Apple reportedly plans to unveil its long-awaited foldable iPhone in September, and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has revealed the device's supposed price range.

Apple's foldable iPhone is rumored to be named iPhone Ultra

In a report this week, Gurman said the foldable iPhone is expected to "cross the $2,000 threshold" in the U.S., although it is unclear if he is referring to the starting price or if only some configurations will surpass that price point.

In any case, the foldable iPhone will undoubtedly be the most expensive iPhone ever. Currently, Apple's most expensive iPhone model is the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which costs $1,999 in the U.S. when configured with a maximum 2TB of storage.

If the foldable iPhone does start at $1,999, the device might cost as much as $2,799 with 2TB of storage, based on iPhone 17 Pro Max price tiers.

It was recently rumored that the foldable iPhone will be named iPhone Ultra. Apple already uses Ultra branding for the Apple Watch Ultra, CarPlay Ultra, and the M1 Ultra, M2 Ultra, and M3 Ultra series of chips for the Mac Studio.

The foldable iPhone is expected to open up like a book, providing users with a large screen for watching videos, playing games, and multitasking. The device will reportedly have a 7.7-inch inner display and a 5.3-inch outer display, two rear cameras, one front camera, and a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID. It was initially rumored that the device would have a virtually "crease-free" inner display, but it was later reported that Apple is using technology that "reduces the crease without eliminating it entirely."

People want bigger phones every year, meanwhile I want smaller phones and smaller iPads.

Double the cost of a Pro iPhone is crazy for a product that I'd argue is a worse user experience than a smaller phone, but what do I know. 😛

I'm ok with it starting out at $2K. What I'm not ok with is the passport style design. I won't be buying it for that reason alone - and this is coming from someone who has been wanting a folding iPhone since the Samsung Fold first debuted. I want the folded form factor of a Pro Max. That is when I will drop $2K on one.

My guess is they try to stay at the top of premium, but only offer 1 or 2 storage tiers. Samsung has already proven people will pay $1999, so why go that low? $2199 for the phone, AppleCare+ goes up to $189/yr, and the cases are $199.

I think only 3 people in the US have bought an iPhone with 2TB of storage...
I have 256GB on my 17 Pro Max for $1199, and IF I run out of space, it goes in my 2TB iCloud for $10 a month...
This article make it look like the iPhone ultra will be too expensive and it's not realistic.
If you think that 90% of the population sees smart phones basically as an extension of their bodies, the price is not that expensive. People stop going out to dinner and movies or getting expensive clothes to own a flagship phone instead.
The high price is irrelevant.. People will pay anything to get one and it will shift the foldable market for all the others as well.

Good luck with those sales globally… including taxes and exchange rate protections in many countries the price will be closer to $2700 USD and even over $3000 in several countries.

Unlikely to be that high as the base price. $1499 is likely the sweet spot for a cutting edge phone/tablet thingy that no one knows if they actually need.
Nah, IPhone Pro Max starts at $1200 base storage. I think $2000 is not unreasonable. They overpriced the IPhone Air as well. But, it’s all speculation of course.

I remember how everyone was up in arms over the IPhone X being $1000 and now they want to keep pushing it higher.

It's two iPhone Airs with a hinge, more or less, so no surprise the price will be around that. The price for the larger memory versions may jump more though, with the memory shortage Apple may have to charge up even more than they usually do.

As for Ultra...I came up with and am going to keep calling it the fPhone, it's a totally new thing so deserves a new letter.

…it is crossing the $2000 threshold upwards or downwards. 😉

I wanted the device soooo badly. But I wanted a pro max that opens up along with face id. I’m not going back to touch id
