I dont really get why Apple Stores cant upgrade... from what I've read its the same as last year, that it needs to be activated through Apple's servers. I can understand that new customers need to sign a contract at point of sale, to stop unlockers and that, but upgraders already have a contract, therefore are already tied to O2 in the first place! O2 should have allowed upgraders to get an iPhone anywhere and let iTunes deal with the rest, and then spent more time signing up new iPhoners to their contracts. Wasted resources IMO!

You have a contract with O2 which doesn't expire for some time yet. Apple has no authority to end that contract.

Although apple have been given authority to use their systems (when signing a contract), IMO I think they will not allow upgraders because the staff in the apple store don't know how, not they can't.

it's a shame there are no apple stores anywhere in wales...

Apple... Why is there not one in Cardiff, the capital of wales? London and Edingburgh have one.

Stopped by O2 store in London (city). Stock expected next week only. I am almost certain they prefer not to tell the exact date to avoid queues :)

02 are useless for giving the date of when.. all they say is "later this week"

Will apple stores do a security deposit? I'm a student without any credit history...

When I was a student, I had credit thrown at me from all angles, especially mobile phone contracts. I wouldnt worry about not having any credit history.

stick with what you've got

waited in line friday for 2 hours, got a 8gig 3G.
Gave my old 16gig to my son, now swapping back for my old one or selling my 3G.
Dont need 3G, looks cheap, can be sluggish, what a waste of £99.
Stick with your old ones, dont be misslead by all the hype.

As far as I know, this is only applicable to people who have already ordered (and paid) for an iPhone for home delivery via CW but have not had their orders fulfilled yet - new stock is expected either tomorrow or Thurs.

Sold my old 8gb for £250... not regretting it one bit.

Love the phone and I'm 150 quid up!

Come on 02 and CPW! move your bloody derriere and give us the frigging white 16G! NOW!!!

This. It's pretty shoddy that Apple Stores appear to be up to their ears in iPhones of all colours, and yet O2 have none at all, and don't seem to expect the white one any time soon.

It seems there is little concrete information. Calling in and phoning my local O2 store gets a different answer each time. "We'll probably get some on Friday" "definitely some on Thursday" "next week" etc. etc. I really don't think the O2 stores have a clue when they will be getting more stock. I can understand that but I wish if that is the case they would just say "don't know".

This is all doubly annoying as I was at the Meadowhall Apple Store on Friday and whilst they had loads (apparently) they couldn't sell them. Meadowhall is a good two hours from me and I don't think I'll have chance to go there for another two weeks or so.

I'm starting to think it may be late August before stock is more plentiful - before anyone pounces on this it is just idle speculation by me ;)

Well the o2 website does say they "customers who want iPhone 3G will get one by the end of this summer" so i would say you aint far off in your estimation.

I also get the same vibe about stock updates this week, when I tried ringing they just said they hadn't received a stock email yet so they could only assume the end of the week. The sad thing is if this is the case, they could get them in at anytime and so just pot luck if you're in at the shop at the right time. :(

Humph - annoying isn't it? Trouble is that after all the conflicting signals I don't really trust what O2 are saying at all...

Couldn't say for sure, but the procedures for taking a deposit where on a piece of paper next to the workstation in Regent St. where I got mine.

ive been told yesterday at o2 that they will be having new shipments this week, just dont know exactly when.
great.
Im tempted to get the train to meadowhall on friday, make a day of it, and get the 16gb in black.

Sorry to say that Apple is penalizing the UK and totally screwing the dedicated people that got the 1st gen. We jumped in first and now we are screwed because we can not upgrade at the Apple stores (and they are keeping all the stock). I'm rather pissed off for the lack of loyalty to us morons that spread the word in the first place. Then again I'm an idiot for even caring about the stuff. Next time I'll get two frigging cans with a string.

I completely agree. I'm 30 mins away from Apple stores in Milton Keynes and Birmingham, both with 16gb White and Black phones, and absolutely none at CPW and O2 where I live.

I can't get a new one because I have months on my old one left, yet all that loyalty to O2, buying the phone, getting the contract and the rest, and I'm stuck with f-all.

Add to that I use .Mac (MobileMe), which has toasted my web site that I have hosted with Apple (I pay for that privilege), and this is turning into a nightmare of an Apple week for me.

Apple, you are losing this fanboy rapidly.
