iPhone 8 is 4th best selling smartphone in 2019.

Apple knows that and this form factor with A13 and improved battery is going to sell like hot cakes whether you like it or not.....

If we are going by sales numbers and popularity charts, Apple should drop about half the Mac lineup and shouldn’t be launching the Mac Pro at all.

“Top/popularity charts” aren’t the argument slam dunk you may think you just made

I wonder why is it so difficult to understand that some of us prefer a non-tablet sized iPhone, no matter the price.

I mean... what’s next? Ask Apple to remove the Cycle app because you are not a woman?

Being told that, I already assumed that the SE was the last non huge phone from Apple.
I just hope mine lasts forever.
The only thing I regret is having updated it to iOS 13. God, what a mess.

I think Apple will eventually make a 4,7" bezel-less phone which will be similar in size to the original SE but not yet in 2020. Perhaps 2021. Maybe September 2020? But then it won't be a budget device priced only at 399.

Even back in 2015, the preference was:

1. 5.3"
2. 5.0"
3. 5.5"

4.7" may happen when Apple Glasses becomes mainstream and people no longer rely on the smartphone display. We already see that starting to happen with 5.4" in 2020.

So do all the other iPhones they update annually...because it makes sense to do that.

It doesn't make sense to update the SE annually because it's a niche product. Mac Mini, same thing. No one said they will never update it, but all you guys clamoring for updates based on popularity and strong demand are demonstrably wrong.

There is some demand, but the market has spoken on what kind of phones they want...large screens. Hence, practically every phone out has a large screen and those are the ones updated annually.

One reason it's a niche product is that they wait so long to update it. If it had the same cameras as the high end phones it probably would be less niche. A lot of people want a phone that can be used with one hand, and don't watch videos and movies on their phones because they have TVs and computers

lol
What are you basing any of that on?

It sounds like you're literally just pulling dates and ideas out of your butt..
:):p

I'm not basing that on anything. I'm hoping. Because I like smaller phones too. I refuse to buy anything larger than 4,7". But I'm also a realist and I know people prefer larger screens nowadays.

iPhone SE had the same camera as the high end iPhone 6s.

Apple already conducted their experiment - the SE was a relative flop. The SE captured only 0.3% of market share after the first month, compared to 1% for iPhone 5c.

iPhone SE is niche because most people don't want a small display.

A flop?

Tim Cook is speaking with analysts who will determine Apple's stock price after the earnings call.

Every new product has "overwhelming demand" as long as you don't ask Cook to reveal the numbers. He is presenting legally truthful statements.

If SE demand is so high, then why didn't Apple refresh the SE with an A10 or A11? Why is the SE2 a 4.7" device?

It doesn’t need an immediate update. They work perfectly with the latest iOS so there’s no rush.
I’ll keep mine until I break it and hope for a small replacement. If one doesn’t come I’ll probably goto an iPod and flip phone.

I'm not yet sure it is, are you?
We are working off rumors here..

Let's circle back on this when we see what this new device actually is
(we've been hearing "SE2" for over a year now - still haven't seen one)

It's not about you alone. It's about the mythical large group buyers who want an updated 4" device.

Yes I know. I’d like a 4” update in the future too when this one dies.
but I was answering why it didn’t get a chip upgrade. My answer is it works fine with the old chip and Apple agree that’s why it supports ios13 and other phones don’t.

Given the two most accurate Apple analysts in the world and Nikkei (likely with sources from JDI and Sharp) are predicting 4.7", I'm pretty sure.

Should be interesting
Are you really opposed to a 4,7" SE? I think that size is the perfect balance between very small and outrageously big. A sweet spot, if you will. I personally am getting this day 1 if it's all it's rumored to be. Might even pre-order.

I'm not "opposed to it" - It simply holds no interest to me (at all).

I had a 6 (sold it and went back to 5s) and briefly a 6s (sold it and went to SE).

I totally hated interacting with them and was overjoyed with the release of the SE.
Haven't batted an eye at a single other iPhone since.

The SE physical size is just SUPERB for how I use an iPhone.

There's nothing they can do inside the iPhone 8 form factor to even remotely interest me. Once you're of the size that's unattractive to me, I may as well deal with an X/XS sized device at that point (no thanks on that either).

Right now I will simply ride my SE as long as I can, even if it means running out of date iOS versions.
(I have a spare new one in a box from a couple months ago)

For me I couldn’t care less what size the screen is. I just would never again want a phone bigger in physical size that the SE.
The XS was awful for my needs. If I need to do something requiring a screen I have a MacBook Pro and a very nice desktop monitor for a Mac mini.

I’d be even happier with a smaller phone. If they made a bezel less 4” I’d be very happy.

The main appeal to me for an iPhone is the texting, a qwerty keyboard is very favourable otherwise I’d be just fine with a basic phone. The Nokia 800 tough for instance would suit me fine with an iPod touch for podcasts. But going back to t9 texting isn’t ideal.
After going back to a SE I even dropped my data plan down to 1gb as I simply don’t need or want to use it. I barely use 500mb a month.

Funny you say that - I did the same.
The savings for using an SE and "how" I use that SE are INSANE compared to some people around here buying new flagship iPhones every year and having the expensive service plans that likely go with them.

To each our own - but I have no desire to spend all my life (and lots of money) on my iPhone.
It's a tool I use when it's needed - that's it.

yep, i got myself a new laptop instead and take that when I need it, and if I cannot be bothered to get my laptop or goto my office for my desktop then I can probably do just fine without doing it. the only reason im on here is i keep checking for news of the new 13" MBP as i hate the 2019 keyboard so i've gone back to an older one until the new keyboards are released.

I haven't had mobile data turned on for safari or anything for months and it's just fine. I sometimes do some seminars at university and out of 250 people 249 are just lost in their phones...... i prefer to live my life in real.. my kids won't even get a phone until they are 18, and on that note I have another SE that lives at home instead of a landline phone. $10 a month and its perfect for if the kids are ever home alone.
