“The beloved compact form factor” of the SE is why I have it
Do you think more people prefer the form factor of the 4" iPhone or the 4.7" iPhone? Use critical thinking and be honest.

Hint:

The 4.7" & 5.5" sizes existed at the time they released the SE to begin with also.
All products Apple releases need not (and should not) appeal to all users, nor even the majority of users (see the Mac Pro among many examples).

In any case, I enjoy the 4" physical size (it's not about the screen size - this is the key thing people miss)

I had hoped for a physically smaller than 4.7" class device - perhaps one where the screen got larger due to bezel reduction. I have no interest in and will not purchase a re-hashed iPhone 8 physically sized device.

My great hope is that there are some inaccuracies and/or details the rumor leaks aren't getting perfectly right (which is plausible - happens all the time)

Interesting to see the demographics profile of iPhone SE launch buyers.

Compared to all iPhone buyers, they're significantly less likely to have a bachelor's degree. They're also significantly likely to have high school or "less than high school" education.

Compared to iPhone 6s buyers, SE launch buyers are less likely to be previous iPhone owners. And are less likely to have made a phone purchase in the past 24 months.

Fits in perfectly the idea that SE is targated and attracts price sensitive consumers.

Yeah, they used last gen design as well.

I'm willing to bet 6s sales would've fallen off drastically if Apple made the iPhone 6 with 6s internals, minus 3D touch and the better front camera.

"Beloved design" might have more to do with the fact that it isn't a modern design, more of a classic look.

Compared to the X/11 series, the 8 is a classic look considering it stuck around for 4 years. 6, 6s, 7, and 8.

See the first paragraph at the link above.

The 7 & 8 form factor is also beloved. Most people forgot about the 5s design already. With the SE2, Apple plans to also target those who still have 6, 6s, 7 and 8 and I'm willing to bet 90% of these people don't want a smaller device than what they currently have.

So do all the other iPhones they update annually...because it makes sense to do that.

It doesn't make sense to update the SE annually because it's a niche product. Mac Mini, same thing. No one said they will never update it, but all you guys clamoring for updates based on popularity and strong demand are demonstrably wrong.

There is some demand, but the market has spoken on what kind of phones they want...large screens. Hence, practically every phone out has a large screen and those are the ones updated annually.
they update the other phones to keep the sheep keen and to be seen as a leading edge company..

perhaps the SE was a solid design, that still does everything the intended market requires, and as the r&d was all done it continued to be a good seller and profit maker for apple at a reasonable price point for consumers?? i know costco sold hundreds of thousands of them this summer. im sure they felt it was a good seller as it sold out in less than a week, unlike the big screen replacements that sit to this day.

and once again you say market demands a large screen, and i say again prove to me that it simply isn't apple et al forcing large screens to justify insane prices to maximize their profits. in a world with no choice they can be monopolistic.
do you really think an iPhone is worth anywhere near $2000 like some sell for? or do you think apple have simply done a good job of forcing the consumers into a market with little freedom of choice to screw them out of as much money as they can? is the XS really worth 4x more than a 6 when it really does nothing remarkably different..

They update their other phones because they make a hell of a lot of money selling them, as in $165B in iPhone revenue in 12 months.

If they could do that by selling the SE, they would do that...but they did it by selling larger screen phones because people wanted them and would buy them.

The iPhone is worth a lot more than $2,000. Warren Buffett famously said he'd rather have the iPad than his private jet. It can do so much more.

I feel sorry for you if you really believe something like the iPhone is overpriced. For what it is, it's an exceptional value. Furthermore, you're paying for a lot more than just the hardware.

try reading what i said. i said its to make money. which is nothing to do with giving what consumers want.

and as for feeling sorry for me, i feel sorry about deluded people who think apple is doing them a favour with their insane mark ups.. do you thank them when they also charge you 10x the going rate to add ram to make your laptop usable?

the point isn't the price, the point is the increase in price for no real changes. the latest phone does nothing that really can't be done on one from 5 years ago. the changes are minimal.
the price isn't.

i don't see the value because the SE i paid $200 from costco for does everything exactly the same as the $1700 XS did. same software, same apps, same functionality. so that negates your argument of not just paying for the hardware.

if you are so empty in life that a phone is so important to you then try putting it down for a day. its a tool, nothing more.

Giving consumers what they want is all consumer product companies strive to do. Why? More sales. People wanted bigger screens, confirmed by the sales increases. Remember that iPhone 6 was the biggest selling iPhone ever and was the largest jump in unit sales ever by Apple.

No one cares if an SE does that same things an XS does "for you." The XS is better in many, many measurable ways than the SE...namely the larger/better screen, faster, cameras on a different planet, etc.

Of course it's a tool...and I want the best tool. You don't want the SE because you like it more or it does more....you want it because it's cheaper. That's fine, but not all of us care about saving a few bucks.

You have it all figured out!
Are you in on their board meetings or something?

if you don’t care then stop following these topics. We do. Go buy the best tool for you and be happy

You are being deliberately obtuse.
I had an Xs. So how did I buy the se to save a few bucks? I gave the XS away so I actually spent more to get a new SE.

I bought the se because it is a better phone for me. And there’s your problem. You try and push your opinion on everyone.

try and accept there are those of us who are different with different needs.
My se lasts longer than my XS. The screen is perfect for what I do on it, I don’t miss the Xs at all. My wife has one and I use it occasionally if I am out with her and dont have my phone and still don’t like it.

I have a real camera and rarely take pictures beyond maybe snapping something to remind me when I get home.

we get the SE isnt for you. Stop spamming these topics complaining about it and move on. If you don’t want a small phone or a cheaper phone good for you. No one is forcing you to buy it.
I just want a small basic phone that does 3-4 daily tasks well. I don’t feel so inadequate I need to show the world I have the latest fashion or tech

I wouldn’t trade my SE for a brand new 11 pro for free. So that completely shuts down your argument.
Honestly I think you’re here simply to say how special you are and try and look down on us lowly poor people who can only just afford an SE and we can only dream to be rich like you and get what we really want. Wrong!!!

Some people really have a hard time grasping that the SE is a beloved device for many of us.

It's like it somehow threatens them if we don't all want the largest, most expensive, newest iPhone Apple makes all the time.

I know that many people love the SE. But how many is many? I'm just saying I'd bet it's just a vocal minority.

I believe the SE was made to appease 5s lovers and now SE2 will be made to appeal to 6, 7 and 8 lovers. It makes sense.

Love my SE, I tried out the iPhone X and after two days I switched back to the SE. Years ago, I tried the iPhone 6 after I had the 5, hated it, buying the SE was the best choice.

I will pass on an iPhone 8SE, that's big time BS, however I would love an iPhone XSE (small sized X) and still would like an SE2 (same as SE, new internals)...

There are no 6,7,8 lovers. If you go up that size then you can get an X. Or any other new phone. THEY ALL ARE THE SAME DAMN SIZE.

There is clearly a giant group of users ho want small phones and Apple ignores them because Apple wants to sell its crappy Arcade subscription....

How are they the same size? The X has a 5.8" screen and 8 has a 4,7"...... HUGE difference. I don't mind the bezels.

Also, I am a 8 form factor lover. See them every day in the wild, SE - almost never.

Your "beliefs" aren't necessarily "facts" - just a thought
(same applies to all of our opinions btw)
True..... but the fact that Apple makes 4,7" SE2 makes my theory more believable, does it not?

The statement you made is so disingenuous it's nuts. The only similarities between the iPhone 4 and any modern LCD iPhone (besides plus models) is the PPI. Not the resolution, contrast, color profile (P3), brightness, dim level, or power efficiency. If the market decided that it wasn't enough, they wouldn't sell as many units as they do.

if I see pixels, in this 2019 day and age, it’s garbage.

The +plus iPhone was a step forward in display.

Modern iPhone is two steps backward: burnin+pixels

It's the same size because he said so. ;)

The iPhone X is ~20% larger in volume than iPhone 6s. And the 6s is ~20% larger in volume than SE.

But never mind that.

Some posters above try to claim a $2,000 iPhone exists and then compares it with a clearance priced iPhone SE.

They don't "make 4'7" SE2" to our knowledge yet.
Folks - these are rumors..

Until they release something, we can't really go much deeper here.

This isn't about you. The market decides what sells well and the SE didn't sell well enough to care about.

$2000 is easily achieved here, never mind taxes...

and my first SE when they originally came out was even less as i got a free upgrade on my plan as they existed back then. and no my plan didn't go up. went down in fact.

and yes we can compare them. they run the same software and do the same job. and for many the SE does it better.

name one essential function the new phones do that the SE I just bought cannot...

I hope you guys are right about the small size. If not on this phone, than on a future one.
I’d kill for an iPhone Mini with the camera quality of the 11 Pro Max. That’ll never happen, but just a Mini might. I’m ready to be rid of this giant toaster in my pocket, as much as I love the screen size.

A lot of people talk about how great the consumption of media is on a larger phone, but as a photographer I'm looking at the phone as a tool. The curves and weight of the thing matter, balance and size matter - maybe i'm trying to fit it thru a fence to get a shot, maybe I need to take a photo and not draw attention to that fact for whatever reason. Don't get me started on biometrics -they're a disaster and no one serious about their security would rely on that feature.

so why are you here then? and they only just stopped selling them and appear to be soon releasing a new one.. so clearly they do care..

you make it about me as you keep saying im wrong, and others like me are wrong.. when you're the one who is not only wrong in your assumptions, but you're sad enough to spend your time on topics that in your own words are not worth caring about.

I really don't understand why the SE fans on here are expecting for so much towards a $399 phone. You get what you pay for, don't expect anything close to the 11 and 11 Pro line up.
Same chipset, same display as the 11 (just in a different aspect/size), same OS, same Apple Pay, same Apple Music, same apps, same body materials (11), likely the same (main) camera, same wireless charging, same CarPlay - how are you defining 'close' because I don't see a lot that you're giving up here. Some (probably to most people extraneous) camera stuff and a different design (which is down to personal preference).

iPhone 8 is 4th best selling smartphone in 2019.

Apple knows that and this form factor with A13 and improved battery is going to sell like hot cakes whether you like it or not.....
