This is extremely frustrating to me. I have my X a month, in a case, but no screen protector. I have NEVER scratched a screen in all the iPhones I've owned. My 6 lived in my front pocket for 3 years and there is not a single mark on it. My X now has 2 small "scuffs" after a month of ownership. I just ordered a tempered glass protector today but really wish Apple would address this.

Address what? You scratched or scuffed the device and it is Apple’s fault?

There is no way a screen on a 1K device should scratch this easily. NO WAY. They touted how much better it is than previous screens and I stated I've owned numerous iPhones previously where the screen NEVER scratched.

So yes, I believe it is their fault. I'm extremely careful with my devices and in a month this thing has more marks on it than a 6 year old one I keep on the dash of my motorcycle for use as an iPod.

I have seen some glass fronts from use around launch with tons of hairline scratches

Mine has a protector cause I’m worried about it shattering in a drop

Apple should offer a clean polish service for $5 at genus Bar
Only if it's a self-serve machine. (you put your phone in the cradle, face up, the machine does the rest).

The Apple store's busy enough...it would be a zoo with all of us obsessive types coming in to get our phones buffed up. :)

I guess it's because I've never been a guy that puts his phone in his front pockets (ie - the ones that are full of lint).

Never, ever had any scratches in my iPhone glass. Still don't on my X. And, yes, it's naked.

Luckily it's winter, so the phone gets carried around in the phone-only pocket in my leather jacket.

In the warmer seasons, it's been the back pocket...a little leery about that with the X caseless though. Don't want to sit on it. :)

Haha yeah I don’t want a hungover mallrat manhandling my Jony Ive relic piece. Not the way Steve would’ve wanted it to go down

If they hired people exclusively with the task of polishing devices, it could earn my trust (the service)

And I’m not careful, I just use it and actuall dropped it on concrete earlier this week. But yeah I just use it without being careful or thinking about it. And I have no scratches worth noting. Sure I’m sure that if I put a torch on it and angle it a certain way you can see some. But no more than the swirls on my much more expensive cars or the stainless and gold on my Rolex watch or just my wedding band.

I name these things to put this a little in perspective. Many people have items much more valuable that scratch. Heck I haven’t even mentioned my wife and children yet :)

If you need me to, when I get home, I can take pics of my wristwatches with brushed steel sections that show wear -- some scratches, some burnishing.

Since nobody asked, I’ll post pics anyways. ;-p

The gold PVD wasn’t immune, either; a few scratches on the clasp near “RADO”:

Sorry about the blur, but you can still see a wear mark:

What exactly would you expect Apple to address? Do you want them to say that their displays are faulty or are prone to scratching? What about others experiences that contradict yours?

Best of luck on getting Apple to fix because you damaged your device.

Is the front glass realy that easily scratched? It's hard for me to believe...

No, but the oleophobic coating scratches somewhat easily and doesn't look very appealing. I buy screen protectors because they are easier to replace than a screen when they get scratches (I'm weird and any visible scratches drive me bonkers).

Didn't ask for your opinion on it. Didn't say I wanted Apple to fix it. Guess you have nothing better to do than be an Apple apologist.

I would expect them to address how easily the screen can be scratched in future phones. That's pretty much it.

In the meantime, I phoned my local Apple store and was actually told to bring it in and they would have a look at it. If I can get the screen replaced for free, why not?

no issues here, and that's with two dogs running around the house, keys in my pocket and having a wife that is nesting right now, so basically taking apart everything and putting it back together.

that means airtools, hammers and screwdrivers and everything all over the house.

my phone has followed me everywhere, I have a leather case on the phone (apples) and an Icarez screen protector and no issues at all here.

sorry for the people that are having them, but don't say apple should fix it because of a scratch you somehow got on there.

you buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini and a rock hits it doesn't mean the paint sucks. just mean some outside force dinged up my car. you could put those protective car films on the front that's color matched and you wouldn't need to worry about it as much.

If I'm walking around with a naked phone, or naked screen, I'm going to get a scratch down the road somehow. if put my case on or screen protector on, ill save it possibly.

pick your battle you nancies!

Shirley you didn't just call me Nancy did you?

What's next, the clear coat on the car paint scratches too easily? But European cars don't do that, they are better engineered.

If you do not want opinions, you should not post here. This is a forum and that is what happens in forums.

Hope you have a great day.

Didn't ask for opinions. Just stated my experience.

Also got a notice you are now "following me"? You a stalker too?

Have a nice day as well.

For the record I think European cars tend to have more coats of paint/possible clear coat as well.

Old European cars definitely did. But as there was another one of those stupid EU directives that unfortunately is no longer true.

Paint is soft and **** but apparently better for the EU.

Q: Whose iPhone is it on page 135? The one that you’ve had photographed after ‘years of abuse’.

Jony Ive: That’s Evans Hankey’s iPhone, who manages the design studio. Isn’t it cool? She destroys her objects. But I thought there was something so charming about that. I thought it was lovely to put that in. We design tools to be used. And she definitely uses them!

I guess my sarcasm didn't come across.

On a serious note, scratch on clear coat is still a scratch, unless the clear coat is scratch resistant. Paying premium for more layers of clear coat, who would have thought, I guess that's is lazy person's engineering and should be taught in engineering schools.
Real engineering would be scratch resistant clear coat of the same thickness, but that is too hard, so let's just spray more layers.

This is a display model at the Birmingham Apple store in the UK.

What exactly is what a demo phone looks like, because they are mishandled and used likely thousands of times a week to look like that. Also, notice the damage is around the lightning port, which no one is being cautious with properly docking it.

Tbh looks like it’s full of marks and scuffs...I was on the fence and likely to buy one tomorrow, but after these pictures I am not going to anymore! The SS will scratch as it is a silly material to be used on a phone, and the SG will also scratch as the coating is very thin (as evidenced by these pictures).

Will sit this one out and see if they improve the coating in Sep. Reminds me of the iPhone 5! My iPhone 6 in SG is still immaculate, I find the (anodisation?) process very durable.

What a pity.
