Good news and i thought so as well. I am curious now how they are goiny yo fix it. Either they limit the max volume ot tweak eq. I hope they do it smartely.

But how come then not all iPhone X had this issue? Also how come the ones they got it it’s not the same, I mean I also tested some display models and the crackle and distortion was noticeable but different on all devices and I found some that I couldn’t hear anything wrong. I have to add that the places I tested were busy shopping malls where loud music and loud crowd noise made it more difficult to listen to this phenomenon.
For me it’s hard to believe this is software related. But let’s hope so because it’s easy to fix this way and many people can keep their phones.
Fingers crossed. ✌️

I agree with you. My first iphone x was manufactured on November and it had a terrible top speaker. It sounded horrible. Then the one i am using right now stills crackles but sounds better and supports better higher volumes. For me it does not make any sense because if the hardware and software are the same on all devices, they must behave the same, but they don’t. I don’t know what to think anymore. The only thing i know is that i want my phone to work properly and that is it. I paid $999 and i deserve quality. I will wait until the end of this week to see if they will release an update with the fix. Otherwise, i will push again for a replacemente until i get a good one. This is apple’s problem not ours. We paid for a product that should be working properly period.

I went to JB Hifi today which is the only authorised reseller in my town. I tried one display model with the ringtone slow rise. The speaker distorted and ratlled like my returned one. I asked the staff if they know of this issue and they said no one returned a single phone to the store or mentioned this. I didn’t point out that their display phone is doing it. Maybe I will go back and tell them. Would love to see how they react.
What I don’t understand is if a senior advisor is mentioning this to customers how come Apple don’t make a public announcement about this issue and tell their worrying customers they are aware of it and working on an update. This to me sounds like they are just stalling, not very straight forward and honest.

Yea, I have the same issue with my iPhone X on iOS 11.2. Very painful to hear through the receiver

Yeah, there is NO way this is a software issue when 2 of my first X's had it and 3 i've tested made after 11/15 didn't have the issue.
My second iPhone X (built 3rd week of November) has the issue as well as metallic hissing during regular calls but doesn't do it for every call which leads me to believe it could be software, who knows. I have until January 8th to try it although the audio issues during calls are driving me insane very quickly...

Well I'll be damned. Mines a week old and I thought the same thing. And today I get the click when closing control center

This is pretty inconsistent with what "my" senior advisor told me :D (based in Ireland): there would be a little over 100 cases he's aware of (perhaps for Europe?) and I suppose they're replacing these units.
He and the after sales guy I talked to really insisted on me sending my unit over and getting a (brand-new, flawless... blabla) unit. I'm sure they wouldn't go through so much trouble (4 phone calls in 6 days) if it was due to be solved by a firmware update. Sometimes I have the feeling these guys, however helpful they are or try to be, are kinda disconnected from what's really going on.

I bought 2 launch day iPhone Xs. Mine does not have the speaker issue. The other one my girlfriend uses is horrible. The crackling is very noticeable even at 30% volume. It is the bottom speaker on her phone. Also, people have told her she sounds muffled when talking to her.

Called Apple today and they are sending a replacement device. Hardly asked any questions about it.

I bought another 256GB space gray IPhone X yesterday at an authorised reseller. The serial number started with an F letter. When on max volume the bottom and top speakers but especially the top one was resonating and vibrating a lot. Because of this the sound was not clear. When I listened to piano music it was very noticeable and also at the slow rise ringtone. Also I tried loudspeaker phone call and not always but sometimes I could hear it vibrate and resonate. Watched some YouTube videos and it seemed fine but when playing piano music on YouTube it’s there again. It’s like the phone is too loud for these speakers at max volume. But also when I turned down the volume like 3 bars it was noticeable. My iPhone 6 which is 3 years old also the bottom speakers resonate a little when I played the same piano music at max volume but on the IPhone X it’s more noticeable.
Anyway today I took it back got a refund.
I’m not sure anymore what to do. Because maybe all will be the same. I looked at the display model in the store sounds the same also serial number starts with F. I looked at some other resellers and they all were the same sounding phones. Serials all started with F.
I tried an iPhone 8 and the speakers were more clear. Of course I don’t expect the same quality from a phone as from a Hifi stereo speaker but all IPhone X I bought and tested just doesn’t sound good quality, it’s like it’s broken or something. At high volume there is too much vibration, I was holding the phone and can feel the vibration from the sound also on the back of the phone at the centre.

I love my X and the jump from 6 to it is WOW!
But, anytime my iPhone is near to high volume, the front speaker crackles and I fear the morning alarm will blow it, so I have kept the volume down 3-4 bars.

Should I get it replaced? Bottom speaker is fine, even at max volume!
Or is there a fix?

I don’t think replacing it will make any difference. I got a replacement from apple and it sounds better and does not crackle as bad as the first one but still crackles at 80%-100% volume.

I thought as much, and it's definitely more/only noticeable if volume is over 80%.
Checked the forum, and well a lot of the folks have the same issue and worse with the exchanged ones.

I hope it's just software issue and Apple would get it fixed soon! :)

I just got over it. I don't raise volume max. It doesn't bother me anymore I let it go :S..

You might want to ask people you speak to regularly if they notice something wrong with your iPhone...

A few days ago, I had one person (that didn’t know i switched phones) tell me my voice sounds like it has an echo, especially on “s” sounds. I’ve asked a lot of people since and they have confirmed it. Called the person that noticed and three more with my old 7 Plus (again without telling them about it) and all four immediately said something about the voice being fixed or that whatever I did fixed my phone :( The replacement X seems to have the same issue...

So now not only am I annoyed about the metallic sounds/crackle/hissing that I hear but I am annoying the people I call...

You guys are wasting your time and energy replacing phones fot the issue. I keep telling you all has it. If you cant wait for apple fix this and dont like it then just return it and find some other phone. Mine also has this issue and i am patiently waiting for apple do something about it. If they dont do anything within my return date i will have to think about it.

So we have 2 options.
1.We don’t ever buy iPhone X because it has crap quality speakers
2.We buy it and accept that Apple released a product with design flaws and we paid top money for it and try to forget about it. Use it only on lower volumes.

To be honest they could have done something by now if the really wanted to.
If this is not software related and looks like it isn’t then they could have maybe did something to the hardware by now while still producing it. Maybe change speakers... So the newer batches should be better. But if they are still the same then Apple did nothing.

The speaker grill is just too small for serving as a front facing speaker. Notice 8 Plus and its impeccable Gen2 stereo speaker.

no issue on mine bought it on nov.18 verizon in paid full at apple store.however i have a lot of dust on the camera lens but my 7 plus has this and yes i played with exchange game before and it did not end well.i also have the gap bet the screen and the stainless steel and can even see the glue but i dont think it will affect the waterseal as i look alot of X at bestbuy and apple store and all of them has this issue.aside from all of this im contented with it and hopefully wont have any other problem in the future.im sure alot of us has issue for sure no perfect iphone X if you look for defects.

Love the phone but I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the speakers slightly sounding a little crackling whenever max volume. Noticeable on certain songs and even my ring tone which was bought from the iTunes Store.

I compared it to my 7 plus and that one didn’t have a slight crackle.

Thanks guys
I own 3 unit iPad2 and 1 unit Macbook. This year (2017) all the devices mysteriously faced the same problem ie deteriorating sound. Initially there were crackling sound but then later the sound keep deteriorating and finally vanished! I strongly suspect there are manufacturing defect with the sound component of all the devices. I also own 1 iphone6 plus and 2 iphone7. So far they are still ok. I hope they won’t face the same fate. I have submitted a feedback to Apple but to date no reply yet.

So I got my 3rd phone, 2nd replacement. This one works much much better, I can actually hear who I'm talking to. The screen is much better too, the 1st replacement was so bluish with pink sides. So anyway I'm happy with this one.
