If they go the Touch ID route (as it seems to be cheaper than Face ID based on iPads) I suspect they will still use the same LCD panel from the XR and 11 with a notch, with the notch still containing the speaker and front camera but removing the other Face ID components. Time will tell.
Good point. Hadn’t thought of that.

Such a useless device. Honestly, it only exists to offer an iPhone at a lower price point without having to shift the pricing structure of the other devices.

Useless to whom? It was the #2 selling smartphone of 2020 across all brands, selling over 21 million units.

This garbage clickbait graphic should be taken down immediately. What an embarrassment to see Macrumors actually post this.

This is not what the SE 3 will look like, nor is it even what the report suggests it will look.

Sha-weet.

probably the phone I get. gotta be cheap tho. part of a Cricket promo or something.

Would love to hear rumours about an iPhone SE Mini, i.e. the size of the iPhone 4 but full (LCD) screen w/o home button.
Pretty please Apple?

I was hoping for the same physical size with home button and bezels as the iPhone 6-8 :(

My dream iPhone would be something with brand-new internals and sandwiched into the iPhone 4s form factor. Yes, it's tiny compared to today's phones, but it was the last phone they released that was designed to work effortlessly with one hand... which is what I prefer. Also, when you turned it sideways to text, it was straight butter.

This is, in fact, the only reason the iPhone SE exists.

I disagree, sorta. Many people don’t NEED fancy camera systems that have all kinds of crazy AI and specs, Night Mode, etc. Not everyone needs the latest and greatest, but you get it in the SE’s. It’s going to have the A15 chip. That’s the same power that’s included in the latest iPhones! These SE’s beat out every Android phone in performance on the market. It doesn’t matter that they’re low cost, it’s that they’re so efficient IMO.

There are a lot of people who don't like OLED. Many of them because of issued with the PWM strobing from OLEDs. the LCD screens on the XR and SE2 are very good so you don't lose much.
I understand OLED flickering can be annoying for some. But LCD is a thing of the past and you can be sure that the SE 3 won’t get a 1080p display (i.e iPhone 7+ or 8+)

It will be fuzzy once you get used to a higher density display. I can see the pixelation on Xr, so yeah it’s either PWM or fuzzy text.

If you like small phones, the 13 mini is literally the perfect phone, as it finally gives a mini phone with good battery life with flagship specs. The 2020 SE is just not a good phone (battery life) other than the launch price.
I've had my 2020 iPhone SE for 16 months. I don't see a huge problem with battery life. They can all use more efficient displays, though.

I thought this too, but I have a 12 Mini as my daily driver (476PPI), but when I use my SE2 occasionally it does not look fuzzy or low res in comparison at all (326PPI). Apple definitely make the best LCD panels on the market.

There were quite a few punch-hole rumors for repeatedly corrected timeframes and they were in the same timely fashion as were the iPad mini/Air rumors which were the correct ones, so I believe this one is actually correct this time minus the absolute full-screen camera-less aspect.

The following things are to consider:
- LCD screens are actively used even with newer models (most iPads)
- the 11 and SE still offer LCD and are in the lineup. They are the most likely source for the frame
- the XR/11 frame is the most likely candidate as it offers enough space for a battery which has to tackle 5G (will need it as it‘s unlikely that it will receive the A15, even in Spring 2022)
- low-quality LCD supplier BOE is getting more orders from Apple, this is where they can prove that they improved
- Apple is starting to streamline its production of current Touch ID buttons which however is currently applied in mid-range devices
- they are currently losing market share in the low-budget market which is emphasizing on full-screen aspects

removing touchID is like removing the remote of your TV. Now you control it with hand gestures from the comfort of your chair.

function > form

I buy it to use it, not to look at it
