll down! So beneficial! LOL!

There is nothing beneficial from a taller display no different than a curved one or an LG second display. It makes reachability more useful. That's all. After 2.5 years, users realize what a gimmick a curved display is. The only thing the SE3 might benefit from having the X design is gaining Face ID.

Right now, the X design is the buzz but people will eventually grow tired of it like they did to James Cameron's Titanic and Avatar. It's like checking a movie's high IMDb score before it goes down. I could eventually live with an SE based on the X but the novelty will wear off like playing the Nintendo Wii after a month.

It's like loving the iPhone 6 Plus at first before growing wary of it and its awkward size. Looks fade on people. I don't find Jessica Alba attractive at all because she lacks talent. I came to realize the only iOS devices that will offer a metal back are iPads! An iOS device that doesn't change the design much.

I would be 100% content if Apple doesn't change the design and just update the SE specs every two years like they do to their iPad minis and MacBooks. Just give gesture controls via software update, and I'm good.

When they first released the SE it was with the processor and camera from the just released iPhone 6S. I think they’ll do the same this year with the iPhone 8 processor and camera. Gives it that wow factor, takes away from the budget stigma, and will last two years before the next update

I remember everyone being blown away when those specs were revealed. Almost the same internals as a 6S? I had quite a few friends who went out and bought an SE because of that. Internet reviews were quite favorable, and still are.

I suspect an SE/2 will have the A11. The SE primarily serves as an inventory pusher for Apple. Excess inventory, like the A9 from the 6S models, went into SE and Apple could be planning to use excess A11 (come spring time) from the 8 models. Same goes for camera models, etc.

I also think that Apple will give the SE/2 a body more like the 6/6S/7. That would look pretty svelt, especially at a 4” size.

Ive had to learn fast how to get over the small form factor mindset for my small hands, after needing to use insurance to fix my cracked screen, so now I have the 6S, but ill 100% never be able to easily use the plus size, so Id love to see another SE, but possible be the size either between the 2 of the exact size, but have the phone itself as thick as the 5SE, so that it could maybe keep the headphone jack and get a better camera or better yet portrait mode for it also. FYI, the reason why the 6S, is even a viable size for my hands is because I have a "handle" attached to my case, aka why something in betwee the 2 woud be ideal. The thickness only makes it easier for my use, so I couldn't care less if its thick as long as its not a flip phone or a side kick, lol

Common sense. How many years have SE been on the market so far? How many people do you know that actually talk about it or own it compared to how many own 6/7/8? I could tell you right away that profit margin for resellers on SE is even worse than on regular iPhone. It's iPod like.
Your "common sense" may differ from other peoples "common sense".
Common sense is not a measurable factor, and in your comment amounts to nothing more than an "anecdotal experience", which is meaningless.
They have tried with 5c and then they tried with SE, it's not working. To me SE is the best phone they have cause it's still a phone first everything else second and it doesn't cost arm and a leg AND it has that timeless design that Apple abandoned within just two generation to try to blend in with Androids.
You have nothing to back up the above.

Still, I see no reason the SE shouldn't get the latest internals. They did it last year.

And if I remember correctly, people were predicting that the SE would originally get the A8 chip. So maybe they're wrong this time too.
I assume if they go with an A10 rather than an A11 it will be cost/ economy of scale related, or maybe even a result of limited A11 capacity that’s currently being taken up by the iPhones 8 and X. They’re putting the A10 and A10X in a huge number of devices, similar to the A5 - the A10 is in the iPhone 7 series, rumoured to be in the iMac pro, adding in the SE, maybe the ‘2018 ipad’ and/or ‘iPad mini 5’ and perhaps a 7th gen iPod touch would mean they can bulk order the chips as they’re already likely reducing in price anyway due to being ‘older tech’. The more devices they use the chip in, the thinner the cost of its design is spread and the higher the margins they begin to make on the devices. Having only 4 cores it’s likely inherently cheaper to make than the A11 with 6, even leaving aside the smaller process and all.

That’s an oversimplification. For one, consumers don’t invest in cars with the same cadence as a phone or computer, nor is automobile obsolescence so rapid. And even car designs evolve over time whereas the current iMac design has not. I don’t dislike it but it doesn’t exactly turn any heads the way it did 5 years ago.

As for the inside, I would like to see Apple return to modular hardware or at least give their computers a decent heatsink that will not destroy the chipsets in a couple years’ time, instead of pulling impossible stunts like the iMac Pro. And overhaul the MacOS in more meaningful ways than shoehorning Siri.

Let’s face it, since Jobs’ passing its been a disaster for the Mac and maintaining (re)design cycles.
invest is wrongly used... invest is to put money into sth. that multiplies the money... an iPhone, a car will never be an investment (the value is depreciated out of the box)... in large, you are right... I just say that, we over emphasise on design (and pay too much for it) and forget about the basic utility and functionality of the product (we start not to see the forest for the trees)... in our case, the hardware without software is just a brick... the problem with computers nowadays, with this type of architecture, have nowhere to evolve... we reached a threshold... people want new things every year and that's the reason design is a gimmick used to sell... we will see what future withholds... voice activated devices are nowhere to go unless AI is becoming the norm... in the fast moving world you don't have time for Siri's errors or basic tasks that it does... we have to forget about turning heads... a Mac, an iPhone doesn't have to be the big gold neckless, an expression of a poor person trying to impress... a Mac and iPhone is about one thing only: SOFTWARE = functionality, usability, UI, UX... put the best hardware in the market, make a nice case and stop fulling me with face ID to open my phone at $999... and coming back to the topic, Steve Jobs, again, was right... an iPhone (portability, ease of access, one hand access in a split second in a tube, quick pictures when you move, split seconds to e-mail, music, web, maps and so on) should have the screen no more than 4" (a compromise - from 3.5")... for home, office, library, coffee shop etc buy a tablet or a laptop or a desktop... I want to keep my phone and operate it with ONE hand...

If the current SE 2 rumors are remotely true, and if there is someone from Apple monitoring these forums, please forward the MacRumors poster's hardware/software requests to those that have input in to the newest design iteration.

He does not need anything to back himself up. We are not in a court. We are on a rumor forum where people give their opinions.

I got an SE on launch day because I want a small phone with flagship specs, when Apple didn't update it in 2017 I started feel like 2016 was a fluke, and that Apple sees people that enjoy using a phone with one hand as the sort of people that will settle for mid-range specs. I recently switched to an Xperia XZ1 Compact which is a flagship Android phone about halfway in-between the size of iPhone SE and iPhone 6/6S/7/8. It manages to fit a 4.6" screen in there, as it has smaller bezels than a iPhone SE (though not as small as the bezelless phones of today). I recommend it to anyone that wants a small flagship phone, at this point I think its the only option in the market. (It's also waterproof and has a headphone jack)

Yeah. I hope this rumor is wrong because it's too soon. We need the rest of the iPhone lineup to transition to the bezeless design before the SE gets its a major redesign.

Can anyone answer why bezeless is so great? Is there a large contingent of iPhone fans with zero concern about being able to use a case w/o running into issues with off-screen swipes and/or zero concern over potential issues with holding the phone securely w/o blocking some of the screen and/or causing inadvertent screen presses?

What am I missing about a "no bezel" design that's so coveted and considered the ultimate? I'm just not getting it.

Would love love love an iPhone SE 2 that is just the same form factor but upgraded internals. I really hope they don't ruin it.

I like the bezels. I like the home button. I like the headphone jack socket. I like the smaller size (than the other iPhones now available). I like the rectangular display with square corners. I like the flat edges of the device.

The fact it's the cheapest iPhone is a bonus. I would have loved a 128GB option when I bought my 64GB SE so if there was a 128GB SE 2 with upgraded cameras, CPU etc and for the same/similar price it'd be an easy decision for me, and I'd still have change after buying both of them from the amount many are happily paying for iPhones I wouldn't swap my SE for...

Fingers crossed.

I have bought 2 SE's. The first I sold because the initial run had issues with bluetooth calling over in-car systems that led to terrible audio quality. When Apple revised the SE (mostly memory changes IIRC) I suspected that the bluetooth issues had been addressed and they had. My SE vied for 1st place with my 6S but finally won out. So now my son will get the 6S and when a new SE comes out, I will probably be in line to buy one assuming very similar size and form factors going forward.

Current SE owner. If they keep the form-factor the same, including headphone jack, this will be my next phone. If they make it bigger and/or remove the headphone jack, I'll probably get an Xperia.

Only the shallowest most irrelevant of people think some person's level of "lameness" is in any way factored by what year their pocket phone was designed in.

I guarantee you the owners and users of such handsets, do not care.
yeah. agree. probably someone who’s parents buy their phones for them posting.
