This is absolutely the phone to get if you are a budget-conscious consumer, or if you prefer the smaller screen size.

I'll be recommending this to my parents and any of my "non-tech" friends who hate spending money on gadgets.

I was a staunch supporter of the 4" screen size when the 6 came out and I held onto my 5S. When the 6S came out I reluctantly upgraded to a 6S and now I am not so sure I could go back to a 4" screen. I do miss the compactness of the 5S design and I do think it looks better, but I am used to a bigger screen now. Not to mention I would really miss 3D Touch. Despite what most people think about 3D Touch, it has changed the way I multitask. Being able to quickly switch between apps with the 3D Touch on the left edge is so nice and a lot faster than double tapping the home button.

I think they miss out on the opportunity to not update the physical design of the phone. I personally think the iPhone 5-design is nice and all, but tactically I think they will have people think and feel that it is old. Which it is. Remember when they killed the mp3-market by having a well differentiated and often updated physical design of the iPods. I am convinced that the same or similar approach with the iPhone would have had similar effect.
IPhone 7 will come in three sizes including 4 inch. Apple realised the mistake.

Meanwhile, Samsung and BestBuy are busy advertising for themselves in Macrumors too....

This is something I'm starting to believe too. The 7 will most likely come in all three sizes.

Or maybe the 7S will come in three sizes? I think waiting just a few months before releasing a new 4" would leave a sour taste in many mouths.. but if touted as a "new" feature for the 7 - a 4" phone, would make more sense.

Sweet, I think I'll get one once the pre-order rush all calms down. It will be a good upgrade from my 5S. I was originally just using it until the iPhone 7 came out, but I've gotten accustomed to how easy it is to hold and use.

No 3d touch its selling point for me or maybe i got tired hearing from other tech about it, while ignoring that this phone has chamfered edges math finish..which is big deal for me, so big that i might have to choose 5s over this phone

Did the diamond-cut machine brokeo_O

The psychology of this is very interesting. People have been swayed by Apple's marketing to the point it's become embarrassing. They said they love the iPhone 6/6s it's so large and so great. Now they just hate bigger phones so much and with a passion they just want the small model again. A little consistency and critical thinking when it comes to buying Apple products, peeps!

The iPhone 5/5s/SE remains the best designed iPhone yet - - why mess with a good thing?
Agreed. I hate the small, rounded edge of the 6 models. I haven't upgraded to the larger forms because they do not have a flat edge, which my fingers find easier to hold for long periods of time. I hope 7 has a flat edge, or that this phone gets an upgraded screen and FT camera soon.

If the 7 does come in three sizes then the smallest won't be the price of the current 5SE, they left room for a more expensive 4" screen phone

I have a 6 Plus and really enjoy the large screen estate, especially when thumb typing which is easier for me. But, the rounded edges makes it slippery even on the car's cradle. I highly suspect Apple may return to the flat edges for the iPhone 7. They're going to have to, if they want the battery to last longer by reverting back to the actual thickness of the SE for entire ip7 line, AND get rid of the camera ring that sticks out on the rear.

That is the only way for the company to get back on the right direction for the phone line.

It's not a 5se, it's SE.

And that non-numerical name choice is crucial; as I don't think they plan to have another 4" iPhone this year.. so the non-numerical name allows the phone to stay in the range for longer than the traditional annual cycle.

SE, 6s, 6s+
SE, 7, 7+
etc

I don't feel it will be a big deal because of its higher price point. It's not like they'll be releasing the same thing at the same price just better.

I think SE is going to mean "classic" not "small".

It's not the thickness, it's the smaller, lower resolution screen that helps with the battery life here.

All of the competition's smaller phones that cheap out and skimp on performance at that size.
Yep, article is about Apple phones

lol no amount of marketing ******** is bringing back 4 inch phones. I guess they always have the rebel iwatch demographic to push more pointless products to.
