I would like to see the iPhone SE revamped in 2018. One of Apples best iPhones that's released in the last two years was the iPhone SE. Affordable and has outstanding battery life in a compact form factor.

I wouldn’t go down from a 5.5”, but I get where you’re coming from. I used my iPhone 5S for almost 4 years.

I love the SE, but you really dont understand? Its because its an old, smaller form factor.
There's no reason they couldn't put most of the specs of the newer phones into the smaller case size. It wouldn't have the advantage in price, but it would sell to those of us who prefer the small form factor.

Assuming everything works out well with the X a bezel less design in the same form factor as the SE would be the one thing that would make me trade in my 7+ for an upgrade.

I will rock the iPhone SE until they update it. Period.

Same. It is their best device, probably because all of the best people who designed it no longer work at Apple, and it wasn't touched by Tim Cook.

Seriously though, their best ergonomic form factor, best battery life (it's insane, seriously), and still have a retina screen. I don't care that the body is basically the same as 5 or 6 or however many years ago from the iPhone 4/4S/5/5S series. It was their best. I personally do not like the look of iPhone X. iPhone 8 looks nicer, but the camera bubble and overall shape of the phone is still not as nice as the SE. I hope they do a refresh.

I want that. Apple - PLEASE make this!

I just upgraded from a 5S to an 8 and while my eyes love the bigger screen my hands hate the bigger device.

Try going from that 5S to an 8+. I am lucky to have large enough hands to use it with one. Barely.

In any case, I won’t go back to a smaller screen willingly ;)

Finally caved from my SE and bought an 8. Who at Apple thought a rounded edge phone where a user's thumb can barely reach the top was a good idea? I would gladly take a thicker/heavier updated SE than this slippery thing that for some reason has the same battery life as a phone 4/5 its size.

I love it. It would be the first iPhone I have desired since the 5 (the model I still use despite having bought a 6 Plus for game development).

It isn't just the size I like. Flat glass looks better and allow fitmemt of a full width screen protector. No camera hump at the back. The flat sides are easier to hold. Just bring back the all black.

Then where do you propose the sensors and front camera be located?

Where they've been for decades: in their own row. A lot of people would have preferred that to the notch, at least the way Apple implemented it so it's in our face at times.

It's certainly not a case of wanting a full frontal screen, because the iPhone X still does not have one.

That's exactly what I was thinking! What's the point of having a 4" phone if you're only gonna imagine it larger??

I thought the idea was not to make the device larger, but just the display by removing the bezels.

Why? Isn't the point of the SE that people like me can still buy a 4" device with an audio jack? Edit: NVM, question was answered. No bezel, same size phone. Eh, I might still want a home button, but IDK yet.

I am Asian and got small hands (in Western standard), been using the 3.5" since iPhone 3G, always thought the jump from 5s to 6 was the divider from ergonomics centric to features centric on an iPhone. I wouldn't even call the smaller 6/7/8 a one-handed phone, let alone the plus's. The biggest appeal of the smaller form factor is not just one-handed use, but more like one-thumbed use, with no instance needing to adjust my grip to reach one end of the screen, and no fear of dropping the phone in the process.

If Apple thinks there is no market for a feature/flagship phone in the SE form factor they are wrong. Like some said in the thread, I would gladly pay more than the iPhone X to get this thing if it existed.

Never understood posting articles around non-existent devices. This isn’t front page news, it’s not news at all.

It's a rumor, fueled by SE owners' wishlist. And anyway the name of this place is MacRumors, not MacNews.

I'd be up for an X stuffed into an SE and I don't even care about the notch. Wireless charging, sure but could live without it. Could live with ports what they are now too on SE lol, but that's a real stretch for a wishlist. Time marches on, audio jack is doomed and USB-C gets to wear the crown for awhile.

Maybe something different for the next SE, get away from the precious metals. Red and black like those U2 special edition iPods, they looked really great. Black glass would be cool with a red frame.

The 5/5s/SE body is so overrated. The iPhone 6 and beyond are way better

It's not the best version of the phone

I totally agree, honestly the 5/5s/SE is my least favorite iPhone design. the two award glass pieces on the back with the camera oddly close to one side. just always felt clunky. and don't get me started on the flat sides.

I honestly would love the iPhone X from with the iPhone 8 back, i love the detailing they did on it.

It will be named the SEX LOL! iPhone S.E.X. That’d sell! Just joking, I actually like the idea, I have always had the newest iphone when it comes out but this time I decided to get off the latest greatest bus. Since I have a MacBook Pro and an iPad Pro 10.5 and thinking of “what do I do with my phone” then being not much impressed with the new X I looked at the iphone SE and immediately thought this is really just right for what I do with a phone. It’s much easier to hold, pocket and navigate around the screen and does everything i need an iPhone to do. So, much to the surprise of the folks at the store since the new 8 and X had just come out the day before I picked up an SE with 128GB and I have loved using it. If I need to do big things I have bigger screens to do that on that will do it much better as well. I dont need to carry a computer in my pocket anymore. I nearly always have my iPad Pro 10.5 with me and it is always on so I just cant see the need. Unless Apple Wow’s me more than these new iPhones did. And by the way I saved $50 on the SE after the big show!

The best PHONE form factor by far was the iPhone 4/s. The 3.5” screen, the nice big bottom bezel, and flat edges made it perfectly easy and secure to use one handed—it was an extension of your hand. And when you weren’t using it, it disappeared into your pocket and you forgot it was there. It was the perfect balance of comfort and utility, not trying to be too many things. But now iPhones are trying to be iPads, losing their phone-ness yet not really attaining iPad-ness. That may be a compromise a lot of people want these days, but for myself, when I want an iPad I use my iPad. The rest of the time I just want a pure iPHONE.

That said, I know 3.5 isn’t coming back any time soon. I can definitely live with the SE. But please don’t make it bigger. And don’t take away the bezels either, at least the bottom bezel. Without it, reaching the bottom of the screen with my thumb will be a huge pain.

I think Apple should just update the internal specs. Don’t mess with the recipe too much. Everyone who loves their SE seems to really love it - I don’t think it needs some weird new radical redesign that tries to ape the X, or a bigger screen, or a notch(!).

Just give me the basic guts (CPU/GPU) of the 8, upgrade the cameras, maybe make the screen a little better, TouchID2, done.

Leave the form factor alone as far as I’m concerned, it’s pretty much perfect (well, I’d take the 4/s form factor ideally, but I’m not sure that would work comfortably with iOS now all the other models have the longer/taller ratio). Maybe slightly different colours if you must, I’d like an all-black SE. And a 256GB option if I’m making a wishlist.

This is actually exactly how I pictured the iPhone x would end up being.

The 5s is my favorite iPhone design out of all of the iPhones.

iPhone 5 form factor, bigger screen with the iPhone x’s guts and camera. Shoot even making the top bar black to match the bezel was something I thought Apple was going to do.

This should be the iPhone Steve jobs edition paying homage to the last design he had his fingerprints on
