Working virtually next door to an Apple store doesn't help me get an upgrade to my existing iPhone - it just makes me more annoyed to know I'm within shouting distance of a big pile of phones I can't buy.

I feel with you :) I got into shouting distance as well. I even walked across from the retail store with an Apple chap to an O2 store and tried to get them into me bringing the phone over from the apple shop and then upgrade...just to hit a wall of "can't do".

<rant>
In the age of networked IT, why can an Apple retailer setup a new contract and not be able to upgrade an existing one, since you would think later would be much more easier, since all credit checks and details are already processed...i mean last time I did all the setup on my own with iTunes, why is it so difficult to give the apple retail shops the possibility to upgrade.

In Germany we have these jokes about "Schildbürger" (militia citizen), who use to carry the light in sacks into a dark room to brighten it up, who throw out a candle with a stone and then light a match to see if its extinguished, who drill a second hole into a boat to get the water out from the first hole...ahhhh"
</rant>

I better do something productive today then thinking about the infinite foolishness of certain companies :)

dude, chill. they could barely set up new contracts, let alone anything else.

what does it matter if you have to wait two or three days. you have an iPhone already. the 3g is slightly different (arguably worse) - its not like you'll keel over having to wait a week for one.

Saturday evening?!
You lucky lad..:)
I phoned them on Saturday afternoon. Said that they'd keep one aside for me but that there's no point coming to their store since their systems were down. He said he would ring me once they were up again. He did, and I drove down to Dewsbury and walked out of the store with a brand new iPhone. It took only 15 mins, and I was the only customer in the store :)

Haha, yes, I am chilling, I even would not upgrade if my area had better Edge coverage, since the old iPhone ist just nice looking to me, but since I mainly use the data plan with the phone 3G seems a good upgrade.

And its not to wait for a number of days, its just that total nonsense gets me off, like carpets in bathrooms :)

...And since O2 seems not to sell the white iPhone widely, it looks like its impossible to get it as upgrade, a viscous circle!... anyway, will phone Sheffield stores till they have a white phone :)

If I remember correctly, I was told by CW in Lincoln that they werent expected to receive the White iPhone till September/October.

Considering that they only have a couple of 16GB Blacks to start with, it wouldn't surprise me.

I ordered a 16GB phone from O2 last Monday. Because I had to endure the credit check my order wasn't released until they were out of stock on Thursday. Anyone have any leads on when I might expect my order to arrive? Or at least when O2 might have another shipment coming in?

most people have been told they're getting new stock on thursday for a friday delivery (though I was told they're actually receiving the stock on the friday)

as anyone got a clue when CPW orders (ment to come on friday 11th) are ment to be coming?
im off school (early summer holidays) and just sitting at home, i want it to be here sooner!

I got speaking to the manager of the limavady o2 store here in northern ireland and said they haven't received any emails about new stock yet but suggested trying later in the week. So as others are saying i'm guessing Thursday or Friday.

Just out of curiousity, what do you need to buy from the Apple Store, is it same as o2 with you needed a proof of address and two forms of ID?

Called Apple store in Sheffield this morning and a staff told me that they still have stocks apart from the Black 16G one which is also the one i'm chasing for..Gutted..

So guys who wants Black 8G or White 16G still can go there to get one.

just asked in O2 in Notting Hill Gate and told to try again on Friday.
Saw someone being served with one in CPW though.

Thanks for the info. It's the most common _rumor_ I've heard so perhaps there's some truth in it

Acording to the o2 store near me they will have 8gb iphone stock tomorrow (tuesday) and 16gb stock thursday/friday.

Just been on the phone to O2 CS after getting an update to my online order and was told they are expecting a delivery on Friday and I asked how that can be right when mine would be couriered by Friday (exact words in the text were "It'll be couriered by 18 July") and they stated it was a guideline date and I should receive it Monday. I obviously asked if this would definately be the case to which he replied "not definately" and I asked if they could reserve it in the store as I would then have to take another day off work for this and he also said no to that. I am trying so hard to not take it out on the CS people but they don't make it easy for themselves, he said that the text message was sent before they ran out of stock when the text message starts by saying they are out of stock. Just wish I knew who to contact to get some acknowledgement on the problems just simply to know that they aren't ignoring me (which I have no doubt they will be) and that things are being done to address these problems (mainly lack of information about orders and stock)

So to cut a long post short, more stock on Friday.

I don't think it's entirely O2's fault, it sounds to me like they're being let down with their supply of 16GB phones. Still doesn't make me any less annoyed that I'm probably not going to get my new phone until next week now.

I hate to point out the obvious, but the website says that they're getting deliveries weekly, and considering that the last shipment would have been thursday for sale on friday, one would assume that it would be Thursday for Friday sales...

I went to my local O2 Shop and they said that they didnt know when they were having more in, but they had 5 on display! I wanted just to rip the cord and leg it! I saw the queue on Friday and couldnt be bothered to stand and wait in the rain for it, so just went to work and had a cup of tea.

they started shipping them on wednesday so one would assume they received them on wednesday at the latest

Just got a white one from Southampton Apple store. They said they were still quite well stocked. Also, the girl that served me had the same name as my girlfriend! Weird.

iPhone 3G UK stock

Apple Store at Lakeside in Essex has plenty of black 8Gb & white 16Gb in stock - but 'for new customers only.!'

Wow never met a girl called Weird and you know two of them! :D

I can't believe the black 16GB is proving hard to get. We need a swaps board - London based sealed black 16GB seeks similarly based sealed white 16GB...

Only the stupidity of the whole situation is stopping me cancelling the supposed order that I have with o2 (duck the flying pigs). But I don't want sodding black, I WANT WHITE!

I'm going to Kingston tomorrow where I know they'll have a shelf full of white but I'm only a lowly upgrader so I can't sodding have one!

I dont really get why Apple Stores cant upgrade... from what I've read its the same as last year, that it needs to be activated through Apple's servers. I can understand that new customers need to sign a contract at point of sale, to stop unlockers and that, but upgraders already have a contract, therefore are already tied to O2 in the first place! O2 should have allowed upgraders to get an iPhone anywhere and let iTunes deal with the rest, and then spent more time signing up new iPhoners to their contracts. Wasted resources IMO!
