Whooo, that color is just... unique. More power to you if you love it and are rocking it. I'd like to see Apple delve into a blue shade or a true black again, or anything new to stop using the rose color on all of their promotional materials.

I think Mary Kay Cosmetics gives those away when you sell a ton of pink eye shadow. ;)

See Apple? Making a phone thicker greatly improves the battery life. So stop making things thinner and use your damn mind instead of investing in new technologies just to keep the battery life the same.

Keep the same thickness and enlarge the screen and you end up with a much heavier phone. It's not some irrational obsession that drives Apple to create thinner mobile devices as some conspiracy theorists on here claim... It's about weight and overall usability. Even the 6S is noticeably heavier than the 6 due to 3D Touch and my HTC M8 is significantly heavier and feels like a brick in my slacks even though the overall dimensions aren't much bigger.

Apple generally makes very good decisions when it comes to these kinds of design/engineering trade-offs as evidenced by the better performance/battery ratio to Samsung's latest flagship, even though the iPhone is using 6 month old tech.

Its good to see Apple responding to what people want, instead of solely forcing what Apple wants on the people, as so often happens. I still prefer my 6, but happy you 5'ers found your love :)

I'd like to see a true black again too. The watch has Space Black. It may not be a true deep black, but I'd sure as hell take that over the Space Gray :(

Thank you! I prefer white over black now because of space gray. It's horrible. Not as horrible as rose gold, mind you.
[doublepost=1458849083][/doublepost]Is anyone thinking about downsizing from the 6? I might regret the size difference, but I still like the feel of that phone better than the new ones.

I don't care much but seems like had they spend a couple extra bucks on a better front camera it would have been worthwhile. I suppose their margins were so tight that they felt like it wasn't important although I bet most people would have been fine with the iphone 6 camera on the rear if it meant a better front camera

My wife went from a 5S to a 6s and while she uses it fine, she says she can't adjust to the size of the phone. It's not a major issue, just annoying. I told her about this phone and she was like yes yes yes...until the lack of 3D Touch. She uses it a lot for work. Maybe their next iteration...

I'm kind of with her on that. I am taken aback slightly at the lack of 3D Touch.

No. someone would complain. Even if that someone didn't "care much". It's what people do.

A pleasant surprise and great news, I'm happy to read this kind of feedback. Apple has been increasingly sacrificing function for form over recent years in many of its product offerings and this is a welcome change!

Well yes, obviously battery life will be a lot better when you are not obsessed about making thinner and thinner products each year.

It has nothing to do with being thin, but it has everything to do with screen resolution. If it had the 6s screen res, it would have the same battery life.

Maybe the reason is the supply of components, but why is Apple differentiating between models-- has 3d touch, doesn't have 3d touch. Has entirely different design to current line. Bizarre naming. Differentiate on memory and phone size only. Keep it uncomplicated. I suspect iphone 7 will come in three sizes starting at 4 inch, all with the same design language (ie a single uni glass back with curved edges in a variety of colors, glass front, reduced top and bottom bezel, antenna and camera running inside and hidden in the glass). iPhone SE will then be demoted to budget iPhone then which is why it has received an odd name this time.

It's not the thickness, it's the smaller, lower resolution screen that helps with the battery life here.

Hpw many other non-perfect phones do we have for this purpose?

All of the competition's smaller phones that cheap out and skimp on performance at that size.

The 7 will definitely beat the SE in all categories, it will just not come in a 4-inch form factor
I believe the 7 will come in 4 inch also, so three sizes. Apple has realised their mistake. The SE will then be demoted to budget device in the Sept/Oct line up.

If the SE had been out the same time as the 6s I am pretty sure sales of the 6s would have been a lot lower. I actually think they may have made it too good value... Not that I am complaining! I wonder how long they will keep it around or if it is just a stop gap until they just have a 3 phone line up?

There was a time when I believed smartphones got bigger so they could pack more battery life, but at least with A-proccesors energy efficiency drastically improved, and the SE proves this since it's the same form factor with 5/5s.
If Apple weren't so obsessed with thin, we'de probably see iPhones with amazing battery life, but unfortunately it seems Jony Doesn't feel the same.
Smart phones became bigger because they drive more Internet browsing usage which drives more telecommunications usage and higher carrier profits.

I'll wait till fall to upgrade, but unless the 7 beats the SE in ALL these categories, I think this is my new phone.

The 7 will likely have it's own 4" for the reasons I outline below. It may come out in September with the 7 & 7+, but it might also come out next March, or even with the 7s.

I disagree.

I think they miss out on the opportunity to not update the physical design of the phone. I personally think the iPhone 5-design is nice and all, but tactically I think they will have people think and feel that it is old. Which it is. Remember when they killed the mp3-market by having a well differentiated and often updated physical design of the iPods. I am convinced that the same or similar approach with the iPhone would have had similar effect.

They didn't miss the opportunity, it just doesn't make sense 6 months before they introduce a brand new redesigned model, and the 6 finally becomes the old model.

And yes the SE looks like the old model, which is why they are making it attractive at $399. People will look twice at the SE when they realize it's essentially the same phone as the 6s for $250 less.

Tactically, this is a very shrewd move on Apple's part. Without spending much more on the phone, they've created a 4" 6s, which they can depreciate with the larger models for the next two years. They get a 4" phone into customer's hands, learn just how many 4" customers they have willing to upgrade to the current model, and can lay the ground work for a completely redesigned 4" phone when the 7 comes out -- a design they can charge a premium for, and accommodates more of the flagship features. Moreover, when that happens, they can drop the SE to $299, and possibly even to $199 before it's discontinued in the US, and can potentially sell it unsubsidized for $99 in 3 years in developing markets.
