Still not tempted by iPhone "Notch" @ parity with USA $999 = UK £999 with exchange rate currently at £1.00 = $1.33
price should be £752.44p NOT £999.00

A grand for a phone, you've gotta be kidding.

903.78 GBP you mean.

+20% VAT, talk to your MP about that.

The phone looks great. Besdies the couple issues i've got, I would seriously consider this phone...

EXCEPT FOR that price tag.

how well does the swipe up function with a case? that's the main complaint i have with my lifeproof, it's hard sometimes to get the swipe up to work! with barely any bezel and the NEED to use that feature i'd like to see it with cases on it and it's functionality

Rightfully deserved price with the Note 8...that's for sure. Samsung packs more into its device including a bigger display, 6 gb ram and a S pen so I can see where there pricing structure goes to. I can't say the same for Apple.

no phone deserves the $1000 price tag... the problem with companies like samsung is that when they break the Price barrier it becomes a standard and others will follow.

If Apple raised the prices , no one would care because ALL know that Apple overprices their products . but when Samsung does it, it is a whole different issue , and it gives Justification for that price to be categorized into the phone market.

The note 8 does not deserve $1000 at all ... for that price point one should expect at least 128GB of storage , and Ceramic back instead of glass.

The Chinese market exposed the high prices of Samsung. Phones like Xiami Mix and Mix 2 with Ceramic back and 128G of storage selling for $650 speak volume

with the ridiculous pricing that Apple and Samsung have decided for this round of phones, i'm really looking forward to the other companies coming in with their own takes on these "bezelless" phones at reasonable pricing. Looking forward to see what LG might follow up with, or even OnePlus (if they can learn from the mistakes of the 5). but $1000 for a phone is just pushing the boundaries here.

ehh...at least with Samsung you can trade in old worthless phones like the S5, iphone 5, LG G4 for $200 credit towards the Note 8. Plus, you're also getting free items which you can sell on ebay or swappa to further lower your cost if you so choose.

You should compare the S8 with X since both are 5.8in and have about same specs.
S8: $500-600 X: $999-1199

You can't compare Note 8 which has higher specs incl. bigger 6.3in screen and pen.
With all the bundled assessories for Note 8, the effective price is quite a bit cheaper than X too.
Iphone x will be faster most likely but it won't be light years better. Samsung least has given people options for unlocking the device. Hopefully face ID works great but right now it remains to be seen how great it will be.

Never heard of any android device getting any kind of malware. Think thats clearly a myth that people like to make up about android devices.

Software support is great sure but how often do people keep their phones for 4 years? hell even 2 years is a push for many people these days

Iphone X is going to be a great device but £130 better..that will see.
You have passcode still. Samsung created a sloppy implementation of Facial Recognition. Now people want to act like Samsung had that before. No they had a sloppy version of it before. The only thing Samsung phones had over iPhone was the display and it was better looking but that's gone now.

Don't make me start posting receipts about Galaxy and Android malware.

The Fanboyism here is garishly disturbing. The FACE ID failed in the demo and yet everyone is applauding it.

This will not be easy to use in the car while driving at all. Nobody is even mentioning that.

Hard to use while driving... I wonder why? Almost like you’re not supposed to.

Comparing to IPX to S8:

Screen Size
IPX: 5.3(H)x2.4(W) = 12.72 sq.in - (cut-out area) = around 12 sq in
S8: 5.2(H)x2.5(W) = 13 sq in

IPX is 5mm shorter, 3mm wider and 20grams heavier than S8. IPX has a slightly lower 82% vs 83% screen-body ratio.

Not sure that's a valid comparison. The Samsung Note has a Wacom digitizer, for one thing.

Originally, Wacom was demanding $100 per device to integrate their patented technology. No idea what Samsung is paying. But that's no doubt why Apple developed their own pen method, which without the patent, requires a battery powered pen that is recharged in an awkward way.

Verizon is charging $756 retail for the S8. While it is still less than the $999 for the X, it is closer than the $500-600 you quoted.

LOL ... If I can spend $756 then I can spend $999 as well ... and Remember .. all these people being crying babies here .. will be the first one to get online on OCT 27th Morning to be the first one to place there order...

remember in old days phone fanatics used to spend $899 for Nokia 9500 communicator or Sony Ericsson 900 ...

The notch doesn't really bothered me until they showed us when ur watching a movie in full screen, there no black bars and they embraced the notch even there which looks like cutting out video

This drove me nuts. I really hope they fix this and at least make it an option to put a black bar there for videos and photos.

It's seems if you want to fast charge your $1000 smartphone you have to buy an Apple USB C power adapter and lightning to USB cable.

I think Tim Cooks Apple might actually be the biggest bunch of cheapskates on the planet.

I can see why people would love this phone and Face ID. That said, there are so many times I want/need to unlock my phone without looking at it that Face ID is a no go for me. Without Touch ID, I just have zero interest. Well, the price doesn't help, either.

So how to you use Apple Pay? Seems like it would be clunky now without being able to put your finger on the home button and holding the phone to the whatever device is processing the payment.

Again, everyone wanted it to look like this:
img_0484-png.717047

Instead we get a hindrance on screen ****ing come on.. this is your anniversary phone. It would've been flawless that way.

That could still be done in software. All they would have to do is black-out the “ears”.

Since black pixels don’t consume power with OLED, they could even leave them displayed while the phone is locked (as many Android phones do).

Expect to see jailbreak add-ons to do these things.

You never had to have your finger on touchid at the moment you pay. So the new workflow looks like

- activate Apple Pay by double tapping power button or just placing on/near the pad
- look at phone
- pay

And you can do the last two at the same time if the payment machine is not awkwardly placed, which they rarely are given that people usually have to swipe or insert cards, put pins in and so on.

If this is supposed to be the future of the next generation of mobiles and the the big thing is wireless why do you still only get wired earbuds and a charging cable in the box? They should have at least included a version of AirPods and got the charging mat ready for launch. Then it would have truly been setting the wireless standard. Oh yeah that notch looks awful and it's about time they give up the slim thing with the horrible camera bump. To my mind Apple should be sleek not lumpy with odd screen shapes.

I allways sell my older phone for at least $250 on ebay .. samsung does not bring you any favors when they take your old phone ,

as for the free gifts ? dont worry they are not free , their prices are calculated in it. Samsung in particular drops prices after 8-12 weeks of release ... it is the same.

The new camera system has lots of potential. I'd like to wait for a few iterations of X until they integrate "air based" gestures. Not sure if the 1st gen X hardware is capable of that?

Considering used iphone 5 sells for ~$90 on ebay, getting $200 credit is quite generous.

Does every developer need to re-code their app to support face? or will the phone just use FaceID in place of TouchID on the X?

Gonna be pissed if I have to wait 3 to 6 months for app maker/banks and everyone else to recode for FaceID.

I'm going to get the 256GB model but I see this phone full of compromises for lack of home button.

No reachability.

Having to swipe down from the right for control centre. And the left for notifications. Why not from the bottom left and right?

No battery percentage indicator?

No 3G/4G indicator?

It has fast charging but you need to buy the charger and cable separately. You'd think for the price they'd include them?

Half the brightness of the Note 8. Hopefully true tone will compensate for that.

Of course no Touch ID. I often like to unlock my phone whilst it's resting on the table. You do have tap to wake tough.

How do you turn it off if the power button is now for Siri?

Apple seem to have decided to embrace the notch. Replacing the iconic round home button for the notch as the iPhone identifier. Except it's in everything. Cutting into the background of apps from what I could tell.

Lol, is there anything else? Remind me again why I'm getting it?

It failed because it had been rebooted and Craig panicked. He should’ve just passcoded in, then showed it. As to using your phone when driving...don’t. You’ll kill somebody.

Such a comment warrants a very late response.

You shouldn't *use your iPhone while driving......Period.

*=not using it except for looking at the screen for navigation purposes.
