I agree. Even though a vocal, but tiny minority keep saying that they want a small phone with Touch ID, a huge portion of the user base sees a small budget phone with decade old design as not worthy to buy.

A lot of people want something cheap with a decent screen size, that doesn't look like it was designed in 2015, and they go and pick a cheap Android phones. Now Apple is finally (hopefully) offering something for them.
I'm part of the vocal minority.

I've tried Android phones in the same price range and had good luck with OnePlus and a horrible experience with Google.

I don't want a huge phone. I'd rather have an LCD than OLED technology to keep the price down. 120 Hz OLED was good, 60 Hz is miserable. Compromising the display to satisfy someone's need for a bigger size doesn't make sense.

Both Android phones I've tried have an under display fingerprint reader. Again, OnePlus was great and Google was awful. Face ID will be used as much as Hello on Windows.

ProMotion features a variable refresh rate that adapts to the user requirements optimizing battery life. Many phones featuring 120 Hz refresh rate is fixed, at the price of battery life. (Some allow for selecting a lower refresh rate as a result, with many selecting the lower refresh rate as a result, anyhow.) Apple knows precisely what they're doing offering a 60 Hz rate instead of an Always-On 120 Hz. Further, many cannot tell the difference between the two for their typical daily use.

Will they stop selling the 14's and 15's when they release this? Except for the ultrawide lense and dynamic island on the 15, the new SE is better than both of these, with 8GB RAM and faster chip.

That render looks really good, although I wonder what colors will actually be available. The last couple generations of the SE have been limited to a black, white and red options. Apple seems to be moving away from (Product)Red though and I can see them doing black, white and a couple different colored options (like a blue and pink or a green and purple).

I have never considered buying an iPhone SE before, but if this phone turns out to be what the rumors are saying, I may choose to just upgrade to this instead of the iPhone 17. Full screen with the notch was a big upgrade over the previous form factor, but when I use my wife's phone with a dynamic island, I don't really feel like the dynamic island adds any real usability over my notch. It's nice having a wide angle camera lens every once in a while, but I wouldn't pay a bunch of extra money for it.

The iPhone SE felt a generation behind previously, but if this one turns out to be what people are saying, it will be an excellent and current basic budget phone.

It's already outdated if it won't have the A19 chip. Other iPhones that are introduced in 2025 will have the A19 chip.

Hopefully they discontinue the 14 and 15. Without Apple Intelligence they have no place in the lineup.

Based on the release of the 1st and 2nd gen iPhone SEs it is very likely that the iPhone 14 will be discontinued when this SE is released. Not sure what will happen with the 15 though as this is the first time the SE has had essentially the same form factor as the rest of the lineup.

If you’re going to buy one I would do it now because they probably won’t update it for another 4 years.

Or this could start a new iPhone release trend, similar to what Google does with its Pixel "a" models i.e., launch a budget version of a previous year's model every year.

This year's budget iPhone would be the 16E, next year the 17E, year after that the 18E, and so on. It could also mean that one and two year old models would no longer be offered new from Apple.

If past SE launches are any guide, the iPhone 14 will likely be discontinued once the new SE 4 / 16E comes out. When the original iPhone SE launched in March 2016, the iPhone 5S on which it was largely based was discontinued. When the second generation iPhone SE launched in April 2020, the iPhone 8 on which it was largely based was discontinued.

It will support Apple Intelligence and yet the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 do not. Surprise, surprise...

Older models not supporting a newer technology? Hardly surprising, happens all the time. In this particular case it is a minimum of 8GB of RAM that matters, with anything lower not getting it.

Ya'll think it'll have 120Hz display?
Nope. It will be the iPhone 14 display, most probably.
$200 android phones have 120hz displays now.
And so ? Most $200 android phones (but even $500…) has displays that don’t really compare with iPhone’s, even if the refresh rate is higher.
Refresh rate is just ONE element of the screen, and not even the most important.

I’m gonna get at least one and I can’t wait!! It’s for my dad and he loves his iPad and it really improved his life and I think this device is going to make him happy too. We, members of Macrumors, can complain a lot but in the end Apple devices are still really good and well thought out devices that actually make people happy. I think the new SE is going to be one of those too.

There’s a Chinese retailer website showing 64GB as the base storage…surely that can’t be the case?

I'm still rocking a first gen SE. Naked and shattered with glass shards sticking out for over a year now. It's my 3rd one since 2016. I love the smaller phones. I've been holding out for this one but if they're gonna force me into a larger phone it might end up being the pro model.

Is it even possible to read those displays outside? When I started to use the Google Pixel 6a, I could barely see the display at full brightness. The 2020 or 2022 iPhone SE display is easily visible.
