I call it now. Flop of the year. People think Apple is going give the fold phones new life after folds failed to gain significant market share but I think this phone will be the begging of the end for fold phones just like VP was the beginning of the end for VR headsets.

why would u pay 2,000 for a fake iPad when u can go pro? people never wanted hybrids.

iPhone Ultra's Price Range Revealed

In a report this week, Gurman said the foldable iPhone is expected to "cross the $2,000 threshold" in the U.S., although it is unclear if he is referring to the starting price or if only some configurations will surpass that price point.

If the foldable iPhone does start at $1,999, the device might cost as much as $2,799 with 2TB of storage, based on iPhone 17 Pro Max price tiers.
Nothing was revealed... he's just guessing.
Give a wide enough price range and anyone can be correct, right?

yeah for me the iPhone Fold/Ultra doesnt make sense

I have Pro Max iPhone for $1200 and it has the best battery life and best cameras. even assuming apple puts the exact same main and ultrawide into the fold, it would be still missing the telephoto which i like to use

Then for my main work and entertainment, i have a 14in MBP which i can do so much work on and it has a beautiful 14in display.

Literally for me, i have no use case for an iPad. so a folding iPhone that costs at least $800 more doesnt make sense.

Most likely would save that $800 and put it toward the MacBook Ultra with OLED display if it becomes a step above the current MacBook Pro lineup tbh for me.

But regardless, I'll still be interested in how this fold turns out and user sentiment. I'll definitely visit an apple store to look at it in person. I wonder how apps will handle the new weird squarish aspect ratio of both the main display and inner display. Could this be a situation like the Apple Vision Pro where too few users actually buy this thing and app support will be weak? very interested in that tbh

Price is quite reasonable and in line with Samsung Fold 7.

So why even bother do a fold phone then? They also know the current market share is very small and the fold devices are gimmicky.
Unlike Samsung, which releases these kinds of products mainly to compete with Apple in brand positioning, Apple may actually be interested in stretching its lineup and price segmentation both downward and upward in this case.

An iPhone Pro priced at €/$1,300 won’t seem nearly as expensive when there’s also an iPhone Ultra at €/$2,000.

As a business owner who uses her iPhone and iPad a lot daily, I think this device is probably practical for me. I’d need to be able to extend to an external display with mouse/keyboard support (like how the iPad does it).

To me, it'd be a lot easier if I could just bring one device to work rather than my phone and iPad. My iphone Air screen hits that nice middle-ground where it's fine to use as my personal device and just about good enough for work. I think I’d be using the Fold (or Ultra's) external screen a lot more at home, while taking advantage of the inner screen a lot at work.

If I like it, I think I can get away with it being a business expense.

Apple is going to struggle mightily to move these at a base price over $2000.

Look at all the alternatives at a price point of $2000:

- iPhone Pro + Macbook Air
- iPhone Pro + Macbook Neo + iPad
- iPhone + Macbbook Air + iPad Air
- iPhone 17e + Macbook Pro
- iPhone Air (carrier promo) + Macbook Pro

With sales and promos running almost monthly, you wouldn’t have to put in much effort to get any of those combos for $2000 or less.

Or you can have an iPhone Fold.

A $2,000 smartphone has no real market, and they know it. For that, you already have an iPhone and an iPad.

The only thing that would make sense about spending $2K on a smartphone is if you could use it as a full computer by connecting it to a display.

sooner or later, we’ll get to that all-in-one device.
You can't take an iPad mini, iPad or Mac Book in your pocket... People will pay and it will sell out the first day.

People want bigger phones every year, meanwhile I want smaller phones and smaller iPads.

Double the cost of a Pro iPhone is crazy for a product that I'd argue is a worse user experience than a smaller phone, but what do I know. 😛

I hear ya... they're so big, I wonder why people don't buy an iPad mini instead.
Apple... bring the iPhone mini back!!!

I'd rather wait until they come out with the iPhone Ultra Max with a bigger screen in a couple years. Although honestly the foldable iPhone I'd rather have is a flip style device. That would be the ultimate iPhone for me if it had all the benefits of a Pro Max but could fold in half. Right now if the all the rumors are true it doesn't make sense to be positioned as an Ultra model with compromises on the camera, no Face ID and probably other features.

As long as the phone carriers offer 0% APR financing then it will sell. The American consumer only cares about the upfront price and the monthly payments, not the total price.

My guess is that they start with 512gb and they price it $300 over the Pro Max…. So:

512gb - $1699
1TB - $1899
2TB - $2199

*only $200 over on the 2TB because higher margins

I'm ok with it starting out at $2K. What I'm not ok with is the passport style design. I won't be buying it for that reason alone - and this is coming from someone who has been wanting a folding iPhone since the Samsung Fold first debuted. I want the folded form factor of a Pro Max. That is when I will drop $2K on one.
I was wondering about the pocketability of what they have proposed. It seems pretty uncomfortable.

I think you are getting that though.

At first, I was turned off by the form factor, especially the latest video leaks, but I think I've been looking at it wrong. I think the use cases will end up being that you should hold it vertically when unfolded where it will be just a little bit larger than a Pro Max, and if you're watching video, turn it into the flatter horizontal mode where video will basically fill up the entire screen.

I think you'll still be able to do things like run two apps side by side if you hold it horizontally, but I have a feeling Apple is going to put an emphasis on using it vertically and having a larger screen than a PM for normal usage, while folding down to something smaller you can slip in your pocket.
Google tried the passport form factor with the original Pixel Fold and then quickly reverted to the standard form factor for Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

This form factor is not for me. I DO NOT want a wider/fatter iPhone. I want to be able to hold it in one hand when it's folded and two hands when it's unfolded.

I've already waited this long. I can wait until Apple makes the folding iPhone that I actually want.

Yep, even Apple will and anyone with a recent model will get a few hundred trade in value. You'll go from paying $60 a month for your 17 Pro Max to $95 a month.
