12 pages of posts (and in such a short time). I just checked in and I have no interest in reading 12 pages worth of posts, so maybe there was an off-topic debate about Trump that got people sidetracked for 8+ pages, but if not, I think this shows that there's a ton of interest in a smaller iPhone.
And by "smaller", I really mean "perfectly sized for one-handed usage". I remember back in the day of owning a Motorola StarTac. Back then, phones got smaller and smaller. And the smallest ones were the most expensive ones. Granted, you just used them for phone calls. So I get that app usage makes larger screens more desirable. Still, smaller devices will always have the advantage of being more comfortably pocketable and easier to use one-handed.
Personally, I just "upgraded" from an iPhone 6s to an iPhone SE. Same functionality/guts but in a smaller device. I never felt "great" about my upgrade from my iPhone 5 to my iPhone 6. The larger screen was nice, and the rounded-edges made it feel more comfortable to hold naked (though, like many others, I was too worried about keeping it naked because it was so slippery, so I got a case which bulked it up and ruined that great out-of-the-box feeling). But while the upgraded features were nice, it was impossible to comfortably reach all corners of the screen. And the reachability functionality felt like a band-aid.
I lived with the 6. And even upgraded to the 6s. But by then the inexpensive (albeit contract-locked) upgrades from AT&T were gone, and I couldn't justify paying $600+ (or whatever it was) to move up to the 7, which just felt like another minor upgrade. Same for the 8. The X tempted me, but it bumped the device size up more, and I realized that what I really wanted was a device *smaller* in size...more like the 5.
So while I debated spending $1200 on an X w/AppleCare I spotted a post on a deal forum about getting an AT&T prepaid iPhone SE for $150. Supposedly, I could plug in my regular post-paid AT&T SIM and roll. So for $150, I figured "why not give this a shot and see if I really could be happy moving back down to a smaller-screened device."
I've been using it now for about 2 weeks. The smaller screen has taken some getting used to...primarily some "tappable things" can be harder to tap. But I think I'm pretty content. If Apple could deliver an X-style device (nearly edge-to-edge screen) in this size, I'd be pretty happy.
