This is easy.

Go visit the girl in person - with the press in tow.

Don't give an exclusive, but line-up at least one TV station to be there for sure, and give them "front of line" privileges. Send out invitations to the rest of the press.

And then one more special invitation - this one goes to the public relations contact for the local police department.

I can see it now. The guy from How to Catch a Predator knocks on her door. That alone would scare the crap out of me. "I see you have a barely one month old iPhone 4 that's not yours." She runs and is tackled by 2 police officers.

I called again today and gave them every bit of information I knew about the girl. The woman on the phone told me that a detective had been assigned to my case, and that I should hear from him/her within one to seven days. I've had stuff stolen from me before and the police weren't much help, but I'm hoping that they can do something this time. I'm not holding my breath, though.

This is a no-brainer for a detective. There's more than enough info to go off of for them to validate whether or not she has your phone. I am going to be really disappointed (probably not as much as you though) if this doesn't come to a good resolution for you.

She doesn't live in Houston, but she does live in Texas. We were both at the Houston airport, but I was only there for a layover. I would post her Facebook, but she is underage and I'm not sure if posting her info could cause any problems for me.

My god just go to the police with what you have. Better yet, get an attorney to send a letter. That'll scare her.

Thanks to the help of a very nice member on these forums, I now have even more information about the thief and her parents. I imagine I will call the police tomorrow when they're open and add the (previously unknown) address to the police report. Once I make sure I have the correct address, of course.

Thanks so much, helpful forum poster! <3

LOL.

EDIT: Double post. Sorry.

So, what is the update with this?

I am sure if you present enough evidence, they can probably get a search warrant from a magistrate.

OP, too bad you're a good person it seems.

I would have honestly posted her full name in those pics, and maybe her number, because I know there are those of us here that would love to help torment her on your behalf. It's the principle of the thing.

But then again, I'm a douche.

Good luck in resolving this.

As of now, I've given police the name, telephone number and picture of the girl who took the phone. Tomorrow, once I confirm the home address of the girl, I plan on adding that to the report, too.

I appreciate the thought! :)

Since shes complaining about not being able to use it on sprint, make a fake facebook acct that unlocks iPhones for sprint and the tell her you'll unlock it for 10.00. and you pay for shipping both ways.;)

you should just go over there and say "Oh thank you so much for finding my phone, you're really did the right thing adding me on facebook so I could come get it back, YOU'RE A LIFE SAVER!!!" then she'll feel so bad and either give it back or slam the door in your face and then you call the cops :)

She dun goofed, you backtracked her. Order 100 pizzas to her house, consequences will never be the same.

People are so dumb

This is absolutely hilarious to everyone except the OP and the girl who took the phone.

OP send this to CNN or something news stations these days love to talk about idiots on facebook.

You could be on TV!

anyone else find it interesting that the OP and Kassie both use

-_-

not many people do this...much less both of the parties we are talking about.

I love being investigator....

Holy crap, just read through all 11 pages.

Dude, crush her. Or get you're phone back at least.
If you can't get the phone back with all of this evidence even, then I have honestly lost all hope for the reliability of the police department. Good luck, let us know every detail.
