Tons of good info in this thread, including the fact that you're still supposed to get a receipt from the local Apple Store, which has the all-important loan number on it. I was approved, got the loan email everyone got, but never got the receipt (probably a typo in the email address, dang 5s keyboard! :) ).

What's the best way to get that resent?

And why can't they auto fill the data they have? They always know at least one email address, since we signed up using our Apple ID. Entering all that crap on those little keyboards is asking for trouble.

Call the store. I bet they can look it up by IMEI or a different identifier.

We'll all be back here next year when the headaches start on actually getting upgraded and returning the 6s for the 7 for launch day.
And those will be fun with them having to test the phones and decide if they need to use a AC+ incident to fix it or not, never mind the loan renewal. Get your popcorn out!

Headed to an Apple Store at 11:30est to do the upgrade program. Hopefully I will be approved for it.

Do I need any account information for my ATT account? I am in my dads plan and I am an authorized user, but don't have access to his online account.

No, just as long as you are an authorized person on the account. You'll need your phone number that you are upgrading, and correct address that matches CC billing. (Just make sure they match)!

I had no issues yesterday afternoon. The rep acknowledged she had seen a lot of denials. She said they were told it is a hard pull, and that as far as she knows you'd get a hard pull next year when you upgrade too. But she seemed to be guessing on this point.

I also asked if the 14 day return policy still applies with the upgrade program (it does).

I've got a ~770 credit score and was approved. Paid the first installment + tax on an AmEx with no issues.

So far no hard pulls are showing up for me. I have free credit monitoring of all 3 reports (courtesy of my health insurer after they were hacked). This service typically sends an email alert to me within a few hours of a new hard pull and has alerted me every time I've applied for a new credit card before. I have yet to receive an email alerting me to a new hard pull, but maybe there's a weekend delay.

I'd hope apple provides more info next year about how this will work for those of us already in the program. Way too much confusion and lack of info this time.

Yeah, they really dropped the ball on this program. They should have (a) let people check that they qualified online ahead of time and (b) not required a hard credit pull. Look, I'd understand having a hard pull, but NOT when the payments are essentially "secured" with a credit card (rather than a debit). It's kinda like a slap in the face to have the hard pull and require a credit card, not to mention all the individuals with otherwise great credit being denied as if they're a 400-something deadbeat.

I feel the same way about where technology is at. I bought a 13.3" Retina MacBook Pro last year, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD (w/ another 128GB JetDrive SD card for storage). It works fantastic for just about everything I throw at it (video, photo editing, web development work etc.), only time it "struggles" is when I'm running Parallels and a 4GB virtual Windows 10 machine (I find it better to just remote into my old 8GB Dell desktop with Splashtop for any Windows needs). I cannot foresee needing to upgrade to a newer machine for at least a few years, if not longer (assuming battery life is still alright and nothing terrible happens to the computer).

I still don't understand why it took Apple so long to put 2GB RAM in the iPhone, but it's a welcome change. When/if I get an iPhone 6S+, I doubt I'll feel the need to upgrade that for at least 2-3 years. As it is, I'm sticking with my 3GB Note 4 til next year at least, assuming it doesn't slow to a crawl due to Android's inability to effectively manage resources (something iOS does wayyyyy better).

I knew it.

This is totally lost on most.

No loan here if your credit card secures the purchase.

Dispute the hard pull.

For anyone concerned about the return policy: Yesterday, I was able to return my IUP SG 6S for a IUP RG 6S due to my wife's sudden change of heart after seeing my RG. They scanned the old phone and it showed a message for me to accept saying something like this loan balance will be paid off and closed. Also, got a refund receipt stating the total amount with the phone and AppleCare+ refunded via iPhone Upgrade Program.

I then had to reapply for the new phone. One of my concerns was if picking the same line would cause any problems for approval, but I was able to select the same line immediately after and approved without issues. The whole process took about 10 minutes.

Just thought I'd post my two cents having just got back home from the Apple Store.

Signed up for a reservation. Got there. Front of the line quickly. Got the phone and began the checkout process and notified them I wanted to do the iPhone upgrade program.

I have a 724 credit score, a barclaycard through Apple, and a $4,000 available balance on that card with a combined household income of over $80,000.

I was declined. At first everyone was getting declined. Then some started to work. Mine didn't. They attempted 3 or 4 times with absolutely no luck.

It immediately added a hard inquiry to my credit score. Although we attempted four times, for now it appears that it only hit my credit score once.

I'm beyond upset and will anxiously be awaiting my letter from the bank to find out why I was declined. I personally believe it was a system communication error. And that maybe I was approved but the system just didn't show it. I'm tempted to go back and try again tomorrow just to see if it was a launch-day-8-am issue or not.

Same exact thing happened to me. My credit score is just over 800 - never been denied credit - and I got rejected outright. I was shocked to say the least. I ended up buying the phone outright, which ironically is a sign of someone with the financial means worthy of a good credit score. But still. This is not okay for Apple or my credit record. I feel Apple should investigate what happened and make this right for the people who were impacted by this flaw or what have you.

Yeah, I wasn't worried about the loan. If you had the loan for 12mo and are in good standing they will auto renew the policy. I'm with you and wonder about the process of handing in the old phone. Also, what about the headphones/charger/cable? Are you allowed to keep those every year? I'd also hope that they allow you to upgrade for launch day delivery. In that you receive the new phone on launch day and use that packaging to ship back the old iPhone.

The phone merely needs to be in a good condition. It will be a visual check. All this is explained in the terms.

You will be able to keep the accessories that came in the box. They only want the phone back. And, from what I read in the terms, you will be returning the old iPhone to a retail location.

That sucks. I hope they'd still deliver the phones on launch day and give us a couple weeks to trade in the old phone vs having all AUP people going to the store on launch day. They have our credit card info so it's easy enough to charge the remaining balance on the old phone if it isn't returned.

It's absolutely that. Mine is up for "MISC/OTHER" for around $120.

I got a charge last night for $120.37 which is the first payment per Citizens agreement was to be made "Three business days after your Apple Store purchase is complete."

Since it's a pending charge I assume it will be final by Tuesday/Wednesday so yeah 3 days.
