Question for those that were approved for the AUP and activated the phone on AT&T. Which Phone did you receive? A1633 (6S w/ AT&T Band 30, A1634 (6S+ w/AT&T Band 30) or the A1688 or A1687?

I bought two phones via the Apple Upgrade Program this morning with no problems.

I see two charges on my credit card I used, both with the full amount refunded.

On both of my receipts it says the first installment amount is $95, with subsequent payments the $36 amount stated by Apple in all of the marketing.

I created my account with Citizens One and it shows no transaction history and the recurring payment of $36 but mentions nothing about the higher first installment payment.

Anyone else see this?

I'm confused on what this Citizen One thing is.
If you are buying an iPhone under the Apple Upgrade Program are you getting a brand new credit card called "Citizen One" of which will be a new card you make payments through?
What if you want to pay with your own already established credit card you may own such as American Express?
What is Citizen One everyone is talking about?

I thought only people who's loans went through got that email though

It seems everyone who applies should get it as it does outline the program and payments for the load you are applying for, etc. It's information so you can decline if you decide you don't like the terms. But seems some people are getting it late.

You are applying for a LOAN not a line of credit. You will not be getting a new credit card. I also used my AMEX but as @ProMod pointed out, you can log into Citizen's Bank with your loan info and update your payment method. You can change the credit card they will hit monthly or even to ACH. I just registered and all the options are available. You can even pay off the loan in full if you want at no penalty.

Had a 10am reservation at the Grand Central store in NYC, was declined for the Apple iPhone Upgrade Program and was attempting to use my jetBlue AmEx and ended buying out-right. Credit score is 825, no balance on cards, or existing loans. Now I'm curious how the credit check went, how would one find out why they were declined?

I just got home from the local Apple Store. Not a long wait at all I was an hour early for my appointment and get right in. Signed up for the Apple Upgrade Program and was approved without issue. I don't have the best credit either. Honestly I was a little surprised. I was just sped ting to leave paying full price. But was out in 20 minutes

I was declined as well.

Apparently you have to wait 24 hours before contacting Citizens One, but with it being the weekend, chances of them being open are nil. So you're stuck until Monday. And, even then they may not be able to tell you anything until you get their letter in the mail. That's 7-10 days. If it can't be resolved, you're waiting another 30 days to try the AUP again, after trying to clean up what they tell you is wrong.

And in the meantime, that hard pull is still on your credit report.

BL.

Does anyone use Credit Karma to track their credit and it showed up on your report. Mine still hasn't hit my report which is leading me to believe something went wrong.

My appointment took some time as the Apple employee was a little confused/nervous doing the upgrade program for the first time. It took about 45 minutes to checkout my 2 phones. I had to do each one separately, a lot of scanning, swiping, typing later and calling the manager over a few times I was approved for both phones, 128GB RG 6S+ and 64GB SG 6S. I used a Chase Sapphire card with a 5-figure limit, credit score in the 760's. Hope everyones else goes smoothly!

Similar experience here. I was the second person in the door at my store right at 8am, so everyone was literally doing the process for the very first time, all at the same time. I got two Apple guys working together, and the first thing they told me was they are both Geniuses, so not used to working the retail end of things. This was "all hands on deck" so today everyone was a retail associate! They did a great job, though, and it all went super smooth and quick.

For the sake of "science" I went into the Apple store (UPS lost my phone). Purchased a 6s out of curiosity I was going to try the Upgrade Program. If you are on a corporate/business account or a prepaid customer just toss that idea out of your head.

I am on a BYOD corporate plan through my job. My job pays for my cell phone bill on the company plan and I bring my own device. According to the Apple employee that helped me despite having the billing account number/pin/address there was no way I could move my existing SIM to the new phone. They HAD to activate that new SIM, well that would require a phone call to my company's help desk. They said we can not call anyone and it 100% has to be done in store only no three way call, nothing.

Needless to say I just paid my normal full retail and left with my phone. I wonder why you can't just buy the phone like it's unlocked setup the financing and leave? Why MUST it be activated in store? Thought that was weird. Hopefully next year they at least open it up to the prepaid folks.

It seems like they made it too much of a hassle. Almost just as good to buy it outright and trade it back in to Apple in a year to buy the new one.

How does this actually work? Usually the phone needs to be turned on with a SIM card and then go through the whole activation process (iTunes or iCloud).

I did not swap my sim, and my new phone was activated during the process without even opening the box.

Exactly I am in the same boat (BYOD corporate plan). Just let us purchase the phone and leave. Honestly, who cares? You still get our money if we activate it or not.

A hard inquiry from Citizens Bank is on my Credit Karma account.

Not true about not being able to activate by swapping SIM as that is what I did. I had planned to do AUP, but the pesky business BYOD corporate plan got in the way. I bought full price and Apple rep swapped SIM for me.

I don't post very often but I just wanted to detail my experience today of buying my 6S with the upgrade program.
note: i have a credit score around 710-720 and used an amex to make my purchase. This was by far the easiest and pain-free experience I have ever had buying an iPhone. Walked in and was immediately greeted by an apple rep named Josh. He took me over to a table and started the process. He asked if I wanted to try to apple upgrade program and I said yes even though I had heard people have been having trouble with it. He said he had heard that too but for some reason he hadn't seen one decline (for him) so far today so I was really hoping i would not be the first for him. He verified that I was an authorized user on the att account (he said apple employees had been having a lot of problems today with people coming in and not being authorized users). He then checked my ID...the address on ID and billing address on the account were different because I had just moved but he never even mentioned that. The credit check took less than a minute and after that we ran the credit card for payment and I walked out with a brand new sealed iPhone. I hope more and more people will have experiences like mine!

Same exact experience I had as well

I was slightly miffed. I work for a telecom expense management company (possibly handle your company :p ) and this would be a great deal for employees to get their own phone separate of their companies upgrade policy. I just feel like Apple missed the boat on that one.

Smooth as silk. Approved in five minutes or less then set up and started backup. Bought another AW strap and out door in 40 minutes at most. Also got in half hour early because only one ahead for 3:30. I was originally 4 pm. My score poor to fair. Used Barclay Apple Rewards card.

I totally agree. Employees feel restricted because they only have access to certain company phones and have to pay full price for phones that are not. The Apple Upgrade program seemed like a perfect middle ground. Sure you still have to pay full price but you get to do it in installments and you could spread applecare (which is a blessing to corporate accounts) over those installments too. Missed opportunity by apple. Total bummer.

It makes me think that Apple has some kind of deal with the carriers to make sure the phones are activated.. not sure why though.

An interesting idea would be to buy the phone full price, activate your phone, return to the apple store and see if you exchange it for the iphone upgrade plan. In that scenario the phone is already activated..

Hello,

I have a business account with ATT, and went to the Apple store to get a phone and they said because my phone number is with ATT business they can't do the Apple Upgrade program. I don't think this is correct. Can anyone confirm? I don't mind doing my Upgrade program under my personal credit.
