Maybe y'all mini lovers should have bought 3 phones each lol but nah you all wanted pro features at SE prices

Seriously though maybe Apple can consider alternate between Pluses, SEs and minis.

SE users are budget conscious and many SEs are sold as company phones. Plus buyers are not the type looking for newest toy every year. Neither are not yearly upgraders so we might make some room for you.

I get the impression many minis users might want yearly upgrade but at this point you better settle for every few years if Apple will even do that.

Upsetting? Really? It’s just a phone. Don’t buy it if it doesn’t suit you. It’s not the end of the world.
Phones are a big part of people's lives; we spend hours on them each day. Those of us who prefer smaller phones will at some point have to upgrade. And many of us really appreciate the Apple ecosystem, so it will be difficult.

Imagine if mattress manufacturers stopped making firm mattresses.

I'll switch to a dumb flip phone before I buy one of these monstrosities.
I'll join you.

I already hate how big my 15 is, I only tolerate the size cause the phone is great otherwise and I know I'm not alone in this. Honestly I'd probably return it if I hadn't already ordered a bunch of cute cases for it lol, it's been over a month now and I still haven't gotten used to the size(coming from an SE3). If I already need to use two hands with my 6.1" phone, why on earth would I buy an iPhone 16, 17, 18, etc if they're just going to keep getting bigger and bigger? I don't want to leave Apple, but if they keep throwing bricks at me I'll have no choice.

I don't want a phablet and I don't care about pro features. Never even used them when I had a pro. All I want is a current phone that doesn't completely suck spec-wise and doesn't take two hands. The pro max and plus exist for those who do like big phones, so just keep one small phone for the rest of us who don't enjoy forcing ourselves to adapt to something that's uncomfortable to use just to stay in the ecosystem.

I miss when iPhones consisted of a small one(like, actually small!) and a big one in various colors and everyone was happy.

I see a lot PM iPhones out in the wild, mostly by petite women with them sticking out of their pocket. So somebody is buying the larger phones and it’s not just them. I love my 15 Pro Max over my 12 Pro. I’m getting the largest phone from here on out.

6.9" may be quite big. Hopefully the increase in weight will be less. Looking forward to all the iPhone 16 rumours in 2024

Next year's iPhone 16 could feature a more power-efficient display thanks to a new OLED material set that is reportedly being developed by Samsung specifically for Apple.

I would buy 8" display iPhone. They should offer 3 simple display sizes:
  • 6"
  • 7"
  • 8"
The Ring Holder og grip strap would still allow for a single-hand operation:

That wasn’t Steve, that was Jony Ive. The Apple released the thinnest iPhone ever, the 6, long after Steve was gone. Most of Apple’s thinnest and lightest products came after Steve (12” MacBook, 2016-2020 13/15/16” MBP, 24” iMac, iPad Air). All of these products were flawed in some ways to attain said thinness; the iPhone 6 bent, the 12” MacBook was painfully underpowered, the MBPs were too powerful/hot for their chassis, etc. Apple lately has been balancing form and function sacrificing thinness and weight for better performance. Steve was also quite good at balancing Jonny’s extreme design tendencies with real world usability needs.
I remember watching Steve himself unveil the MacBook Air.

I'm guessing he had a hand in the development of the iPhone 5 and 6.

To be honest, Apple should just re-design the phone to get rid of the camera bump on the back. Fill the space with extra battery.

iPhone Sizes: A Brief History
  • iPhone 6S to iPhone 8 (2015-2017): The iPhone 6S, 7, and 8 series continued with the same size variants as their predecessors, 4.7 inches for the regular models and 5.5 inches for the Plus models.
  • iPhone X and Beyond (2017-present): With the introduction of the iPhone X in 2017, Apple shifted to a new design paradigm, reducing bezels and introducing notch-based displays. The iPhone X had a 5.8-inch screen, which was a middle ground between the two previous sizes.
Wait, how is 5.8" the middle ground between 4.7" and 5.5"?

The phone may have been smaller than the Plus, but the screen was larger. Just like the mini screen was larger than the SE, despite the phone itself being smaller. In this case though, the numbers were actually in the text, so this seems like it should have been really obvious.

But if you get rid of the camera bump, you get rid of the space.

Unfolding to an iPad Mini? This type of folding iPhone could actually run iOS when folded and iPadOS when unfolded. It wouldn’t be the first time an Apple device ran two separate operating systems, if we remember that certain MacBooks ran macOS and bridgeOS. The main problem with a folding iPhone is that it would have to be thicker and heavier to maintain structural integrity.
Well there is a model out now that is shockingly thin. Can’t remember the name of it, but I think when Apple are ready to release a Fold, the thickness won’t be an issue.

edit…
Here’s one, but not the one I was thinking of….thinner & lighter than a 15 PM…

Here’s the one I’m thinking of.

Very exciting products imo. Apple have been patiently waiting for a preferred form factor to emerge, & they will pounce at the right time, with what I think will be a very desirable folding product.

My iPhone 13 Mini is already bigger than I would like it to be. My iPhone SE 1st generation was the perfect size. I wish they would have kept the case and just put in an edge to edge display. As soon as the 13 Mini isn’t supported any longer and Apple doesn’t have a replacement equal or smaller in size I will have to go back to Android phones again or no phone at all.

I would be perfectly fine if Apple offers and updated mini iPhone with a first gen iPhone SE size every five or six years after iOS support ends for the old model. As it’s looking now we will never see anything as small as this unless smartphones get obsoleted by some other tech. I would even be fine if the Apple Watch would be the replacement with a remote keyboard and all day battery life. Not gonna happen though.

What I mean is that some people I know probably would have bought a new phone by now judging from the state of their device but they like the form factor so much that they'd rather keep using it for as long as possible, since there is nothing they can upgrade to at that size.

But I agree that a phone should easily last 4-5 syears. I get the battery replaced then give my 3 year old phones to my parents and they easily get another 3 years out of them, often totaling 6 years for an iPhone.
But if that’s the reason, why didn’t they replace it with a 13 Mini, when they had the chance, to get more longevity from it? Or even get the screen replaced if that’s what’s broken? It’s more likely that they simply don’t want to replace their phone too often, even if it’s battered, regardless of the size. I see people using broken phones all the time, of any model or size. I think you are extrapolating things that aren’t necessarily true.

Please, stop increasing the weight and the size of the phone, walking with a 15 Pro in the pocket sometimes feels like walking with a brick in the pants.

For the people who are being condescending towards those of us who think it is big enough...

Why does it bother you if there is an option for people who prefer "smaller" phones? I have no issue with Apple offering a Max edition that is getting into tablet territory. Anyone who enjoys that, good for them and I hope they continue to have the option.

If you want it to be bigger, odds are you already have a Max anyway so why do you care if the rest of us have an option we prefer?

I’m not sure how Steve would have approached larger iPhones, but he likely would have considered one hand usability. Tim on the other hand considers dollar signs.

This is getting out of hand.
Was this a pun? And they will continue to get bigger to have something different/bigger to sell each year. Apple is no longer doing what makes sense, but what makes cents. Hardware is more important than software at this point. I'm thinking of getting the Xperia at this point and downloading Unbuntu Touch on it, as you can at least get a narrow phone that you can hold in your hand that doesn't use Android.

Why broken/beaten up? My perfectly functioning, non-broken and non-beaten up 13 Mini is only 2 years old. I’m perfectly happy with using it for a couple of years more. With the way smartphones have been maturing, normal people should replace their phone every 4-5 years, not every two years or even every year. The habit of replacing the phone every year is unhealthy.

My thoughts exactly. Telephone companies keep on advertising that you can get new phone next year, and meanwhile they also are pretending being "green" and good for the environment. Right...sales are always more important.

I must say that the industry does make it harder to use a phone for a long period of time. While the bare electronics can work easily for 10 or even 25 years, you still have to replace it eventually: either due to the lack of replacement batteries, wireless standards that the phone supports are abolished or software that simply stops working.

That is very exciting, and a beautiful phone. However, there is no way I would pay that much money for something so easily damaged by a fingernail: OnePlus Open Durability Test - JerryRigEverything

I can’t wait for that inner screen technology to be more durable, I’d love to use one of those. Perhaps Apple is waiting for someone to improve the durability?
