This is all cute, but this isn't a "budget" offering anywhere else other than the US.
In Europe you can already have a used 6s for what a new 5se costs.
It all boils down to the form factor and that's it.

lol no amount of marketing ******** is bringing back 4 inch phones.

Guess again. It was marketing that brought in the giant phones (and the need for giant batteries in the days when Android and LTE were huge battery hogs). So long as there are people who want 4" phones, and there are plenty, they will never actually go away. If there is a 4" 7, I will go back in a heartbeat. My wife is going back even if it's just the SE. I have enough big screens around me at all times, don't need a phone to be any bigger than something I can easily palm...not just rest on my hand while I reach across.

Are you sure it's not related to the current exchange rates? I've never seen the pound as low as it is.

The main reason I'm not getting one is the lack of 2nd-gen Touch ID. 2nd-gen works for me 95% of the time, 1st-gen works for me 10% of the time. I guess they think the average person won't notice, but for me it's the difference between broken and works great. Seems cheap to use old parts, but Apple loves their profit margins.

>>> Yes, it has more features -- including 3D Touch, a better front-facing camera and a larger display -- but the price point Apple has set will be very compelling. <<<

i don't consider a bigger display nessesarily as a "feature" .. sizes matters - well not every time!

Zero chance they come out with a 4-inch phone 6 months after the launch of this.

Just like no chance Apple would release an iPad Pro spec iPad 9.7" tablet with even BEST front/rear camera, Retina Flash, pencil support, top end display beating the 12.9" brother, and 256GB memory FOUR MONTHS after iPad Pro released. No Apple will never do such a thing!

annoying that they couldn't make it a design like the new ones really.
Personally I feel the exact opposite as you do. I would have been seriously let down if they had passed on such a classic design.

I'm kind of with her on that. I am taken aback slightly at the lack of 3D Touch.
While 3D touch is alright, I'd much rather have the larger battery than sacrifice space to add the 3D touch hardware. On my 6s I rarely use the 3D touch feature. But I always use the battery. An extra hour of run time trade off would be nice.

5SE is an interim product. After 18 months with no new 4 inch design, they had to do something. Apple have previously launched products with a short lifespan including an iPad. SE will be demoted in Sep/Oct, with a slight price drop, and will remain available for at least another 18 months as a low cost entry to the iPhone world.

Sounds like a great phone for lots of people.

I’ll wait for the 128GB version next year, though.
I won't wait. I bought it and if Apple does upgrade it to 128GB next year I'll trade up for that one. I couldn't pass this one up miss my old iPhone 5 and now same form but the power of the 6s and better battery. It's a win win.

I think whether you like this phone or not, it's proof that Apple listens to customers and provides an alternative for those who don't want the bigger phones. A lot of customers voiced that they didn't want a bigger iPhone when the 6 came out in larger sizes.

My wife was one of them. I have huge hands so I'm cool with the 6 but didn't get the plus size. She would have gone for the SE instantly if it were an option. Unfortunately, she went to a 6S and now she doesn't want to go back.

Agreed. I hate the small, rounded edge of the 6 models. I haven't upgraded to the larger forms because they do not have a flat edge, which my fingers find easier to hold for long periods of time. I hope 7 has a flat edge, or that this phone gets an upgraded screen and FT camera soon.

And that stripes on the back, and that outside camera.. Iphone6/6s design is the worst in apple history.

5s/SE is the best design ever. (SE even better because of the matte edges and stainless logo)

iPhone SE, 16 gigabytes for $399, 64 gigabytes for $499 for a 4 inch phone with big bezels. Yippee. o_O

4 inches is just too small (coming from a biased 6s+ owner). I honestly don't get the rapture for tiny, tiny screens causing eyestrain and being too minuscule to properly view media/text. 4.5 inch screen is the absolute minimum for me (that can still be ergonomically feasible for this form factor)

Pretty sure you had a defective Touch ID.

I've owned two 5s's in 3 years. Both worked 99% of the time. I actually prefer the old on to the new one.

Also think there is zero chance the iPhone 7 comes in 4 inch form factor. Apple didn't need the se as an interim product to fill 6 month gap. The fact it has top specs means this phone will be the top of the line 4 inch for at least a year. Hope I'm wrong.

I've been using my old iPhone 5s to adapt to the change from a 6s plus it hasn't failed once.

Google iphone 5 dust lens and you'll find a multitude of documented issues and discussions ranging from the 5 to 5s model. People reporting that Apple was aware of the flaw etc.
if you "Google" you can find almost everything.
There is no "flaw" but just defective units. A few hundreds over several millions sold are hardly unexpected.

It sure seems like this device is going to cannibalize the potential interest in the 6S. This news kind of makes me wish I held out longer on my purchase. Love the phone, but the battery life is abysmal, and my 5S was probably my favorite phone all-in-all. I'm sure the 6S+ Isn't significantly better. I can kill the battery in my 6S before I'm work, and I don't use it for game applications of any kind.

Same problem here. My 5S battery won't last a whole day in the field due to low reception. I'm hoping the SE fixes that with both better LTE reception and longer battery life.

This happened to me. Took it to an apple store, they tried to use compressed are to remove it, couldn't, so they gave me a brand new phone.

I was going to ask if it was under warranty but you answered it already. Yes. Shame as I have the same issue on my 5S. Maybe I'll try my luck with an apple store or just take it apart myself and clean it out with compressed air.
