Sounds great for the special use case.

Not really just for special case.
It changed how the director of my department works, and it changed how my wife works. It improved their workflow quite a bit... and they're not artists.
Is it a computer replacement? No. Is it intended to be? I don't think so. They sell it as so? Yep.

Not shocked it's selling well. I still personally know allot of people who like the iPhone 5 size, the price is actually competitive for once, and it's the most powerful and feature-rich phone in it's size class.

I can tell from the SE's price that Apple is feeling the burn from the quality Android phones you can get for $400, and I'm an iPhone guy through and through myself. I love competition. Hopefully we will see the large iPhones get a price drop.

Nothing really "sells out", the delivery dates just get pushed back.

Of course there will be some demand. It remains to be seen just how much. You'd think that since they're marketing this as a "current" phone at a cheaper price point (as opposed to last year's model at a cheaper price point) that they'll sell more than the 30 million they sold last year of 4" phones.

You would think. But there also might be less demand for 4" phones this year in general. This is a great iPhone at a very good price. If I had to buy an iPhone today, this is probably the one I would buy over spending more for the 6s (which is currently the phone I have). But lots of people like the bigger phones.

On demand, I suspect Apple is going to have a hard time guessing demand for this phone. They might have decided to be conservative in their pre-launch production levels and stockpiles. Without knowing those decisions we can't tell if delayed shipping dates are due to "high" demand or due to cautious advance ordering by Apple.

Or, y'know, it's a product that people asked Apple to make so they made it... People who wanted a 4" phone have repeatedly stated on this forum and others that the 5S is great, all it needs is the 6S internals and they'd have a sale. That's exactly what they have produced.

I'm not sure how this is a "scrap heap" design - I mean, what specifically makes it that? It has the internals of a 6S, so it's not that, which means it must be because the external chassis looks like a 5S, so I have to ask, what makes it "scrap heap" to stick with a design that clearly works instead of just making it look like the 6S (presumably, since you don't think the current phones are "scrap heap designs") just for the sake of it?

Yes. Some people want a 4" phone, which they always had available in the 5s.

The 5SE came about after sales of the 6 stalled.

Apple was left with 6 internals and falling sales.

Solution: drop the 6 internals where possible (not 3D touch) in the 5s body shell and have a fire sale to clear old stock. Also helps to push Apple Pay.

If the SE had been a proper 4" design, it would have been revamped to fit in with the language and form factor of the 6, and it would have been a proper part of the 6 family.

This fudged 5 body with fudged 6 internals and a fudged name that harks back to a three-year-old design is a Frankenstein in every possible sense, not a genuine attempt to build a new phone for the 4" market.

Sure, lots of people will be happy with the 5SE. It's a great phone, especially if it was still 2013/2014.

If the 6 series was doing well, the 5SE wouldn't have seen light of day. It's a panic response by Apple.

It's not a phone fit for 2016. IMO, of course.

At least this time round, Apple can't say "The Apple pencil is in short supply." :p (hehe)

Used the iPhone Apple Store App. Ordered the 9.7-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular 256GB - Space Gray with AppleCare, delivers 31-Mar. Pencil delivers 28-Mar, Keyboard delivers 7/11-Apr. Wuld have ordered the SE but the 64GB is just too small for my needs so I'll just hold on to my 128GB 6 until something better comes along.

If Steve Jobs was still alive, we would have moved on to another form factor by now. Rehashing the same thing year after year is going to put Apple out of business. Just because people want something doesn't mean it's good for them. Steve Job knew this and knew what you wanted before you even wanted it.

If Steve Jobs were here, he'd roll his eyes very hard at the constant, ridiculous argument of "If [insert someone who is dead] was here...everything would be awesome!!1!1!"

I was ready for the iPad Pro 9.7 until news broke it only had 2gb of ram. So disappointing.

First people were complaining about 1GB, then Apple finally updates the entire line to 2GB and people still bitch about that. :p

What Application on iOS requires more than 2GB? I can't even run out of RAM on purpose with my Air 2. Is this disappointment purely just because the 12.9" has more RAM? I was shocked and baffled why the 12.9" even had 4GB of RAM, to be quite frank.

I use two Office Apps at the Same Time with Many Safari tabs open when I use it for work.
Or maybe apple does not mean work when they say "pro". If one by saying "pro" implies Netflix... then ok

I ordered two just to offset yours. Some people on here need to get a grip.

Those w/an iphone 6 or bigger have already lost their grip. I placed my order at 8:30 EST and the ship date for the 64GB Space Grey has since slipped to April 1-5. Kinda bummed that since I agreed to sell my iPhone 6 on 3/27. Luckily I still have my unlocked iphone 4...

Didnt ordered it because it isnt available in my country yet.
But i will order 3 space gray iPhones SE 64GB to replace all my family phones.
It's the best iPhone Apple ever released. A beast in the perfect size and the most beautiful design EVER in a phone.

Come on. The A9 processor was a near impossibility in 2013/2014. It is the most advanced mobile chip on the market. The phone's 5 body looks great. Much better than the 6 in my opinion. And the 6s has been breaking records in sales. It might not sell as much as the 6 (in fact the release of the SE pretty much guarantees the 6s sales will drop a lot, since why pay more for basically the same phone), but the 6s is already guaranteed to beat the sales of any phone not made by Apple in 2015-2016.

The only "panic" move for Apple is the cheap pricing. At $499 for the 64gb this is the phone to buy for anyone who is a bit budget conscious. With 2gb of ram and the A9 processor, this is a phone that you could use for four years and not suffer from performance issues. And at the end of those four years (if you kept it in a case), I bet you will be able to sell it for around $80.

Just did that now on my Air 2, still no tab refreshing. Excel, Word, Outlook, with 7 tabs Safari.

I would think that the logistics guy that he is, Tim Cook would treat this the same as any other product release in terms of ensuring a successful hardware rollout. But really they do kind of have an inkling...it's a fact that a significant segment of users are not following the upgrade path to large devices, and really why should they...thru 5 iterations of the phone the only thing that changed with regards to the overall ergonomics were the economics of bigger phones
