Wow I rarely ever log into post but this is some next level coping with a strong name to logic ratio. I hope you aren't serious.

Like that's some olympic gold medal worthy mental gymnastics

The notch is terrible design, compounded by the fact that they don't bother blacking it out when necessary. In what world is this acceptable?

Umm well you’re wrong lol. You should go back to not posting often.

Now if you really want to debate something about the screen you could debate the fact that the little extra space the notch brings may be usable or not?

But there is no argument here, the notch creates a little more screen space than say a galaxy with a straight thin bezel. The proof is right in front of you.

Normal humans aren’t lazy.
Which is why everyone drives manual cars with no power steering or electric windows, everyone walks or cycles everywhere, no-one is overweight and the TV remote control never really became a commercial success.

Normal humans are, by their very nature, incredibly lazy.

If Samsung extended their Note 8 screen into the top bezel, to the right and left of the camera/speaker etc, in what sense would they have ‘removed’ or ‘cut into’ the screen?

This is a genuine question not a troll. I’ll draw a mock-up if my description isn’t very good and people can’t visualise what I mean.

Sorry but this iPhone X is the upgrade for the normal iphone. For the iphone plus the upgrade is coming next year with that 6.4”
So how is this piece of crap this X model vs iphone 6 or iphone 7 with 4.7”?

I said the X is a piece of crap when in LANDSCAPE mode. I don't need to hold it or use it to comment about the X in landscape mode, I have explained my reasons why. I will reserve my judgement about the rest of the X once I test it.

I am not sure why people say this. The notch is a design decision that isn't going anywhere. There isn't anything to defend, it is what it is. Some people like it, some don't. Both are fine because it's a personal preference. You saying the notch is horrible design holds as much weight as me saying it's amazing design.

It's a design flaw. Anything else said
Amazing how a handful of people keep knocking the X at every turn. What is motivating them to go so hard after a phone?
[doublepost=1507654672][/doublepost]

Are you sure, he's only posted like a million posts everywhere knocking it. I kind of figured he was undecided ;)

Just in case you forgot, this is Macrumours, thousands of people around the world come here to talk mainly about iphones and anything iphone related. If you were hoping to see discussions about tennis, go to tenniswarehouse.com/forums

I love the notch. I think it's a seamless integration of software and hardware. An ideal location for the status bar.

If I was a 6 star hotel builder and you ordered from me a 6 star hotel complete with the lot, and when you inspected the hotel after I built it, you saw that the boiler equipment room for the laundry was in the crystal dining room and piano bar, would you be impressed? Because seeing the notch on the oled display is like putting the boiler equipment room for the laundry in the crystal dining room and piano bar. There is nothing seemless about it. All the sensors being under the screen....now that would have been a seemless integration. The notch is a compromise, no one in their right mind would want it there, not users, not devs, not Apple. People wil accept it and live with it but don't confuse that with liking or wanting it. No one wants a notch.

Talk about and discuss phones sure, offer your opinion sure, but there are some who are posting in every thread they can something to trash the X. It just gets old.

If that bothers you and upsets you that much you're more than free to use the ignore feature.
Or even better step away from the computer and take a few deep breaths.
It will be ok :D

Click on my handle/user-name. When the pop up box opens up select ignore.
And there you have it :D
Everyone's opinion that bothers you, stresses you out and you dont agree with you can keep doing the same.
Be careful though, you can only ignore up to 1000 users. :D
Some have hit the limit.

Good idea, how exactly do I add you to ignore

It’s illusive to think Apple, or any smartphone manufacturer for that matter, currently has the technology to implement sensors under an OLED display panel. Many have patents, yes, but the technology to mass produce such a product for a reasonable price is something not yet attainable. So unless Apple were to hold back their iPhone redesign for another 3 or 4 years, of course they had to compromise.

However, that being said, iOS is a platform with many signature design items; the status bar has, and likely always will occupy a portion of the uppermost display. Apple were intelligent with the iPhone X’s design- to maximise screen estate, they cut out a small area around the sensors to display this static information. The rectangular display remaining could then be used solely for content. That to me, is a pretty seamless integration. I don’t see how this is an issue unless viewing content, besides video, in landscape; something I never seem to do on my larger in width, iPhone 7+.

Whilst I’d never explicitly ask for a notch, I embrace Apple’s intuition to do something different. Like it or not, the notch is the future home button signature of the iPhone.

I don‘t see the problem with the first picture. And why are there white bars on the second picture? The green background should fill the entire screen!

Someone quote me. Are we sure it doesn’t work landscape like the plus?

it doesn't work like the plus, it works landscape like the regular size.
no rotation, no two pane. i am used to the plus so it will be missed.

Crosspost from another thread because I think it’s relevant here too and some people might not see it there:

The point is that Apple used the notch as a loophole for marketing the iPhone as “edge to edge” and 5.8 inches. Both of those are not true. The other fact is that if they had gone with a uniform screen, all the camera sensors and everything else that is in the notch could have been condensed into a much thinner top bezel.

It isn’t a loop hole. They announced it with a notch. It has a 5.8 screen and is longer than 8.

Put this in another thread but adding to this discussion also because i think its relative.

Here are some interesting tests I ran on the Xcode iPhone X simulator. I used the full screen options to pay back all the videos. There was no "zoomed" option at this point in the software, so it is either playing the video like this or playing it in a browser window.

Using Safari I played this 16:9 video off Youtube.com. Please note this is not using the YouTube app only the safari browser.

Screen Shot 2017-10-12 at 2.42.53 PM.png

Next I played the following video through the safari browser and selected the full screen option. It is a 21:9 video sample. youtu.be/iGnwVyQFT4A Again remember I selected full screen as there was no "zoomed" option.

Screen Shot 2017-10-12 at 3.00.34 PM.png

Here is a screen shot of the controls that were available to me from this view.

Screen Shot 2017-10-12 at 3.09.09 PM.png

Next used 4k video downloader to "borrow" the video from the link above. I was able to place it directly into the image gallery and play it as you would any video stored directly on the phone bypassing the browser. I selected full screen and this is how it looked.

Screen Shot 2017-10-12 at 2.59.19 PM.png

Add again a show of the controls that were available to me in the gallery app.

Screen Shot 2017-10-12 at 3.10.51 PM.png

And just to prove i had it loaded in the gallery
