I would be interested in Apple’s version of a fold phone but not at these prices (if the rumors are true). At what point does a phone become too expensive? Without 0% financing and overpaying for a postpaid plan these won’t be available to the masses.

People want bigger phones every year, meanwhile I want smaller phones and smaller iPads.

Double the cost of a Pro iPhone is crazy for a product that I'd argue is a worse user experience than a smaller phone, but what do I know. 😛
I want smaller too. I luv my 13 mini. But the dimensions of this device are interesting enough yo perk my interest but on my retirement income - yeah its not something Im buying.

Seems intriguing but any one else massively on the fence about this one?

First gen, perhaps a concession of a folded view being a weird size/shape, the fold out being less immersive than an iPad mini (though pocketable), exorbitant rumored price, battery life concerns, concerns of the apps not being fully supported with these new sizes all that well out the gate, the crease, etc.?

Fun stuff either way even if I don't buy it.

Would Apple take the humble road if it's another flop after a mild Air reception? How will 20th anniversary bode?

I'm ok with it starting out at $2K. What I'm not ok with is the passport style design. I won't be buying it for that reason alone - and this is coming from someone who has been wanting a folding iPhone since the Samsung Fold first debuted. I want the folded form factor of a Pro Max. That is when I will drop $2K on one.
I wanted the size of an iPhone mini when folded. The passport shape makes me wonder how easy it will be to use one handed when folded. It may be too wide to easily type with 1 hand and be able to reach the opposite corner.

I'm sure they've made them all different shapes and if they picked this one, then there must be a good reason. Sometimes you just have to try it to get it.

I've also wanted one since the first fold phones came out. I'll buy one no matter what shape or cost.

Unlikely to be that high as the base price. $1499 is likely the sweet spot for a cutting edge phone/tablet thingy that no one knows if they actually need.
That price point is highly unlikely. Samsung's flagship folding phone -- the Galaxy Z Fold7 -- starts at $2000. There's an extremely slim chance Apple will price a device lower than that.

Folks, don't fall for the tutti-frutti, phone-baloney, plastic banana, good time, rock-n-roll "leaks." This is Apple PR, "leaking" a price, to set the expectation only to be undercut by the actual price to truly delight customers. This is a classic trick.

A $2,000 smartphone has no real market, and they know it. For that, you already have an iPhone and an iPad.

The only thing that would make sense about spending $2K on a smartphone is if you could use it as a full computer by connecting it to a display.

sooner or later, we’ll get to that all-in-one device.

Apple has usually enabled some overlap between the highest configured option and the base next tier up. It's smart because it psychologically pushes people to the next tier. I'm going to guess $1699 with a maximum price of $2199 for 2TB. No way this thing will cost more than a 13" iPad Pro 2TB with Nano-texture display at the top end.

I think you are getting that though.

At first, I was turned off by the form factor, especially the latest video leaks, but I think I've been looking at it wrong. I think the use cases will end up being that you should hold it vertically when unfolded where it will be just a little bit larger than a Pro Max, and if you're watching video, turn it into the flatter horizontal mode where video will basically fill up the entire screen.

I think you'll still be able to do things like run two apps side by side if you hold it horizontally, but I have a feeling Apple is going to put an emphasis on using it vertically and having a larger screen than a PM for normal usage, while folding down to something smaller you can slip in your pocket.
