I'm so sick of Apple's new "we want you to buy said device so we're going to make it the only option" policy. They've been doing this a lot lately. Just give us the products we want, dang it!

Interesting but not surprising. I have a SE and I don't see the need to buy a new one next year. A newer generation won't boost sales.
Same here. I bought it with the intent to keep it for about 3 years and then decide if "peak iPhone" has occurred and it's time to jump ship or if Apple can surprise me again.

Tim Cook is to Apple what Steve Ballmer was to Microsoft.
What Apple's board needs now is to find the next Satya Nadella.

I've had an iPhone 5s for two years. The battery life is getting worse (not sure if it's from it being two years old or the iOS updates over the years). It's also slower than when I got it (definitely software). I don't need a new phone, but if I were to get one, it would be the iPhone SE for a little better battery life and speed. I'm too cheap, though.

The newest iOS 10 updates shot mine to hell. I upgraded to an iPhone 7+ (lol), but I would've kept with the 5S if it weren't for those problems. It served me well for 3 years. Battery drained for no reason, delays, just clearly them getting me to upgrade. They won -_-

Refresh SE?!!!!???? Make it a fourth generation iPhone 5??? How stupid does Apple think its customers are? Customers want an all new brand new 4 inch design!
Not compromised crap designed in California.
Tim Cook and the greedy execs messed up royally when they decided to not update iPhone in 4-inch when iPhone 6 was released.

Actually, at least speaking for myself, I don't want a brand new design, just upgrade to the internals. The design is flawless.

This can't be said about the 6/7: e.g. power switch on the side is horrible - EVERY TIME when I intend to press the power button on my 6s, I also press the volume buttons and vice versa, because you naturally hold the phone (and thus press buttons) on both sides when exerting force on one of them. Power button on the top of the phone is the correct placement.

BTW: going to buy 3 SE's this christmass, for my family and for myself switching from 6s to the much more comfortable smaller size. And hey, audio jack is also there! :)

It's obvious, they launch new SE/iPhone 8/8 plus in the same event, maybe rebranding the SE (maybe they call in ipod or iPhone classic)

The actual SE is a amazing phone and they """don't """ need upgrade until 2018, but is different from computer and laptops, iPhone is a more important brand and if they don't upgrade in next year this hurts even more the Apple brand.

I plan to buy an SE this november. I hope there hasn't been any component quality reduction in, e.g. the NAND Flash, to be able to reduce the price on the 64GB version, which is the one I'll buy.

I hope to get a MLC Nand Flash, and a TSMC SoC.
Fingers crossed
I had an iPhone 6S and it had the TSMC chip, returned it soon after because I didn't like the size.. My SE came with the Samsung chip :(

we dont need iphone SE anymore if apple can come out with something like 4.7" or 5" screen phone with a body smaller than the iphone 7. just like sony xperia compact for reference. sweet.

The iPhone SE's purpose was (is) to win over the iP4(s) holdouts, and to present the iP5(s) users with an upgrade path. Thus it makes sense from Apple's perspective to have it on a 2(+) yr update cycle.

iPhone SE is a great budget phone,I love mine it's the best looking iPhone than any other iPhone model, hope they keep refreshing it
Same here this is my first time ever owning an iPhone and I'm glad I made the switch. I love this design over 6/6s and definitely more then the 7 plus. I'm wondering about the upgrade cycle wouldn't it just be better for them to upgrade it when the iPhone 8 comes out that way their would be no more 6s but they could still update the se to 7 internals. Maybe the water proofing 3d touch 128 GB , better selfie camera , higher resolution screen. But keep the head jack and the home button? Maybe even bump the screen size to 4.2?

Replacing the battery on a 5/5S is super easy. I've done it on my iPhone 5 and it's like new. iOS 10 runs quite smooth too.

They will probably keep the current version of the iPhone SE until next Sept then kill it off when the iPhone 8 launches. Then replace the SE with a version of the iPhone 6, 6s or 7 as the cheaper entry level model.

thats ok, SE with A9/2GB on an 1136x640 screen SCREAMS performance

I've been happy with mine :D

My thoughts exactly. An A10 is not going to bring noticeable performance changes on this phone. Better camera (indoor/low light) would be nice, but the camera is great outdoors and shooting 4K video so I'm satisfied. Love this phone.

Getting emotional about a date change is worse.

95% chance that Apple announces 3 sizes next fall, including a size in the SE range. It's just not going to come in the spring like the original SE did. Calm down.

Reaching to the top of a phone the size of the 6/7 or especially the plus models to push the power button is just not comfortable for most people's hands. This is why literally no phone larger than 4" has it there. I've never had a problem with hitting the volume at the same time. My natural grip on the phone when pressing the power button with my thumb has my index finger on the back of the phone and my other fingers well below the volume controls. I think this is how the phone is meant to naturally fit in the hand of a right handed person. Only if I grip it in my left do I find that when pressing the power with my index finger my thumb rests on or near the volume, but I can still easily press the former without pressing the latter.

Not surprised. I was expecting it to be on a 2 year cycle, so in 2018 we get a new SE with iPhone 7S or 8 internals

No surprises. They do semi-affordable things once in a while, but they're a bait-and-switch to get you into the ecosystem and moving on to higher margin products later, and only come around once every few years at best.

I'd love to the SE get a price cut in 1H 2017. It is a fine phone with good specs for 2017 because of the CPU. I love the form factor. If my 6S were to be dropped/lost I'd definitely consider the SE over the 7. And if such a sad event were to happen in, say March 2017, I'd most likely buy the SE to tide me over until the 8 gets released.

That said, a price cut would be acknowledgement of price of competitor products and it would grow the Apple user base.

Oh man! I'm in the same situation, I'm currently testing a 6S with TSMC chip, and I'm going to return it for an SE because I can't deal with this huge size and weight. I just can't get used to it, I come from a 4,5" Moto G, which is a bit smaller and lighter, but man, the 6 is so slippery! And the silicon case is so bulky. I miss the size of my iPhone 4S, and I think the 5/5C/5S/SE has the best smartphone form factor ever.

Really, really hope to be lucky. If the screen is not yellow and the button is not clicky, like my current 6S, I'll keep it. If screen is bad -I have a noticeable dead pixel on the screen of this 6S-, or the button clicky plus Samsung chip, I'll exchange it for another.
