In my opinion, declining iPhone popularity would be welcomed. I like the feeling of belonging to a group of users which is limited in some way.

IMO, the landscape texting on the iPhone was worse than portrait texting.
When I used the Safari browser in landscape, the space between keys was too wide.

I prefer the standard portrait text.

Well...

Apple put a lot of facts out about the phones functions and capabilities and it becomes the consumers job to decide after weighing in on the pros and cons that pertain to them. Every extra feature takes additional time to be added. I'm not a phone engineer on any level so I don't pretend to know what's involved in making a cell phone, let alone make one for the very first time. Sure, it would be great to meld hundreds of ideas from other phone manufacturers but it doesn't seem to work that way, unfortunately. Kinda the same way that I wish that Mcdonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC and Wendy's were all under one roof, but hey, gotta take things the way they come, huh?

Someone please tell me where I can click a button to run spell check? Yes I know the iPhone has auto-correct but I didn't post anything about the lack of auto-correct I posted about a lack of SPELL CHECK.

No one else sees a problem that it took Apple 2 years to come out with a fix that allows all of these features?

No we don't, because contrarily to you, we didn't let a few shortcomings distract us from having way too much fun using and enjoying what has been the most amazing piece of life-enhancing technology in our geek lives.

It must sucks to be you. :( Sorry about that.

^ He's a textbook example of that old sense of entitlement. If you don't like something, buy something else, because the developer/manufacturer/producer/writer/etc doesn't owe you anything. The sooner you figure that out, the happier you'll be.

Why do people post in an Apple-centric forum complaining about Apple devices... and then complain about people getting all defensive?

Seriously, common sense.

@ OP

If you don't like the iPhone, sell it?

keep you iphone 3g and do the update when 3.0 is released and you will have everything you want

Okay, for people who complain about the battery life. There is a third party device to recharge your iPhone on the go. Just like having a second battery.

Totally agree. Apple did not twist anyones arm and if you made the purchase knowing the limitations, then why whine about it? Oh wait, that's pretty much what most users do anyways.

Once 3.0 is out everyone will find a slew of new things to complain about.

Wow,

I can't believe a thread where someone moans about something which is already being addressed (regardless of if it should have been from the start) has gone on for this long.

Ok, let me start by saying I was one of the people that waited in line for 10 hours when the original iPhone came out. I paid $500 for an iPhone only to find out the price dropped dramatically a month or two later.
<snip>
I currently have an iPhone 3G...
<snip>

>did research
>knowingly lacking the features he need
>waited in line for 10 hours
>bought it for $500
>found out what he researched was true and lacks the feature he needs

Of course, the logical solution is to buy another one.
Why do smart people have all the money?

PS: I heard rumors that Apple is planning to sell another new iPhone pretty soon.
Hint:Hope to see you soon in line for the next iPhone release.

It could be love/hate for some. For example, I love iPhone for browsing, touch interface, and the fast response. But I wish the phone functionality's were better thought off. I mean the ease to redial, smart dialing, access call logs, better search from contacts screen, better interface for MMS, etc. Also, an optional Home Screen like in Windows Mobile with e-mails, favorites, RSS, calendar events all showing on one screen.

Some of us are looking for a perfect phone that will never exist so the complaining in all forums. Nokia's might excel in media features but lack the excellent browing/touch responsiveness of iPhone. Window's mobile have excellent Today Screen that can be customized like HELL with plugins, superb Calling features like Smart dialing/ logs/Contacts search, etc but have slow response. Sony Ericsson's have cool interface that can be easily changed everyday, excellent MMS interface, excellent photo/walkman functions, and smart dialing but fall flat on not having good e-mail client, or Today screen, or very good video capabilities.

Looking at future phones only Samsung Omnia HD looks good on spec sheet with Capacitive Touch Screen like iPhone, HD video recording, 8MP camera. But, after all it's coming from Samsung. So, they have to chew up something. Could be badly done UI!

Seriously people, stop giving this fffing troll air.

He`s run out of new things to whinge about and so has decided to retrospectively moan. Conveniently ignoring the fact that Apple built the iPhone with about 35 engineers (hardware & software).

There was no possible way to deliver everything, for each and every self important little moron that wanted it.

Prior to the iPhone every mobile OS sucked so hard due to bugs, missing features and just dead ends. Why was this? Because every manufacturer rushed the OS engineers to get something out the door for each new model of phone. I know some of the people that worked for symbian and that missed MMS for most of it`s life. (BB didn`t get it until about version 4.5). What i`m thankful for is that Apple have now energized(scared the bejesus out of) these companies and they are probably starting to follow basic engineering quality controls.

Bottom line, iPhone is the best overall phone, portable music player, handheld movie player, handheld gaming platform and software delivery platform.

All the reviewers who got past the screen based keyboard criticism have pretty much agreed and anyone else is an Apple hating luddite who expect Apple to deliver the world, and if they ever did, they`d still find something to moan about.

There`s no point in picking this apart with yet another moan, cos i just wasted 5 mins skimming through this thread and there`s no way i`m wasting another 5 mins of my life on it again.

Reading everyone's responses kind of made me laugh. Every one of you wrote how all these issues will be fixes in "the new 3.0 software that is coming out." Why doesn't anyone else see a problem that it took Apple this long to correct these issues? They should have been standard in the first place. As to why am I posting this, because I want to and I can.

Dude if you were apple, you would fail as a businessman

You are talking about missing features on other phones? Kind of like the missing features that will be released in a "software update" sometime in the future for the iPhone?

Boring troll is boring.

You're just going around in circles trying to get a rise out of people.

Okay, I think this needs to be said. We need to honor the rules of MacRumors. I've recently been a little harsh on him because I just couldn't take anymore of the complaining threads. So on that notes. I'll try to be a little nicer and try to point out the good and the bad.

Good of this thread, I'm glad you talk about this 'weak' battery, it last me texting, calling, and web surfing for a whole day. It does the job for me. If it doesn't do the job for you, look into third party tools to recharge your iPhone on the go so you don't need a second battery or this is your 'second' battery.

Bad part of this thread, you are arguing a completely non-relevant case. You are saying mostly in this thread that these things should have come standard. Well how many phones have come out and lack features? They just didn't take advantage of technology there. They are doing it now because they can, and they have to. This isn't a debate thread when you complain. That just makes the point of forums useless.

I just started the switch from PC to Apple. I didn't wait in line for hours for the iPhone or iPhone 3G. I got the iPhone a couple months after it came out when it was more stable. Why do you think I'm going to wait and see with the new iPhone release as well? It's a new technology-ish. Since the release of 2 iPhones under it's belt I'd feel a little better to get it right away but I'm not going to because I don't feel the rush. Look at what you need and if isn't then don't get it.

Again, I'm not trying to attack you and will honor the rules on this forum. But spark debate of not THEY SHOULD DO THIS! Or some people will respond in poor kind.

Firstly, you say that you bought the iPhone on launch day for $500. You made that decision. It was obviously a revolutionary phone that you wanted and WERE WILLING TO PAY $500 FOR. It doesn't matter if Apple dropped the price. It wouldn't have affected you either way. You should consider yourself lucky that Apple gave ungrateful people like you a $100 store credit;)

As for the features you listed that were missing, the features that the iPhone has far outweigh the features that it does not have. If you were unhappy with the features that the iPhone came with, why did you buy one?

You should be happy that Apple is providing you with this free update in June.

I hope you now feel ashamed of yourself for asking stupid questions ;)

There have been tons of reports of dropped calls. It has a weak speaker phone. Battery life needs to be improved. iphone is nice but its far from perfect; the apple fanboys don't want to admit that....

Uh, ok. But what can't the iPhone do as a phone? Someone was bitching that the iPhone doesn't work as a phone. Protip: it does.

Can't say I have any of those problems.

Perhaps you should move to Canada for better cellphone reception ;)

(and I don't remember ever using the word 'perfect')

I think we should all wait until 3.0 releases to further judge the iPhone. It's definitely not the best phone out but it is revolutionary.

Which do you think is the best phone out now?

Apps are fun but there's no boasting when one can just get a smarter phone and an iPod Touch these days so don't use apps to boast.

IMHO, most of the apps are overrated. There are only a few that are good. The ones that could be great apple/at+t are crippling their capabilities.

completely agree.

If he is unhappy with a product he has the right to complain. Or do you think this forum is only for those who bow down to the altar of steve jobs?

Are you lost?

You're at MR. Nothing but worship here. If you don't like the iPhone, find another forum.
