No, it starts at $549.

Why would you want to?

24 months x $32 = $768 for a $648 phone with AppleCare.

No, it is $649. That screenshot reflects the $100 price drop on the iPhone 6/6+. See here or the attached image from Aug 20.

If I go to the store and there is no stock I'm just gonna tell Apple they lost a customer and wait for the 7 because if this is the case it is kinda ridiculous
My understanding is you make the reservation to come into the store to apply for the Apple financing. I don't think you will walk out with a phone. But you will still need to preorder it. So they will be out of stock by then and shipping times will be 6 to 8 weeks out by then.

It's essentially the NEXT program with a little bump for AppleCare.

Of course NEXT was blasted as evil, greedy and stupid and any customer who used it was getting duped because AT&T introduced it. But since this upgrade program is from Apple it'll be considered groundbreaking and forward thinking.

So this is also effectively a "bring your own device" from the perspective of the carrier, i.e., those of us off contract, who are getting a discount (based on no contract + plan, in our case, -$15 per device).

Basically, we're off contract, looking for two new phones, and I'm trying to determine the best mix of cost, flexibility and simplicity (I know outright purchased phones can be sold, but that's time/effort/etc.)

No, there are no upfront costs.

So no upfront cost and it's over 2 years, you pay for a SIM card with a carrier and the monthly cost for the iPhone. As its unlocked I assume you can swap SIMS if need be.

But after a year you can upgrade would the cost of the iPhone increase do we think?

Did you actually do the math?

$32/mo for 12 months is $384. The 6S 16GB is $549 brand new. Add in $99 for AppleCare+ and the difference is $264. Do you think a 12 month old iPhone is only worth $264? You could sell it for a lot more yourself.

Actually multiply that by 24. Who didn't do the math? Looks like you tried but failed.

Why would you not be able to apply for the apple credit card right now, and just buy the phone using that card when it comes out?

I'm a bit baffled as well. To me, the $30 saved is whatever. That's not the biggest deal to me; I just want to know how streamlined this processed will be. Will they have stock for me to buy if I go in and set up the iPhone Upgrade Program? Or will I have to order it there and have it delivered it to me 8 weeks later?

I don't travel much and I've never cracked/dropped/broken/etc a phone. I just want more details on how this whole thing is going to work. On the website it says "You can make a reservation online, starting at 12:01 a.m. PDT on September 12, to buy in store." it's a bit vague. Will I be able to buy the phone in store and get it that day? or will I have to buy it in store and get it shipped to me. *CONFUSED*

The only reason I am considering this is because I reallyyyy hate dealing with AT&T Next and I'd rather just go through Apple first party if they can do this well.

Surely Apple will allow us to also reserve a phone when we make the reservation for the iPhone Upgrade Program on the 12th?

Otherwise it's better to go with AT&T Next 12 to get a phone on launch day.

So basically if I'm under contract from buying the 6+ when it came out I'm not eligible for this apple upgrade program until my contract runs out?

Here is my quick break down comparing att next vs apple program

att: 849/24 = $35.375/month
apple: $40.75/month

+$5.375/month (+$129 over 24months)

Applecare is $99.00

After 24 months you are paying $30 more with the apple program. Is it worth it to have an unlocked phone on day 1 vs day 730?

Applecare+ is now $129 for 6s...there's your $30 difference. And I don't believe you're buying an unlocked iPhone. I think you still choose a carrier. So choose T-Mobile...which is really unlocked.

I'll still pay full price at pre-order. Don't want to make an appointment for the iPhone Upgrade Program and miss launch day. Why an appointment? Credit checks are instantaneous online these days. Just to get into the store?

This program is pretty tempting as someone who likes to get a new phone every year like myself. I'm still on AT&T Unlimited data and am eligible for a 2-year upgrade which I was planning on using for the 6S Plus. Apple's new program is enticing but financially it probably makes more sense for me to take the subsidy and next year sell the phone for more than what I paid for it and pay the difference to get the iPhone 7 at full retail. I'll have to work out some math over the next few days before pre-orders start to see what makes more sense.

Any idea how difficult it is to get approved for something like this?
I really am not sure...I know by checking out their website, they deal with personal loans, student loans, home loans, finance loans and even have a credit card.

If you think about it the people who go to the apple store to do the upgrade program will be getting a phone that is unlocked while the the other people who choose to not use the upgrade program will be getting phones that are locked to which ever carrier they have so it will a seperate batch of phones. What I am saying is that the apple stores will probably get unlocked iphones for the upgrad customers and then have boxes of iphones that are locked to either att, sprint, verizon or tmobile so the customers who make appointments to signup/apply for the upgrade probably won't have to worry about it being out of stock because of the non upgrade customers.

I would get a 2 year contract carrier phone, from ATT if they still allow it and then sell that one and do this apple program..

I am on the ATT Next 18 plan now. Which means one more monthly payment and I can turn in my current 6+ and get the 6S+ and just continue on with my payments. I can't see spending close to $500 to "rent" a phone for a year. I just thought I would switch this current 6+ over to my wife and start up a new Next program to get the 6S+. after a few more months my original 6+ payments will be completed and I would own that phone outright.
What are you thoughts? Keep paying on a phone to own it, or go with apple and turn the phone in each year? For my situation, the Next program worked out best for me, as changing our plan saved us money, and got me the latest and greatest every year.

https://www.macrumors.com/2015/07/22/att-activation-fee-rising-to-45/

Not 100% sure, but I believe ATT Next charges a $15 upgrade fee. So Apple program is possibly just $15 more expensive?

I'd rather pay the extra $15 and get a truly unlocked iPhone 6S that supports ALL LTE bands. An unlocked ATT iPhone supports fewer bands than the Unlocked Verizon iPhone and a Factory-Unlocked iPhone. This helps in resale value having the more unlocked iPhone.

Yes I did run the numbers. Firstly, the 6S 16GB is $649. The value is in the ability to constantly upgrade without ever paying more, or dealing with receiving money for it.

Even for a great seller the difference is only around $80 between buying full price and selling annually over using the Apple upgrade program.
