The 4" won't need updated anymore... The redesigned 4.7" iPhone next year where they ditch the fugly rounded edges and giant bezels will be about the same size as the 4" SE. More screen, less wasted space.

Even if in the future they'll have 3 sizes Flagships, i hope they’ll keep refreshing the SE every second year with the S circle without changing the body-size- shape (maybe squeeze 4.3” screen on it) and keeping the low price tag.

If they refresh it then I hope they feature 3D touch and faster touch ID plus dropping the 16GB model for 32GB and 128GB. and keep the current SE for lower price.
this is how i hope the pricing will be
SE 16GB 299$
SE (second generation) 32GB 399$
SE (second generation) 128GB 499$

Well, this is dire news.

I'm still waiting for a 4" iPhone with at least 128GB and preferably 3TB. My trusty iPhone 5 will have to keep going for another year. I doubt iOS 11 will support it, so I will consider my options then, including Android.

So sad that Apple have abandoned the optimum phone size.

I thought they would do a footnote update on the SE's storage to 32GB when they announced the new minimums on the iPhone. Wouldn't be the first time for a mid-cycle storage change on a model.

If the iPhone 8 is bezel free as rumoured, the 4.7" iPhone 8 will be about the same size as the 4" iPhone SE. No need to keep it around.

Not true.

It's not just the phone size, it's the screen size. The great thing about the 4" screen is that you can reach all corners with one hand. With 4.7" of screen, you won't be able to do that. And when the back button tends to be in the top left corner, that becomes a real pain.

A lot of people I know have an iPhone 5s or 6 and I'm still on the 6 myself. I even still see the odd 4s floating about. There's a lot of iPhone owners out there due for a new phone soon so if Apple make a proper "new" phone I imagine there'll be a lot of people tempted to upgrade.

They might choose to do a "one step behind" thing again, like with the iPhone 5C.
You didn't get the memo. The 5C was Apples last 32-bit phone which means no content blocking, no night shift. It's "one era of computing behind", not one step. The SE is the exact opposite, all the current tech except a 3D Touch screen. They didn't even stint with the RAM.
Random thought, but it's interesting that the SE has very similar internals as the 6s, but it still has a headphone jack with 27% less area inside. One of their excuses for removing it on the iPhone 7 was that they needed the space, but they were somehow able to keep it on a smaller SE.
The SE is the bigger phone on z-height. It also doesn't have a protruding camera because of that. And it's not a new design, it doesn't have a bigger more power-hungry screen and no Taptic Engine. So there is enough room inside the phone for good battery life and a headphone jack.

Refresh SE?!!!!???? Make it a fourth generation iPhone 5??? How stupid does Apple think its customers are? Customers want an all new brand new 4 inch design!
Not compromised crap designed in California.
Tim Cook and the greedy execs messed up royally when they decided to not update iPhone in 4-inch when iPhone 6 was released. They pissed off a lot of customers. Some left to android. They're pissing off a lot of customers also with non existent Mac updates, the dongle mess, Sierra running slow on 2015/2016 MacBooks, a totally ship LG display.
How can the direction of the company be so messed up in such a short amount of time considering the huge resources it has?
Out to lunch?
Answer the call, Apple.

Too bad - it's the best designed iPhone and only phone that is comfortable to hold without putting an ugly case on.

Still deal with hand pain on my 7 but I just live with it. Weighed the 7 against the SE but it's just too much of a downgrade in terms of internals.

I call the SE Steve's phone. Everything else is Tim's. And Steve's rules.
I sold my 6 for the SE even though I had 128 gig on it.
SE is definitely Steve's design and the best of all. It still has a headphone jack and drives my Sennheisers perfectly. Battery life is great and it fits in tight jeans pockets without fear of bending. 4" is the perfect smartphone size, for everything more I go to to my cellular iPad mini 2.

Maybe they want to release a redesigned new iPhone in 3 sizes in fall 2017?

Still, the iPhone 5/5s/SE is still my all-time favorite iPhone design.

I think the SE is priced and placed amongst the line-up in such a way that they could have introduced the exact same phone in March 2017 and it would still be an attractive proposition anyway.

I would love a story about how Mac Pro hasn't been updated for a whole 7 months and might not even get an update a whole 1 year after release!

and that is one of the reasons why SE is a dead man walking. No more jacks around

Honestly, the SE is great. Battery life is fantastic, it's plenty fast, reasonably priced and I can use it one-handed without compromises. Maybe the faster touch-Id, 3D touch and barometer would be cool in a refreshed version.

Those early non selling/refurb/returned IPhones 4,4s,5,5s have been cut into thin strips and pasted on the new MacBook Pro. That's why those magical courageous Touch ID strips make the mcbkpro 500$ More expensive

get rid of it, the screen size to too cramped now with all the UI elements that have been added.

Need it with 3D Touch!
I believe this is way they don't launch sooner, even if you remove the headphone jack and put the Apple Watch Taptic Engine, you don't have internal space, they need a complete new internals.
