What? Have you looked at the size of the bezel?
Take a 4.7" screen and superimpose it over an iPhone SE. It fits.

If, as rumoured, Apple is removing the space for the home button below the screen and incorporating it via 3D Touch into the screen itself, you can eliminate most of the chin and the forehead while stretching the screen to the edges on each side.

Voila: you have an iPhone about the size of the iPhone SE with a screen the size of the iPhone 7's. No need for 2 different phones.

Maybe they've decided that they can make more profit with less revenue by not doing any R&D. Their profit margins for Macs have to be increasing as they get older since they're selling old parts for the price of new ones, right?

Just one little problem with your theory- Apple spends more on R and D than most all companies in the entire world. Just in the last two years they will have spent over $20 billion dollars in R and D. Yes, I know it never occurred to you that the most successful consumer product company ever, the most valuable company on the planet, the company that has set the world record for revenue and profits would consider putting money into research and development.

Back to the drawing board for you.

Yup. "whining" is a statement of dissatisfaction....and rightly so. Me too. I don't get those people who tells us to "stop whining." It is indeed a forum.

Well said. I loathe the way the word 'whining' is often used in place of an actual substantive argument against people's criticisms. It's essentially as meaningless and empty as saying 'yeah well... you suck!' And is little better than trolling IMHO.

The irony of complaining about people complaining is pretty funny though (and yes, I'm aware of the irony of me complaining about a particular way some people complain about other people intially complaining! :D).

After a nice whining....guess what? Apple gave discount. Now....about free macs..... :D

miss the old apple with Steve Jobs, when we wouldn't even have to worry about hearing an article detailing how apple is getting more desperate and greedy as every day passes on . . .

Shame it's not getting a refresh. I mean, you'd think Cookie and the boys would at least take a minute to get rid of that ghastly headphone jack...

If this is true it really stinks. I want excited by the iPhone 6 size but I really want the 4" factor. I've long since lost the phablet fascination and I want an iPhone 7 in the smaller factor. The sales of the SE seem to back me up that they really need it and people want it.

Too bad - it's the best designed iPhone and only phone that is comfortable to hold without putting an ugly case on.

Still deal with hand pain on my 7 but I just live with it. Weighed the 7 against the SE but it's just too much of a downgrade in terms of internals.

I call the SE Steve's phone. Everything else is Tim's. And Steve's rules.

Hand pain?! Do you have a case that is lined with spikes or poison ivy? It's a fuggin phone not a piece of torture equipment. If you're in pain from holding a phone, you should go see a doctor.

If Apple does not refresh the iPhone SE, then releasing a 4-inch flagship iPhone in September would be a logical decision. However, the CEO of Apple is Tim Cook, a man who is allergic to making logical decisions.

Who even makes a flagship 4" nowdays! You guys seen to be stuck in the past! Smartphones are all about big glorious display nowdays. Miniature displays seem to attract minority.

If there is not a new Apple phone in the 4 to 4.3 inch screen size in 2017...Then Apple does not get my $$$ in 2017.
Oh really? I guess Tim Cook will contact you by mail next week and then he'll create a task force to build the product you'd like to buy.

Lol what Steve? Steve "Mobile Me" or Steve "Avoid holding it that way"?
Or maybe you mean Steve "I finally cracked it" (yeah, sure...)
Please stop this stupid idealization of a man who did many things wrong and had a few really great hits.

I am a man with big hands, typing on that small phone is pita.
It's good that it is there for people who want it but to me the best designed is the 4.7 inch.

Ok, so what's the price of this phone then? $399 or $649?

Like I stated earlier, 89% of smartphones shipped in the last qtr were android. Now you are going to remove the most economical iPhone there is?

Maybe, seeing as Apple turned their backs on the lowest end of the price spectrum, With the ridiculous price increases and unasked for tool bar for the MBP.

I absolutely love my SE and would have been surprised if they refreshed it already given the market niche. Hopefully, they eventually come out with a follow-up with 128GB and maybe 3D touch - but I'm not holding my breath nor feeling I'm missing out.

I still think the SE is the best iPhone out right now.

Got my SE just a couple of weeks ago, and my girlfriend got a 6s today. Both great phones that will *definitely* last longer than a couple of years. Poor MacRumours spreading such nonsense.

Yah, quit spreading that silliness. Anyone that doesn't put a case on is asking for heartbreak.
Wait, so you're saying the bad design of the phone doesn't matter because "you're going to put a case on it anyway"? In that case, they should just make the body out of high-impact plastic since it's going to be covered up anyway, right?

My 6+ caused me hand pain, but that's from trying to use it one handed. Bad idea.

I'm much happier with a 7. I can use it one handed without issue.
