I order phones for my work and got 6 ATT model iPhone X's today. Pulled one out meant for our QA team for testing and I must say I'm not a fan. I come from the plus line of phones and I wasn't impressed by the device. Here are the reasons why...

Harder to hold because of bezel less design.

When using the keyboard it felt small and what is with the massive space under it? Drove me nuts.

Usable screen is smaller then Plus models.

Some of the gestures felt janky and didn't work a few times while trying them.

The lack of home button has made usability more complicated. Things that used to take a single step now take 2-3. For example closing a hanging app takes 3 steps instead of 2 now. Reachability, which I used, takes a weird gesture to trigger.

Using Apple pay has to be intentionally triggered via the power button.

Many apps not optimized for this display yet. Big black top and bottom borders if they are not. Look like standard iPhone app sizes.

There are a few other things here and there but at least there's the iPhone 8 plus if I want an iPhone. This is a gen 1 of a product redesign and I was expecting a few shortcomings. I'm still a bit surprised by how positive the reviews have been.

I cancelled my order on Verizon. I hope that pushed someone else up on the list. It was suppose to deliver by 11/15 but I'm no longer interested, I will wait for next one. Might get an 8 plus to replace my 6s Plus and keep using this pixel 2 XL in the meantime. Yes, I'm a 2 phone person.

If a reviewer is critical of Apple, they don't get an invite to the next Apple event.

It's not rocket science.

You wouldn’t be able to see the lock screen if Face ID took you straight to the Home Screen.

Does it not still scan for your face when you tap on the screen?

There needs to be an action that gives the device permission to actually completely open up.

Completely agree, 99% of the time I’m just opening my phone and don’t have any notifications to view, I don’t want it to unlock but stay on the lock screen.

I agree with some of your list, disagree with others (apps don’t support a new phone, really what do you expect?), but I must say I much prefer the new Apple Pay. You can prep in advance, tap and be done. It’s super quick and easy and more reminiscent of the watch experience.

got screwed by apples website on launch day. Didn't open for 15 mins and my delivery is now in December. Order went in 20mins after official opening time. Annoying thing is if I ordered today i would get it quicker. People ordered the same phone as me after me are already getting deliveries. If I don't get better news by Monday on my delivery prediction im cancelling my order. Sick of Apple at this point.
Why is demand-driven congestion Apple’s fault? Besides, the Interweb, including this site, was full of advice to use the Apple Store app for that very reason. I did and it was totally smooth. And if you can’t manage to wait 30 days for a new phone, please do cancel your order so someone else who can wait will be able to get one.

Is anyone having issues with Content Blockers?

I use peace, which didn't reinstall as it doesn't exist in the store any more. Had a few apps like that. Deleted the app (which had an icon with a cloud symbol next to it) and installed it by dragging the ipa file from finder onto the phone in iTunes. Seems to be working ok.

I didn't buy one, I won't be buying one, and I never camp out.

But I would like one. I never trust Apple's first-phase products, having been "burned" by them in the past. Apple always refines their devices in the second iteration, making them more durable and better functioning. Also, if the rumor holds true, I would love to have it in the bigger size coming next year.

The X looks great. That video displays the phone well.

During the video, I began to wonder "WHO IS MACRUMORS?" I've been on here since the early 2000s,j with an account since circa 2006 when "As The Apple Turns" faded, and I have no idea about the history, founders, current owners/employees, if there are offices, how it functions, etc. Make a video! Enlighten us.

I've got 4 total. Plan to sell them all. Maybe I'll keep one. I picked up two today at the store where I live. About 30 people in line ahead of me when I arrived at 7:45. Everyone got a phone it seems. Or more than one. I also have two being delivered on Nov 17 or so.

People like you are the reason these forums need down votes.

You’re the reason why stores lose inventory for those that one to pay for one for personal use. Greed!

Yeah, this seems incredibly counter-intuitive. They get rid of Touch ID so you don't actually need your thumb to unlock your phone - yet, you still need it to actually get to the home screen after unlocking.

Also...am I the only one who would love an even smaller foot print? While I know this has about the foot print of the 8, I still think the bigger screen will just be too big for my hands. Yes, I do prefer using my phone with one hand as much as possible. It's a phone, not a tablet. Never got the craziness over the Plus versions...

I don’t think that is the reason why Apple got rid of the Home button.

What furniture is that in the video? I'm talking about the tablet used to show off wireless charging.

A few weeks ago I posted about Apple Pay being slow at times and have been doing some experiments since.

What I used to do is simply hold my thumb on my Home button and then tap my phone. When your phone recognizes the NFC signal from the terminal it shows your payment card and then the small circle underneath with the fingerprint animation. Then after a short wait you get the check mark in the circle telling you it’s complete.

What I’ve found is that sometimes this is seamless and fast and other times it takes a few seconds. Sometimes I even need to lift my phone and repeat the tap.

I’ve never had this problem with my Apple Watch - it works the first time virtually every single time. And it’s fast - I get the “tap” on my wrist immediately after holding my Watch to the terminal.

So I started using the method where you double press Home to bring up the Wallet App, authorize with your fingerprint and THEN hold your phone over the terminal. And guess what? Now my phone is like my Watch and I don’t have the issue with delays I had before.

I think there’s an issue with timing when you use the “hold your phone by the terminal with your finger on the Home button” method. And if it’s not right you get a delay (retry) or sometimes a failure and need to tap again. So I now use the double-click method instead, and when I get my iPhone X I won’t miss using Touch ID at all.

I had two Plus generations before the iPhone X: a 6 Plus and a 7 Plus. I haven't returned the 7 Plus to Apple yet (I'm in the IUP), so I spent some time comparing apps side-by-side. The narrower width of the X's display is noticeable, but the smaller overall size of the device makes it worth it to me. It's not much bigger than my 6s.

Face ID has worked nearly flawlessly. The only glitch was when I unlocked the phone in the dark last night: it took a couple of tries. I've also gotten used to the lack of the home button, though I'm still trying to commit the new gestures to muscle memory.

I admit that the notch bothers me a bit more than I thought it would. I edited my lock and home screen pics to have a dark band at the top that hides the notch and blends with the image below, and I sort of like the look so far.

I suspect I'll get used to the notch in a few days.

It’s just so so so crazy that everyone was up in arms about the notch and now a lot of those same exact people are saying it’s fine.

Every year... Lol
Actually the persistent home indicator bar bothers me more. Rene Ritchie said app developers can set it to fade away after like 10 seconds or whatever. But I’m not noticing it with Apple apps like Safari. The black bar is always there. I hope they get rid of it in iOS 12. Or make it go away when content is in that area.

So I have the X. Everything about it is pretty cool, the colors, the weight, the feel, etc.
The biggest drawback though is... the slow refresh rate! this thing is ghosting text as you scroll! Arrgh...
And i was thinking this will be my last iPhone on a yearly upgrade cycle. I may have to get the next one where they offer ProMotion or a better screen.

I wonder what other applications this detailed facial scanning could have. Noticing the signs of a stroke is one I thought of. Perhaps  Watch could add pulse information if available.

Speech training for those with impediments?
Controlling an iDevice purely with small facial/eye movements?

Not enjoying it so far, FaceID is less reliable for me than TouchID so far, seriously thinking about returning it and picking up an 8
