I have had my iPhone X about 1 hour now and thus far, I am impressed. Face ID is fast. I like it even more with 1Password. As to the new gestures, they haven't really been a problem per se, but I have caught myself a few times reflexively trying the home button. Gotta love muscle memory. :)

Yah, I keep trying to press the home button.

After a few days I will probably get used to it.

The screen feels smaller, it is not quite as wide and apps not designed for the X are noticeable smaller. I guess I will have to try it for a few days and see if I want to return it. The face ID stuff has been working ok, but the smaller screen size is concerning as my eyes are not what they used to be. Yes, I can change the font size, but ...

I feel the same way. It’s rather jarring how small it seems. It I think it depends on what you used before. For those who had a non plus previous model. And wanted slightly bigger, with no bezels. This is their phone.

For someone using a plus model and almost expecting this huge gorgeous display. They will prob be disappointed. It’s kind of jarring for those folks. It def needs some getting used to.

Have to say I'm very pleasantly surprised with how much I like the X. I drove by a Verizon store this morning after dropping off the kids at school and there were only a few people in line so I stopped just to see if I could get one. I was lucky enough to snag one of the few 256 gb they had in stock. I'm on the Verizon upgrade program so I figured what the heck and picked one up. Have been playing with it a lot today. The Face ID works very smooth. The only time I had trouble with it was when one of my friends tried to get it to work and it failed too many times so I had to enter my passcode and then everything was back to normal. I've had the Plus for the past few years and the larger screen in a smaller form factor is nice. It does definitely take a while to retrain yourself from not hitting the home button. I keep mashing my thumb down and double tapping, etc from many years of learned behavior. But I'll get there. Overall it's a very, very nice phone.
Thanks for that update. I get mine early December and I wondered about that as well. Double tapping the home button and years of touchID. As you said learned behavior I’ll have to forget.

It’s just so so so crazy that everyone was up in arms about the notch and now a lot of those same exact people are saying it’s fine.

Every year... Lol

I'm confused with this post. I can see time etc. from the lock screen. What do you mean?
You wouldn’t be able to see the lock screen if Face ID took you straight to the Home Screen.
Tap on the screen while locked for any of those.
Does it not still scan for your face when you tap on the screen?

There needs to be an action that gives the device permission to actually completely open up.

It's weird to see the flashing flood illuminator and dot projector. They look like notification lights on Android. This is the first video review I've seen that shows that.
I’m sure it just the camera picking up the IR

I miss the battery percentage on top right of the display :(
I’m with you. I’d rather have just a percentage than the battery icon.

Not that I am aware of but yea I think it’s wasted space. I think they might have done it because of how tall the device and and how low you might be typing but who knows.

The more I use it the more I realized it’s to make it easier to hold the phone. I tried to pretend that the keyboard was lower and then you have no leverage over the phone so easy to drop. Other than looking weird I’m now getting used to it.

Oh NOW I see. Thanks.

As someone who has literally had every iPhone(except for the 5c or SE) I am quite faithful to Apple. I picked my iPhone X up at the Apple store today and this phone is hands down the best Phone they have made. It runs flawlessly, the screen is amazing and facial ID is awesome. Yes I can understand some folks are upset about not getting one on launch day but a month wait is well worth it for this device. I waited 9 1/2 hours for the very first iPhone....I would have waited 3months for this device if I had to...it’s just that impressive....

Nice to see all the people who actually managed to get a phone but here in the UK it's a different story. It appears that all the main stock has gone to the network providers leaving very little for Apple stores to sell.
Pre-orders opened at 8am last week and I was on the website refreshing constantly. It eventually came up for me at 8:13am by which time there were no iPhones in any of the 12 Apple stores within a 30 mile radius.
On launch day, I headed to my nearest store and there were only about 50 people in front of me so I thought I'd wait.
Unfortunately, each of those people seemed to be buying two phones so by the time 20 of those had gone through all 256GB models had gone. There seems to be very little stock of these models.
This morning, I have got up at 6am to attempt to reserve one. I was into the system on time and I went through the reservation process but when I clicked on the Reserve button I was taken to the main iPhone information screen rather than the one where you select a time for pickup. I tried this a number of times and, of course, after a dozen attempts it came up as not available.
Of course, I can now try to get up at 6am again tomorrow to try but maybe I'll just give it a few weeks and see if this initial furore calms down, otherwise, I'll likely end up as a nervous wreck!
With the device in such short supply (other than through the network carrier's stores) why doesn't Apple restrict purchase to a single phone to allow as many people to get on board? It strikes me that some people may get fed up and jump ship to another manufacturer because of the lack of availability. This is especially applicable to the walk-ins so that, if you want a phone, you all have to be in the queue to get one.
Anyway, rant over, I won't be jumping ship and will wait until supply gets a bit easier. In the meantime, I will watch the unboxing and guide videos so that, when I do eventually get mine, I'll be an X-Master and none of the new gestures will seem odd.
Enjoy your Xs people.

Nice phone - Bad workmanship
It’s fast , gestures are easy to learn. But: Compared to my 7plus and 6 Hardware quality seems to be not as high. I’m reffering to the edges between screen and frame.

Thanks for that. That is positive. Im quite worried about that potential here. Since a person only has 1 face but 10 fingers
Face ID performs much better than I expected. Both in terms of speed, success rate and preventing people misbehaving with it. I have no doubt it’s possible to get around but it is not as easy as many people expect. Apple did a really good job here.

Mine is good. My only gripe on the manufacture is it is so smooth I constantly feel I’m about to drop it.

The iPhone X is here! Apple Stores around the world opened up at 8:00 a.m. local time on November 3 and deliveries kicked off around the same time, getting the iPhone X into the hands of millions of customers today.

We got our hands on an iPhone X this morning and spent the day testing it out to get acquainted with all of the new features. Check out the video below to see a walkthrough of the unboxing process and Face ID setup.

Our video also covers the new Studio Lighting feature available on the iPhone X, plus it goes through all of the new gestures you're going to need to learn to navigate through the iOS 11 operating system. Without a Home button, there's a whole new workflow to learn that can take a couple of days to get used to. Once you've got it down, though, it seems to be a more intuitive navigation experience.

Face ID takes under 30 seconds to set up, so getting the iPhone X up, running, and ready to recognize your face is incredibly fast. Face ID also seems to work quite reliably, and the new Animoji feature that comes alongside Face ID is fun to use.

We're going to be taking a much closer look at the iPhone X and going over every new feature in detail both on MacRumors.com and on YouTube, so stay tuned and make sure to follow our YouTube channel if you don't already.

I order phones for my work and got 6 ATT model iPhone X's today. Pulled one out meant for our QA team for testing and I must say I'm not a fan. I come from the plus line of phones and I wasn't impressed by the device. Here are the reasons why...

Harder to hold because of bezel less design.

When using the keyboard it felt small and what is with the massive space under it? Drove me nuts.

Usable screen is smaller then Plus models.

Some of the gestures felt janky and didn't work a few times while trying them.

The lack of home button has made usability more complicated. Things that used to take a single step now take 2-3. For example closing a hanging app takes 3 steps instead of 2 now. Reachability, which I used, takes a weird gesture to trigger.

Using Apple pay has to be intentionally triggered via the power button.

Many apps not optimized for this display yet. Big black top and bottom borders if they are not. Look like standard iPhone app sizes.

There are a few other things here and there but at least there's the iPhone 8 plus if I want an iPhone. This is a gen 1 of a product redesign and I was expecting a few shortcomings. I'm still a bit surprised by how positive the reviews have been.

I cancelled my order on Verizon. I hope that pushed someone else up on the list. It was suppose to deliver by 11/15 but I'm no longer interested, I will wait for next one. Might get an 8 plus to replace my 6s Plus and keep using this pixel 2 XL in the meantime. Yes, I'm a 2 phone person.

I seem to be the only one reluctant to go smaller. Currently have 7+ and X just seems too small! The screen is same size but in reality smaller due to the annoying bit at the top. I have not yet seen X in real life so maybe it will be so amazing that I will want it but right now in videos and images i have seen it looks ugly and hate the fragile glass back. Due my upgrade next month and not sure what to get. Probably would go with Note after having had an iPhone for nearly 10 years but need to have ApplePay so stuck with these ugly phones!

Yeah, this seems incredibly counter-intuitive. They get rid of Touch ID so you don't actually need your thumb to unlock your phone - yet, you still need it to actually get to the home screen after unlocking.

Also...am I the only one who would love an even smaller foot print? While I know this has about the foot print of the 8, I still think the bigger screen will just be too big for my hands. Yes, I do prefer using my phone with one hand as much as possible. It's a phone, not a tablet. Never got the craziness over the Plus versions...

picking a color was hard but im glad i chose silver, the back kind of reminds me of the old white imacs
How is it silver when it is actually white??
