Mine is Still crackling but not horrible !!

I can honestly say I've had no problems with the speakers on my X - my phone was built in December.

Mine has the same problem. I'm pretty sure that this distortion is due to the speaker's protection grid. If you hold it with the nail, the distortion stops or reduce or is it my impression?

It could be blended? Anyway, let’s try with my nail.

11.3 beta 1 and i think that sounds better, the crackling continuous but it’s mínimum....

Just registered here because of this issue. Yes of course, i have the same problem. For me it is just extremly terrible during phone calls on speaker. Can hear web radio and music in good quality whithout having this problem. For me it seems that it is caused when the speaker tries to play several frequencies in a limited Range at the same time. This produces maximum air flow and vibrations. Maybe thats also the reason why it is especially reduced to phone calls and low quality music where the complete Volume is pushed into this special frequency range.
On ifixit there is a new tutorial for replacing the speaker unit with some detailed photos. The speaker itself lies directly on a quite huge piece of a flex cable which isnt adhesed anyway. I think the big amount of air maybe isnt able anymore to leave the housing through the small speakerhole. In fact of this it might be possible that it is pressed back and provides a vibrating between speaker and flex cable. All the other components seem to be fixed enough.
All this is speculation and because of warranty i cant open my phone in order to try fixing it :)

I really don’t want to go through that type of hassle just to fix the speaker...Apple should be the one to do this!

Yes it works!! I have installed and the distortion almost is gone! Dunno if Apple equalized the speaker or wtf, but the volume is the same.

Sounds good. For me this would a reason to keep and not to sell my phone :) Did you also test it with phone calls? Would be the most interesting for me. I have problems with some people who must have voices which provides these sounds. Also connections with poor sound quality cause the problem more than clear sounding calls.
I think i have to try a beta first time in my life :D

Can you try a Snapchat filter video for me? Does the speaker crackle when you talk loudly?

Also, try typing and deleting text when you are listening to music in the background...does the speaker crackle?

Now I’m on 11.2.5 and yes! The official release ios sound much better, I tried to verify if the max volume is lowet but seems not. Maybe apple just one frequency to fix it. I’m saying its not gone 100% but most people won’t notice.

Really glad to ear it sounds better on the first beta for you !

Could someone try the "multitasking crackling" - like GomerBoy said - or by scrolling on twitter/viewing Stories on Snapchat with audio playback ?

With iOS 11.2.5 still the issue, they fixed partially with iOS 11.3 beta 1

Try 11.3. Max volume seems a bit lower.
