Except for the fact that the SE cheapskates would never buy a phone at the price that the no bezel SE would cost to make.

A Samsung galaxy s8 with a 5.8" screen retails around $500. Apple couldn't get a bezel less 5-5.5" screen in a phone around $400? Even using yesterday's internals, like they do with the budget phones?

Oh come now. Do us the courtesy of not just writing us all off as "cheap skates". You don't know anything about us.

My SE in a case is about the same size as my 6s.

Simplified lineup: iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone 9 (with faceID), iPhone X.

It will not be called the iPhone 9. They can’t just keep upping the number anymore, because how will that look next year when they’re the iphone 10 and the iphone x? I think they’ll just call it iPhone or iPhone with Face ID

Funny, because I paid full new flagship iphone price for a couple new iphones before the SE. They were in the right form factor though.

I'm sorry that you have to define yourself via the value of the things you own. Is there no other personal achievement or quality that you could use instead?

My mother gave up on waiting for an updated SE and finally accepted the iPhone 6 I've been trying to give her for the past year and a half.

She loved the small size but didn't want to buy an old design brand new. Turns out she ended up loving the form factor of the 6.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple kills the SE; one less screen size to support.

Hahaha remember that MobileFun/Olixar "leak"? Yeah....

Actually I do. And they also themselves claimed no SE update would be seen today. So they put a stop to any new SE this year themselves changing their predictions, just like how Ming changes his mind all the time..

I won’t be surprised if the SE is dead, long live the small phone. You’d best get used to the 7 size then if you want a ‘small’ phone.

To me the design looks a bit outdated. They should at least look like iPhone 6/7/8.

Why do people care about this? This must always have a "new design" fetish. The design works, is solid for its purposes, and proven. If it ain't broke don't completely redesign it from the ground up.

The only reason it would need any redesign is to accommodate different internals arrangement, which it really shouldn't need. There's plenty of room for update components.

Well, I think part of the modernization would be taking advantage of putting a bigger and better screen in a similar sized phone. Once you do that, you're basically redesigning it from the ground up anyway.

I do get the fact that you think the SE an outmoded design.

What I don't get is the bizarre desire to denigrate the phone preferences of others, and to presume to know why they made these choices in the first place.

Agreed.

And several on this thread alone have explained why this form factor in this phone is a string preference of ours.

Your reply doesn't make much sense when you read my post.

However, to play along: I don't use a case. So… your point?

Well said.

Bravo.

If it actually sold like crazy, Apple would be updating it every 6-12 months and showing it off every September.

The fact that it's a 2.5 year old phone tells you otherwise.

They don't need to update a low entry phone as often as a high end phone. Customers demand different things and have different upgrade cycles.

Changing something merely because it doesn't look new is a stupid reason. It says novelty is more important than usefulness. Making changes because a more effective or useful way to do something has been found, is good. It's progress and refinement. But, "Malibu Stacy has a new hat!" is a way to sell products, not a way to improve products.

Unless one of your primary concerns is being seen carrying around the latest trendy thing (I do recall complaints when the 4S and 5S came out, of sad people actually saying, "but how will everybody know I have the new one?"). I've never really cared about that. People who meet me will like (or not like) me because what I say and do, not what gizmo I carry around.

The biggest differences in looks (visible external design) between the 5/SE and the 6/7/8, aside from the increased height and width necessitated by the larger screen, are that the 6/7/8 replaced the metal band around the edge with smoothly rounded sides (making them a bit harder to hold onto securely without a case) and the 6/7/8 got thinner (and I've never even once heard anyone say, "you know, I really like my 5 and/or SE but I wish it was thinner").

The 6 is a half inch taller than the SE. It’s not that much bigger.

If there is no follow on to the SE, what can you use. There aren’t a lot of 4” phones.

I feel the same way.

I speculated in another thread that the SE is going to go the way of the Mac Mini…

A much loved design, useful, decently priced and loved by a sizeable proportion of users.

Left to wither and die on the vine.

Sometimes I do wonder about Apple's odd decisions.

I am happy then that I got both of them (add the MB AIR to the mix) and pray they will last me as long as they possibly can

unless ....

... Apple is going to launch something better

september will tell

The $329 iPad is updated every year and it's less expensive than iPhone SE. Is the iPad upgrade cycle more frequent than iPhone? It comes down to demand.

iPhone represents 2/3 of revenue for Apple. If there was demand, Apple would be presenting a new SE on stage each September.

I wonder if the 6s will stay in market? I expected them to discontinue it last year, but it’s still selling, maybe it will take the SE price point?

6s, 7, 8, 6.1” LCD, X second gen

would maintain their SE, 6s, 7, 8, X price ranges

The A9 is still very capable, fast, and runs even better on iOS 12

If they got the screen to body ratio down.... NO NOTCH!!! It would be really nice. The 4S is still one of my favorite designs.

From Dieter Rams, the best industrial designer ever:

Good design is long-lasting
It avoids being fashionable and therefore never appears antiquated. Unlike fashionable design, it lasts many years – even in today’s throwaway society.

The 5/5S/SE form factor epitomises this, I think (as well as being a tribute to Rams in many ways ie it’s reminiscent of a 70s Braun product).
