Here we go... They assured me this is legit. Apologized for the misinformation and admitted there was a lot of conflicting information.

There "should" be a hard inquiry and it will only be done the first time. I was assured of this and now I'm going to go through with it.

Went in this morning, bought a RG 128gb plus, did AUP, was out in 5 minutes; credit score 790 with 5 digit credit card limit on 2 cards, no problems.

I have a different address on my DL than my billing address. I did not have any issues. I printed a utility bill just in case but the Specialist didn't even check so I'm not sure.

Any news on using the AUP and not being upgrade eligible? I would imagine that being separate programs but I have read two different stories about this.

Did anyone that is *not* upgrade eligible successfully do the AUP?

Call this number: 1-888-427-9671 (Citizens One Apple Upgrade Program customer service)

They'll be able to tell you why you were denied. I asked and the system was actually down when I tried to apply. Going back to the store to try again.

What service are you using to check? Is it the latest generated report?

Credit Check Total, which is a product of Experian, allows daily pull of your Experian report, as well as your FICO 8 Experian Credit Score. Three times a month, it allows a pull of all three credit bureaus, including FICO 8 scores.

I just did the AUP.

Reserved a phone this morning and went into the store when it opened. Basically gave the guy my credit card and driver's license, agreed to a bunch of stuff and it went through smoothly.

I have AT&T with unlimited data and am mid-contract, *NEW# says i'm eligible in April, the AUP doesn't affect the contract at all. I didn't have any issues.

Strange that the AUP doesn't impact your carrier program, but still requires you to have a carrier. I have a company provided SIM and because I'm not on the account am not eligible for the AUP.

I think it's that the carriers need to tie into the Apple system for this so they know what devices are on their networks. Yes, they should register when you activate, but they want to know beforehand likely for verification.

A pain isn't it? I went through the same thing yesterday.

It's more then that. You have to have an active carrier account to enroll in AUP.

I was just talking to me wife about this last night. I use to get the latest MBP until Apple came out with one that was a legitimate desktop replacement for my needs. I still have my mid-2012 Retina which I bought right after launch and I haven't seen a need or desire to replace it. The 6s+ just might be at that level for me. It replaced my 6+ because of the speed and 2gb RAM. Now I don't expect the iPhone to last as long as my MBP but I can definitely see a longer upgrade cycle for me moving forward.

I bought the 6s+ using AUP. If the program doesn't get more customer friendly then I doubt I'll use it again. As for the hard pull, which Apple lied about, I don't see a reason why they would have to do it again since the bank will have a history of payments that should negate the need for a credit check. If they do require a credit check on each purchase then I certainly won't ever use AUP again.

Yeah, they really dropped the ball on this program. They should have (a) let people check that they qualified online ahead of time and (b) not required a hard credit pull. Look, I'd understand having a hard pull, but NOT when the payments are essentially "secured" with a credit card (rather than a debit). It's kinda like a slap in the face to have the hard pull and require a credit card, not to mention all the individuals with otherwise great credit being denied as if they're a 400-something deadbeat.

I feel the same way about where technology is at. I bought a 13.3" Retina MacBook Pro last year, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD (w/ another 128GB JetDrive SD card for storage). It works fantastic for just about everything I throw at it (video, photo editing, web development work etc.), only time it "struggles" is when I'm running Parallels and a 4GB virtual Windows 10 machine (I find it better to just remote into my old 8GB Dell desktop with Splashtop for any Windows needs). I cannot foresee needing to upgrade to a newer machine for at least a few years, if not longer (assuming battery life is still alright and nothing terrible happens to the computer).

I still don't understand why it took Apple so long to put 2GB RAM in the iPhone, but it's a welcome change. When/if I get an iPhone 6S+, I doubt I'll feel the need to upgrade that for at least 2-3 years. As it is, I'm sticking with my 3GB Note 4 til next year at least, assuming it doesn't slow to a crawl due to Android's inability to effectively manage resources (something iOS does wayyyyy better).

Except that it doesn't require a hard pull.

The most annoying this about this is that it should have NOTHING to do with carriers. I'd really like to use the program with a regional carrier.

Many people have reported that a hard pull has shown up on their credit reports. Unless all those people are lying or misunderstanding things (which I highly doubt) then it most likely does require a hard pull.

Is it true that you have to be the account holder to use this program? If true, that sucks. They keep saying it has nothing to do with the carrier but clearly it does.

Just left the Apple Store (Washington Square, Oregon). Very organized, not a very long wait!

My AUP went through with ease! They didn't check my address or anything. On her device, when she pulled up my info it showed my home address which is my billing address for CC.

Used my Chase card. No problems...

I am under contract still (until 9/2016), upgraded just fine :)

Now just need to make another reservation hopefully tomorrow to get my husbands phone!

I was lurking this thread all day yesterday as I had an 830pm appointment and was unsure what to expect, but this gave me a good idea of how things were going to go down. Here is my experience with this program:

First, I was expecting to get denied due to my credit score. My score is sub-600s, and I figured if I go in expecting the worst, at least I won't be disappointed. After showing up around 815p I ended up having to wait until almost 945p before I even got into the store. Apparently the sprint and t mobile outages early in the day really delayed the appointments. So I finally get paired with an associate and begin the process with a capital one credit card. I get declined. Ok, no surprise there. I mention to the associate that someone claiming to be an apple associate on Reddit said that applications that were run a second time were usually going through in his store. He says ok, we try again. Declined again. Oh well. I opt not to buy the phone outright and head home to think about my options.

This morning I got the Truth in Lending disclosure from Citizens. I got two emails, one for each application processed. I called up to inquire a little further as to why I was declined. The Citizens rep said that it was too early to tell in my specific situation and that the letters with the official reasons for the decisions would be available on Monday if I called back then. But she did take some time to explain the parameters used for this loan and try to narrow it down for me. She told me that there is no minimum credit score, and what they're mostly looking for is that there aren't charge-offs or collections on the report (I have neither on mine) and that the credit card being used had enough available balance to cover an amount of three months of payments (mine did). So this just further confused me, and seemed to confuse her as well, since I seemed to be a "qualified buyer" despite my credit score.

About two hours later I get to work and speak to a coworker who was approved through the AUP yesterday. I tell him what the Citizens rep told me and he said that he does have an active collections on his report and the credit card he used didn't have enough balance for three months of payments on it, yet he was approved. It completely contradicted everything Citizens told me.

So I have no idea what the hell is going on with this whole thing. At this point I'm just waiting until Monday to call back and get the actual reason. If it's credit score related, fine. I'll figure out another way to buy the phone. If it's something that can be corrected, great, I'll make another reservation and head back to the Apple Store.

And before anyone asks, I didn't ask anything about a hard pull vs soft pull. I don't really care about that. But as of right now, nothing has shown up on credit karma as far as a Citizens credit inquiry.

I don't expect this to clarify anything for anyone, if anything it just raises more questions. But I just wanted to share my experience.

I don't have one. I would have had one reported to me in an email. So no, it doesn't.
