As a follow up to my own post, I was able to create an account at Citizens One's site and successfully change my recurring monthly payment option to my business AMEX. So basically you just have to use a personal card when initially purchasing the phones, running the credit check, etc, but you should be able to change it to whatever card you like, or even an ACH bank draft, once you get setup on Citizen One's site.

How were you able to log in? I tried with no luck.

IUP failed for me. System errors. They are holding the phone for me so I'll try again later. Hopefully, the issue is cleared up by then.

How did you create an account? When I go to the Citizen's One site I'm asked for a loan number, and the email CO sent me didn't list a loan number, nor did the Apple receipt.

Stopped by the store today to get a case. Place is a mad house of course, coupled with irate employees - no one seems to know the story. I left a 50 person+ line once they told me they wouldn't be able to setup the program with T-mobile prepaid.

I already received my preorder 6s, I'm just gonna try for the program next year.

It's been listed right there in the terms since the day the program was announced:

  • Credit Card. To enroll in the iPhone Upgrade Program you will need a valid and eligible U.S.-issued personal credit card as designated for inclusion in the iPhone Upgrade Program. Debit, corporate, and prepaid cards are not accepted.

Sorry my bad I should have specified - by "they" I meant the apple staff when I explicitly asked if a business card with my name on it was suitable.

Look at the very bottom of your receipts. You'll see all the info you need, including Loan Number, first installment plus tax, etc. This is the info you need to input on Citizens One's site when you create a new account to manage your loan.

I've been reading these posts all day, so thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. I need a little help figuring out the details of my possible use of the AUP.

I have an iPhone 6 bought about a year ago on a 2-year contract with AT&T. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan. I'd like to keep my unlimited data and my current phone number. My wife is also an AT&T subscriber; when I upgrade my phone, I typically give her my old one. I'd like to do that again – give her my iPhone 6 and I'd like a new 6S on the AUP. She wants to keep her number, but probably doesn't care about what plan she will be on. I'd like to keep her off a NEXT plan or whatever if possible. As I understand it, giving her the new phone would not require a new contract as I'm not buying her a new phone.

I have the 64 GB model now and will likely get the same 64 GB capacity for the new 6S.

When I went to the AT&T site to determine the monthly wireless service costs for a bring-your-own iPhone 6S, I could not find that information. You have to enter the IMEI number to obtain that information, but I want the rate info to determine what my costs will be prior to buying a new phone. Accordingly, I do not have the IMEI number of the phone I will be using with the bring-your-own plan.

So, lots of questions:

Is there a way to figure out the cost of my current AT&T service for a bring-your-own device? I know how to figure out the monthly cost of the 6S on the AUP and, if I understand correctly, there will be some ongoing cost through the end of the current 2-year contract period to pay off my current iPhone 6. Will that cost get moved to my wife's payments if I give her the iPhone 6? Will my current plan cost just be reduced by the monthly cost of the subsidy?

Can I keep my current talk, text, and data plans with AT&T on my AUP bring-your-own device? Based on posts here, I think the answer is yes, but I want to be certain.

Also, do I have to give Apple my current phone? Or, can I give that to my wife?

How is this going to play out?

Well, just an update to my post:

1. Tried to do a Upgrade Program.
2. Freaking T-Mobile website cannot verify the IMEI of the phone. Staff tried with another phone and same thing.

I just paid outright for it. With the long wait, not honoring the reservation time and requiring carrier to verify the device for the program, I don't think it'll be worthwhile to do the program.

It's going to be an even more mad house experience next year because there will be people who want to get the program AND those who need to trade-in the phone.

I always bought online and have it delivered. This is the first time I did a store pick up. Never again...

It was a hard inquiry.
And it's funny because I was denied but mine isn't showing up on my credit report. So maybe something was entered wrong. We will see tomorrow. I already called Citizens Bank and they told me to wait until tomorrow after 8am to find out the reason.

got denied and they can't explain why. they ran my credit card three times, my credit card company has said they've seen the charges three times and they were approved. my credit score is well over 700.

all i got was a *shrug* and maybe you should get another credit card.

bs...

Add the AUP phone to your existing AT&T mobile share account as a bring your own device line, should be $15 per month to add a device. Move the SIM from your old phone to the new AUP phone. Call AT&T and disconnect the new line, no penalty since it's a non-contract, bring your own device line.

You don't need to give Apple your current phone in order to setup a new AUP plan.

Wow, after reading this thread I don't feel so bad. Not sure why, but I too was declined for the iPhone Upgrade Program, and just bought the phone outright. This alarmed me so as soon as I got home to make sure nothing usual was showing on my credit report. I pulled it, and found nothing unusual, did see where Citizen's Bank had pulled it. There is no reason that I can see that I was declined, unless it was an error that others seem to be experiencing. Not trying to brag at all, as I know how tough it is to build from bad credit to good, but the average of my credit scores that I pulled was 822.

As far as I know, there's only a bring your own device line discount if you're on a mobile share value plan. There's no way to keep the unlimited data and get a BYOD discount, it seems.

I paid full price for all of my phones but can anyone confirm if this credit check is a hard inquiry or a soft pull?

Upgrade program was a breeze. I got there at 12:45pm for a 1pm reservation and I was in store by 1:05pm. Total took about 20 minutes including buying a silicone case for my new SG 6s+! It would have been faster but the specialist just started his shift and it was his first program sign up so he was a little slow. He activated the phone without opening the box so I got to open it myself at home and restore from iTunes. Great experience and I'm glad I joined the program.

It would completely defeat the purpose of a credit report/score if a creditor who is extending you new credit could code it as a soft pull. Then they will all start doing it so that people won't go "no hard pull" and bail.

I don't know what a "mobile share account" is. Is this a specific product name of AT&T? I checked and we are currently on the "FamilyTalk Nation 550 With Rollover" plan. Though it looks like I could save some money by switching.

Yeah, you have a old grandfathered plan. Do you still have unlimited data?
