Question
Are they going to charge the CC I supplied each month for the monthly payment or just the taxes and first month payment with each monthly payment after that being billed to me through the mail?

I believe it will be the monthly installment fee every month charged to your CC, and then you should pay your CC bill as normal.

Friend was approved and his credit score is mid 500s due to an error with a credit union that has to be fixed. However, he has good history aside with low debt aside from multiple previous and a current car loan. A credit card is required for payments, debit not usable.

Being in a contact, we received subsidized pricing on the iPhone 6 Pluses, so they were already paid for long ago. I just continue paying my Verizon bill as usual, and the iPhone Upgrade Program costs will be automatically charged to my credit card every month. Now I plan on selling the old phones on Swappa and just continuing to pay the iPhone Upgrade Program into eternity I guess lol!

I plan on doing the same thing. Currently 1 year into a 2 year contract with AT&T. Since you *must* activate the iPhone when you buy it using the iPhone Upgrade Program, I'm just going to add the iPhone as an additional line, swap SIMs and then cancel the new line I added.

I have a business discount that waives activation fees so I won't have to pay that and I'll just pay the prorated amount for the 1 or 2 days for the additional line. Then sell my iPhone 6 unlocked for ~$500.

Just thought I'd post my two cents having just got back home from the Apple Store.

Signed up for a reservation. Got there. Front of the line quickly. Got the phone and began the checkout process and notified them I wanted to do the iPhone upgrade program.

I have a 724 credit score, a barclaycard through Apple, and a $4,000 available balance on that card with a combined household income of over $80,000.

I was declined. At first everyone was getting declined. Then some started to work. Mine didn't. They attempted 3 or 4 times with absolutely no luck.

It immediately added a hard inquiry to my credit score. Although we attempted four times, for now it appears that it only hit my credit score once.

I'm beyond upset and will anxiously be awaiting my letter from the bank to find out why I was declined. I personally believe it was a system communication error. And that maybe I was approved but the system just didn't show it. I'm tempted to go back and try again tomorrow just to see if it was a launch-day-8-am issue or not.

I'm in the same situation as you are, with just a bit higher credit score. An IT friend of mine said the same thing, the procedure hasn't been tested, that's why a lot of specialists don't know what to expect when the app process results in this.

Apple has to incorporate some pre-approval process next year on preorders to avoid this happening again.

I actually asked this question when picking up my 6s plus and was told yes!

They said you would be "taking a new line of credit" so another pull would be needed, as when you get a new car loan.

This is not cool as i dont want my phone to ding my credit score because of too many inquiries!
Hmm. This I really don't like; but I'm wondering whether this is yet another question there is not accurate information in place for yet. I'll ask at my appointment in 3 hours. If I don't get denied! My credit is good, but apparently, there are issues.

Thanks to all who have offered their experiences. Most helpful.

Haven't read through the whole thread, but since people are having problems here's how my experience went:

No trouble getting on the Apple finance plan. I mainly did it to escape my carrier's subsidy set-up. I'm on the original ATT unlimited plan that came with the first iPhone. My credit score is 744 or there about. They approved me practically instantly and shot an email confirmation. They used my VISA as the "payment method." Then I traded in my 6 Plus for $375, which they credited to the card I used as the payment method.

I intend to pay the entire balance over the first two-three months, so I made sure that there are no penalties for paying it off early. There aren't.

Hope that adds some value to the thread...

Why is there a issue with tmobile? What current phone program do you have through them? Asking bc I have a 4:00 appt and I have a EIP remaining on my non jump iPhone 6 Plus. I don't want to go through issues and thought this was supposed to be easy and pretty much separate from your carrier.
I am in the exact same situation as you. They have to verify through T-Mobile system that you are a current customer of them and it has to be activated through their system. That's the problem, their systems are all screwy. Apple's systems and T mobile systems have to sync with each other for the transaction to go through

If this is true, I'm definitely not doing the program in the future. Hard pull every year? No thanks.

As I posted another thread I was denied despite having excellent credit (794 score according to Discover) and no debt. They refused to let me run another card, and indicated that I was done with AUP, though I could try again after getting my denial letter and fixing the supposed problem. Of course that policy is set by the lender, not by Apple.

Before this fiasco they were emphatic upfront that a debit card would not work. I asked and was told that my payments would be automatically charged to the credit card that I used (which makes the refusal to use debit cards make sense).

The big picture went fine. I arrived at 9 for a 930 appointment, and had to wait about 20 minutes. They were letting latecomers who missed their 9 o'clock appointments in front of me, so based on my experience I don't see much purpose in arriving early.

In reference to the hard pull yearly, that makes no sense as you have already been a customer for a year or more... Makes more sense to be a soft. We can ask Citizens when we get our accounts actually set up where we can contact them (like to change billing credit cards, etc.).

A little confused here or maybe just not understanding, you traded in the 6 plus and they credited the $ from that to where again? I thought it was issued in the form of a gift card.

I am at the SF store now and the wait is at least 1 hour according to Apple Staff. There are about 150 people ahead of me.

I am seriously thinking NOT doing the Upgrade Program if I have to wait at the line like this EVERY YEAR.

Why can't Apple do it online?! Credit check can be done online nowadays.

Yeah, you can apply the credit to it, through away your money, and still make the same payment per month as everyone else.
Well, you're wrong about that. The rep I spoke to was correct -- they apply the credit to your credit card and it is processed like a return. Then the payments are deducted from that card like normal.

So you don't end up "throwing away" any money.

I've been really curious how people that are in the middle of a 2 year contract can make this work. If you don't mind me asking, are you now paying the cost of the 6S on top of the amount you were already previously paying to Verizon? Are you paying a bill to Apple for the phone and a bill to Verizon for the service?
Yes. I plan on selling my current iPhone 6 then pay the ETF and then I'll be off contract.

For what it's worth, I just got done about an hour and a half ago. Was approved to get two devices on the upgrade program with a score of right around 600 (I'm rebuilding).

Very odd that so many of you were declined :( seems to me like things are working again, but I'm one person out of thousands.

I got denied and I have ok credit, 680 or so. I tried twice with two credit cards, both have like $5000 limits and no balance. Bummer, went with AT&T next 18 instead... Oh well

I find it funny that this bank is denying people with decent credit scores and most likely good debt to income of a installment loan with a max possible monthly payment of $44.91. At least offer some sort of collateral option to make the loan more secure. Apple is basically guaranteeing the residual value after one year.

I had the same experience. I have a 720 credit score and we tried 3 different credit cards including my Barclay through Apple which has no balance and a 8k limit. It was embarrassing! I ended up just doing the recycle program and buying the phone outright but I'm really annoyed!!! I went home and double checked my credit because I couldn't understand why I would be denied!

People have been told it's NOT a hard pull but a soft.
This. I was told by 3 different people over the last week, including today that it was soft. Which would make sense because there was nothing in the process that would require a hard pull. Hard pulls typically requirs income vs. house payment and so on.
