Yeah that tiering bs didn’t work out too well for Apple this year. Nobody cares about the non-Pros with last year’s chip. We might not see that nonsense stick around next year.
What do you mean it didn't work well. Look at the high demand of the 14 Pros and Pro Maxes. In the end, Apple gets more money. Seems like it worked perfectly well for Apple.

In the end, Apple prefer more people buying their $1000 phones. Why would Apple want more people buying their cheapest phone?

For now. There are people that will postpone or second guess upgrading because of the higher costs and then Apple loses out. This may be insignificant right now but that could change in the future.

You are underestimating the power of the Apple brand and their customer segment. Considering how Apple is having a hard time keeping the 14 Pros in stock, I don't think Apple is worried at all. And how can Apple "loses" out when now we even have an $800 Apple Watch?

In my country, we just had the iPhone 14 Pro launch last weekend ago. The base 128GB 14 Pro is priced at $1300. People were lining up on the launch midnight.

You're right, the enthusiasts will buy it sure. But if someone decides to keep their phone 2 years instead of 1, or 4 years instead of 3 then Apple loses out. Higher prices along with product maturity and "boring" standard models could slowly push people away from frequent upgrades. In the end the more appealing the overall lineup is the more customers they will end up with.

I'll gladly give up my 14pro for a upgraded XS with 75-80% of the 14pros battery life. I regret upgrading from the 13 Mini.

I hate the Xr… it’s my work cell phone and it’s huge and heavy 😩
Good for those who want a big phone though I suppose

No one is buying the 14 - why would this be so in demand?

People want access to iOS/iMessage/FaceTime/Airdrop etc. without having to sell a kidney.

Considering how Apple has been making a concerted effort to focus on subscription-based software features, I'm sure they would be happy to oblige as long as it means more people using the iPhone globally.

This would kill off non pro sales
Not necessarily. Just like previous SE, this will use an "outdated" body design, aka the XR, where the rest of the lineup has switched to the newer flat design and the flagship models will have dynamic island. Also, it will still be single lens camera, which is a no no in the status symbol crowd.

You will be surprised how many people will buy a new phone based on the looks so people around him/her will know he/she has the latest one (or at least not the cheapest one).

This SE will be popular with lower end consumers in developed market who are looking for free phone with contracts.

I know it’s been said a million times but I’m saying it again - The main draw of the OGSE, at least as it was received by its fans, was that it was diminutive in size but still packed a Tier 1 punch. It’s so disappointing to see it slowly diluted into a gigantic and cheap Fisher Price handset whose reason to exist seams mainly to extend the life of legacy parts and production tools. It’s probably lazy thinking to always blame a CEO for everything bad, but this particular slip from top drawer niche to bargain basement third best has Cook‘s fingerprints plastered all over it. The bad juju just keeps coming from New Apple 🫤

Too much speculation (at Apple?), give us an Iphone Mini with iPad Air style Touch ID and basta!
I like the Touch ID and there is no price tag to convince me to change to Face ID.

iPhone SE - the SE stand for Stock Emptying.
If there’s still a bunch of old iPhone 8 chassis in Apple’s stock then the next iPhone SE will use that. If they’ve sold enough of those old iPhone 8 leftover bodies, Tim Apple will move on to the unused iPhone XR chassis and sell them off as “new design iPhone SE”.

No one is buying the 14 - why would this be so in demand?

Because it would be cheaper. iPhone 14 would be selling fine if it wasn’t almost the same price as a 14 Pro.

Currently, most people who pay top-dollar for a high end phone will just go the extra $200 for a Pro - it’s a no brainier really.

But an SE would hopefully be significantly cheaper, making it price-competitive with Android phones.

“Develop” is such a big word for an essentially same old chip, same old body. “Mix and match inventory” is more like it.
Correct.

And there will not be a Touch-ID side button on SE 4 as this would kill the need for Face ID on it and thus make it notch-less way before Pro and mid-tier get there.

Apple’s hardcore product segmentation strategy can under no circumstances have you look at a given lineup and be even the slightest confused about what is newer and more expensive and what is the old/outdated/budget SE option.

By 2024, mid-tier and Pro will have shifted to a new, upgraded version of Face ID so this new XR can safely move to (by 2024) old Face ID without threatening mid-tier and Pro iPhone sales.

Do you guys think Apple will have enough courage and we will see iPhone SE (2023) implementing the USB-C?
Can we expect the first-ever iPhone with USB-C?

Apple’s top engineers have been working for years to crack the technical challenges of putting USB-C on a phone. A real “moon shot” project. The stakes are immense, the R&D costs enormous. Failure could mean disaster and bankruptcy. By my god, if the rumours are true they might just have gone and done it.

Good luck, Apple, our hearts and wallets are with you! USB-C on iPhones will truly be one of man’s greatest achievements in our time.

Surely some sort of notch (albeit maybe a smaller one) is still needed for the front-facing camera?
