Would they really go all-screen with an SE first? Technological merits of Face ID over Touch ID notwithstanding, an all-screen phone would immediately look well advanced beyond the notched phones. Would Apple really let the budget model outshine the flagships?
I have NO idea why people with renders suddenly make the notch disappear just because Face ID is not there. It is so weird.

The things says XR design. The XR has a notch. So will this.

How is the case an impediment? Just like with the ring/silent switch, the case can feature a cutout for the power button.
Most phone cases I’ve seen have cutouts for ring/silent, but not the power or volume buttons. Agreed this could be changed, but I wonder if the scanner would work as reliably if the case would prevent a users finger from fully reaching the button when in a case.

I am one of the folks who are bothered by PWM in Apple's OLED screens so this is an interesting rumor.

If it comes out with a better camera system than the 11, then it would be a probable instant buy for me.
Good for you! I still don’t know if I’m PMW sensitive, I won’t know until I try an OLED iPhone (probably this Christmas)

I think I'm commenting just to note that this is the first time I've noticed "to be" used as a split infinitive within a headline.
That's fine. Modern usages has abandoned the 19th century prescription against split infinitives. It would have read as clunky to say "and to Be Apple's Last LCD Smartphone" Also, headlines sometimes use an artificially compacted grammar to fit the title within space constraints.

Apple's third-generation iPhone SE will feature an iPhone XR-like design with Touch ID and be the company's last iPhone with an LCD display, according to Chinese site MyDrivers.

A machine translation of the report explains that the design of the third-generation iPhone SE is based on the iPhone XR, and will feature a Touch ID fingerprint scanner built into the side button, as well as an LCD display, the A15 Bionic chip, and 5G connectivity. The report noted that the device is expected to be Apple's final iPhone with an LCD display, with future iPhones moving to OLED or other, more advanced display technologies.

MyDrivers acknowledged that this assertion stands in contrast to other recent claims that the third-generation iPhone SE would continue with the design of the current, second-generation model, but was insistent that it is correct. The iPhone SE currently shares the same design as the now-discontinued iPhone 8, with a Touch ID scanner built into the Home Button.

Rumors around the design of the next iPhone SE have been muddled, with rumors from reliable sources such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young initially saying that the device would feature a 6.1-inch display like the iPhone XR, but with a Touch ID side button. This year, Kuo and Young withdrew these expectations, saying that the third-generation iPhone SE would instead have the same design as the current model with a Home Button.

Some of the confusion around the iPhone SE may be explained by the 6.1-inch model potentially being the fourth-generation iPhone SE. Young now expects a fourth-generation iPhone SE to launch in 2023, featuring a 6.1-inch display and a hole-punch front-facing camera.

MyDrivers said that the third-generation iPhone SE will reportedly launch in the spring of 2022, and start with 64GB of storage and the same $399 starting price of the current model.

MyDrivers has a mixed track record. Although the site erroneously suggested that the iPhone 7 Plus would actually be called the "iPhone Pro" and the fourth-generation iPad Air would launch in March 2021, it correctly predicted that the iPhone 7 would be available with up to 256GB of storage, that third-generation iPad Pro would contain a 7nm chip with eight cores, and that the fourth-generation iPad Air would feature a larger display, the A14 Bionic chip, a Smart Connector with Magic Keyboard support, a USB-C port, and stereo speakers.

The biggest problem with this rumor is the fact that it's the body of the XR with the A15 - which essentially makes it the same body of the iPhone 11 with more power. That's strange considering the iPhone 11 is still on sale at $499 - I.e. MORE than the supposed next-gen SE will cost. So I don't see this happening in '22 unless they plan to discontinue iPhone 11. Alternatively they could launch it alongside iPhone 14 next fall when iPhone 11 is officially discontinued and the 12 is the next lowest in price (with OLED & face ID being the main draws).

This will sell like pancakes.

Latin america + chinese market doesn't need 45 cameras and FaceID. Not everyone saves nuclear codes on their phone. Some people want a good reliable phone running iOS that lasts years.

Actually in my country, the Pro version always gets the less units, in a market where you can get $200 smartphones, how you can compete with iPhone pro models? They are just too expensive.

Also, some people do not like FaceID, and if you care about security, why would anyone downgrade their faceid security if you can buy a TouchID-iPhone?

Then, some people actually carry good cameras, like thousand of dollars in equipment. Why have another $1200+ device in their pockets?

Really, US is a niche when it comes to overpriced iPhones.
