I'm a little nervous about the change in size but think it will be more comfortable to use. I can use my plus one-handed for the most part but it does wobble and make me almost drop it once in a while.

The iPhone X screen is a bit narrower but also much taller. You lose less than 1% of usable screen space compared to the 8 Plus but the phone’s physical size is similar to iPhone 8.

And remember due to the higher 1125 x 2436 resolution you are getting MORE content horizontally and vertically than the Plus, it just may appear slightly smaller on the screen than the Plus.

I know this has probably been said already but I think what you're saying is technically false. Let me explain why.

The amount of content that fits on a display (at least for iOS development) isn't determined by raw pixel count, it's determined by 'points' on the display and by scaling. The iPhone X's display has the exact same number of 'points' horizontally as the iPhone 8 despite their different resolutions. Sure, there's about 20% more 'points' vertically in iPhone X when compared to the 8 but they both have the same display scaling. What that means is if you load MacRumors on the 8 and X, the images, text and whatever will all appear the same size on both devices (albeit, you'll just get to see a few more lines of text vertically on the X). If we add the 8 Plus into the mix, things change up a bit because the 8 Plus has more 'points' to work with on the display, in other words it appears to be a denser display.

I suppose a decent way of seeing this in action is if you play with the display scaling settings on your retina Mac. If you set the scaling to 'Larger Text' on a 15 inch MacBook Pro and then set the scaling of a 13 inch MacBook Pro to be 'More Space', which display looks bigger? Or rather, which display can fit more content? The 13 inch one because it has a dense scaling applied. I think that's the same thing going on here with the X, yes it's a bigger measured display and yes it has more raw pixels than a Plus device but the software is more a regular non-Plus device.

It's been said before but I'll say it again: the X is going to feel like a taller iPhone 8, kinda like going from the 4s to the 5. If you're coming from a Plus device, I reckon some people are going to *feel* as though the display is smaller, simply because all the assets on the X are scaled up to be bigger than that of the Plus (at least when web browsing). I'm okay with that for now but I'm certainly going to buy the Plus version of the X next year if they have it.

Sorry if this was a naff explanation, I'm tired and I just want my X :D

I am honestly glad it's smaller, as I've become tired of carting the plus around. I gave it a fair shot for two iterations (6S+ and the 7 Plus), but for me it is just too big to use comfortably.

Had the X not been released, I would have downsized to the regular 8.

Just measured the S8 case with the iPhone X. The iPhone is a bit wider and a little shorter than the S8. So it would be comfortable to hold.

Yo...I TOTALLY just made a similar thread! They'll likely get merged. My shock came from receiving my tempered glass. I opened the package and was in SUPER shock. I know we get more screen but it's so skinny and small. Sheesh!

The s8 is kinds the same thing, it's a new fade and I prefer the wider aspect ratio.

Just picked up my new case from Best Buy in preparation of my iPhone X coming Nov 3rd, and although I saw the picture comparisons, now that I'm holding my iPhone X case next to my iPhone 6s Plus, the iPhone X is small and a little disappointing. I guess I’m wanting an iPhone X Plus with a 6.5 or 7’ screen. This is bothering more than the notch!

This is worrying me :(

My God you guys, what are you talking about??

The iPhone X has a different aspect ratio (19.5:9 with notch and 18.5:9 without the notch) than the 8/8+ (16:9) so yeah, the 5.5 and 5.8 is not comparable, I did this pictures a few days just to get an idea of the new X screen size.

It is longer but not as wide like the Plus, I'm coming from a Plus model, so I'm pretty sure it will feel more like a 8 Plus more than a 8 normal.

I personally find the plus phones to be hideous and outdated feeling. It literally feels like you’re using something from the 90’s. Performance is another story.

The X is a great balance between a large enough screen and a great overall size phone. It looks modern and I’m sure it feels modern. You’re getting the best performance iPhone has to offer in a more practical size. It’s a win win.

I would loved to have had an iPhone 7 Plus as a kid living in the 90s.

Love it cuz I downsized from 6s Plus to a 7 regular and the 7 size is the perfect size for any phone. And you’re telling me you’re giving more screen space in almost the same form factor? Even better.

No one who was actually living in the 90s would ever say that. Have you ever taken a look at the popular phones from the 90s? Any iPhone back then would have looked like a futuristic prop from a Star Trek movie. Geez a phone with hardly any buttons. People's heads would have spontaneously combusted.

You’re literally comparing the 6s Plus to an empty case. Of course that’s going to make the 6s Plus look good! ;)

That said, the X is going to seem small to Plus users. Even though the X is (almost) all screen, the aspect ratio is different and I think many Plus users will feel like it’s a downgrade. The true test will be comparing them side by side and in person. The OLED display might dazzle you enough to make you forget all about the Plus.

I hope the OLED display dazzles me enough. I of course knew what I bought. I'm just saying, those who have the iPhone 6/7/8 non plus size users that what a bigger screen without the bigger size phone (like my wife) are going to be in heaven!! For me, when I put my new iPhone case next to my 6s Plus, my brain was disappointed even though I previously knew it was going to be that smaller size. The two main features I personally love in a phone is screen size and battery size. I'm sure I will love my iPhone X, but I relized I'm not personally going to be in heaven until the iPhone X Plus comes out. I put out my original post because I guarantee some iPhone Plus users are going to be shocked when they first handle their new iPhone X, it’s tiny after holding the Plus size for two years and your brain tricks you toward disappointment at first because at least for me bigger is better in this case in my brain.

Thanks for the wallpaper comparison provides a nice way to see the difference. I have a 7 Plus and wanted the X for the all screen and I got my E2E glass screen protectors and was surprised how small is felt. I do have a 12.9 2nd Gen Pro for large screen use. I am hoping I won’t be disappointed but once Friday arrives I will know.

We’re talking about exactly what we were talking about. Keep up. You typed all of that just for what we were saying to STILL be true. The X is a smaller phone. We’ll deal or we won’t but that fact that it’s smaller remains true. Period.

I was so unsure of the iPhone X's screen that I ended up buying (and returning) the 8+ as I pondered which I wanted...

Honestly, going back to my 7+ was HARD. The TrueTone display, speed, wireless charging, and increased heft of the 8+ is SOOOO much better than the 7+. To be honest, I'm still not 100% sure I'll love the X. But, I have 14 days to figure it out, and I can always buy the 8+ again. No big deal..

But, from the perspective of which has more flair, and which would attract more looks and questions from others (a good thing in my life), the X wins hands down.

I pre-ordered Friday morning with a 2-3 week wait (Nov 17-24), which gives me a chance to see an iPhone X in person around Nov 5-7, and compare it to my iPhone 7+. I can always cancel my order if something about it is unappealing and do another great year with my 7+ and see what my alternatives are in September 2018.

On the surface, somewhat similar screen real estate in a smaller, more portable form factor is appealing.
