I think Apple should've done a 6.4" phone considering people are paying over 1k for the phone. The Note is way bigger than the iPhone and it's got a bigger display and is an amazing phone in its own right. However, I will say that the 5.8" phone is kind of the perfect balance of large and small size.

Apple could only order a certain amount of OLED screens from Samsung. Because of limited OLED supply, they couldn’t really offer an additional 6.4” option this year.

I got the the plus versions mostly for the camera and the 1920x1080 screen. The physical size is a bit unruly.

I would have liked to start with the 4.7 in model, if not for those two things. The 5s screen seems too small to me now. My son has my old one.

With the iPhone X, the resolution is a bit more than the plus. Also it has the same, even a little bit better camera.

I think this is a good step. Who knows what will happen next year. I am hoping the price will come down, but who knows. I don't care, LED vs OLED. They both look good.

I can agree with that. But honestly, what’s the screen size that hits a boiling point before regressing again? I say 7-inches.

The 6.3” Note 8 is pretty big. After owning the S8+ and iPhone 8+ It’s really hard to get a determine what makes the most sense with these new aspect ratios.

Yo...I TOTALLY just made a similar thread! They'll likely get merged. My shock came from receiving my tempered glass. I opened the package and was in SUPER shock. I know we get more screen but it's so skinny and small. Sheesh!

Same when I received my ZAGG a couple weeks ago.

Yeah I am curious also. Seems like it’s there is more screen from the height aspect, but not necessarily from the width. So the phone itself seems slimmer. I would have preferred both taller and wider real estate. But that is just me.

I'll add some supporting images:

Stop worry about numbers and removing the notch area etc. and look as this great graphic.

This shows it perfectly with the purple Plus right at the bottom of the notch (and dont forget the Plus DOES have a status bar that is always there except full screen video that occupies the notch too)

The X screen is still longer, and the Plus barely pokes out on each side. The X screen is between the regular and Plus wide, but longer than the plus.

So you are getting decently similar area, and more content without scrolling, in a phone body that is narrower (and shorter) to hold than the Plus.

And remember due to the higher 1125 x 2436 resolution you are getting MORE content horizontally and vertically than the Plus, it just may appear slightly smaller on the screen than the Plus.

Just picked up my new case from Best Buy in preparation of my iPhone X coming Nov 3rd, and although I saw the picture comparisons, now that I'm holding my iPhone X case next to my iPhone 6s Plus, the iPhone X is small and a little disappointing. I guess I’m wanting an iPhone X Plus with a 6.5 or 7’ screen. This is bothering more than the notch!
You're just holding the case.

If you review the size of the screen you can tell what is actually the size of the screen compared to the PLUS phones, .. and it's not any smaller. What's there less of is the 'black' bar.

I guess you could cancel your order perhaps? And wait until there's a model available in a store to try.

It has been known for months, that the iPhone X is about the size of an iPhone 7. There should be no reason why the OP or any other regular here is shocked or surprised that the new phone is smaller than plus size models.
Indeed, the @op is talking about the "case" he is holding. the visual screen is actually bigger ~ so it just matters how it feels in real life once someone has the phone.. vs expectations

I have been struggling with the X as well. I have been a plus owner since it was first available. I love it, but admit to the fact that it can be too big. But my big thing on phones is the camera, it is the one thing I use a lot. So I was disappointed that they put the best cameras in the X (2.4 telephoto, dual OIS, and the portrait mode on the front). Had they put this in the 8 plus I would have upgraded to that from my 7 plus, hands down. But Apple had to go and be Apple, releasing what they did, knowing that will leave them room for the "innovative" large display next year or the year after. And I am not a fan of the new aspect ratios in phones.

I preordered the x knowing that I could return and just eat a 50 dollar restocking fee from my carrier. I have played with the galaxy S8 in store, since it is the closest thing for comparison, and it "feels" too small. Yesterday I decided to play with the simulator in Xcode, and I highly recommend anyone on the fence do the same. The difference does not seem to be a bad as I thought when running them at actual size , side by side. The worst parts, for me, is photo viewing is smaller, as well as most videos. The text wrapping is not great, and the phone , for the most parts, is not great in landscape mode. This is definitely a portrait orientation device. It will take some getting use to, and Im still not totally on board and feel like theres a 90 percent chance Im gonna return the X.

Im glad to see there are other plus owners having the same anxiety as me.

any idea if the X will come with the Display Zoom feature located in settings?
Correct me if Im wrong, but I believe this setting is only available on the plus models. The X, will have no such setting. In the simulator it does NOT reorient in landscape mode by default. The UI on the X will behave very much the same way as the regular sized 4.7 in phones.

You need to realize that the Plus model has huge bezels, while the X is all screen. A 7" phone is insane, just buy an iPad...

For me, I consider the X a definite downgrade size-wise from my 7 plus, but I'll suffer with it until they release a plus version of the X, hopefully in a year.
The size is very similar, why do you think the screen is a definite down grade size wise?

No.. you have more pixels in the same space.. as the plus, even actually more visually ..
they were able to remove besel, that's why it feels smaller, but .. i mean.. look at the pictures.. check the tech specs.

am i missing something here that so many are so confused about this? (not trying to be mean, but.)

not missing anything, people are freaking out before even seeing it in person

From page 4 @shyam09

That says its all and the top of the Plus screen is lined up with the bottom of the notch, so no one need say you dont count the notch; it's not here.

Tiny bit narrower and taller than the Plus. But much higher resolution, so you'll actually get more content on the screen. And in a much smaller form factor.

you are just seeing the size of the phone and not the overall size due to the bezels.

yeah it won't be as big as the plus but people knew this going into it. if I needed a bigger screen to do things then I pick up my iPad Pro 10.5 or MacBook. Can't wait to get the x in my hands on Friday

You can't tell by holding the case, the plus has almost an inch bezel on the top and bottom while the X doesn't. The screen size of the X is 5.8" vs 5.5" of the plus. It's true the aspect ratio is different, but the X is very close to the plus

Correct. The better test would be if you ordered a screen protector for the X put that over the X screen; the actual screen size.

I just did (dont have another device to snap a pic), it's not that big a difference.

The size is perfect for me. I had a 6. I have been going back and forth for a year as to whether to get the Plus. I wanted the large screen but not the bulk of carrying it around.

The X is perfect. Bigger screen and basically the same size as my 6. I already got the same Otterbox Commuter case and can't believe how close in size they are.

Here's the best test if you have a Plus on you.

Pull up your Plus keyboard and where the Q starts (left edge of the letter Q itself) and P ends (right edge of the letter P itself) is where it cuts off on the X screen protecter exactly.

That's all you're losing horizontally, but taller. Maybe 1/8 inch each side?

What a great way to put it into some perspective. It’s such a small amount of space. People are freaking out over something that is going to be so minor.

Humans adapt to change. If you use it daily you won’t even notice the tiny change in screen space after a couple of days. I can’t wait to read about the people complaining about screen size next week saying how wonderful this phone is.
