The notch doesn’t bother me, I thought the sides and bottom were ‘screen’... but it appears there’s still a thin bezel.

I know, first world problems. I won’t lose sleep over it.

I’m glad there is a thin bezel.. I use a case and worry that swiping at the edges is going to be hard enough.. and a case will have to be super slim on the front

Below is what i mean. Some apps just show the clock and signal in the corners.

In safari you still get the site link and a bit of wasted space. Would be nice if that went away when you scrolled.

it probably shrinks when you scroll up.. how it does on current iPhones/iOS 11

(though this simulation you're showing might actually be in the shrunken state)

Ah!! I don’t use a case or screen protector, haven’t since the iPhone 3GS, I may make an exception for the X.

I can guarantee that most plus owners who use the X for a week or two will get used to the different aspect ratio. It sounds like it is going to be a minimal decrease in useable space. It’s not like we are going for 5.5 to 4”.

It’s going to be slightly thinner but a bit taller. Some might decide it doesn’t work for them, others will. That’s why they have return policies.
There are a lot of haters here. I don't know why they insist on bashing the iPhone X before they've even experienced it hands-on. We're getting a phone that is almost as small as the 7 but has nearly the same screen estate as the 7+. is that not what people wanted? I know that's what I wanted.

iPhones are just too slippery for me.. and thin. I would drop mine for sure without a case.

I'm going from owning Plus models to the X. I've done my homework and know that the display (excluding bezels) is about 1/4" narrower than the Plus and only a hair wider than the non-Plus models. Useable display area is definitely much closer to non-Plus than Plus models. There have been some detailed analyses posted online since the keynote that clearly demonstrate this.

However, I still feel most people (even those coming from Plus phones) will end up with the overall impression that they have an improved display in front of them. The narrow bezels, OLED, Tru-Tone, and much higher DPI than the non-Plus phones will make the display feel very premium. It will be terrific to look at.

The reduced width will take some getting used to for web pages, viewing or editing documents, etc. I don't see it as a huge change, but for those people highly focused on maximizing the display size, the X may not be a good choice. Personally, I like a roomy screen but it's not the top priority and I'll get over it. I still want the X for many other reasons. I have an iPad Pro and a Mac when I really need more display.

I took that screenshot when it was scrolled up. The non scrolled state shows the address bar with textarea.

I like the way chrome does it. Don’t even show the address when you scroll. 9/10 you already know what site you’re on.

Don’t forget that the bezels on the current iPhone plus sizes are huge and is the only thing that the x has gotten rid of. Would have been nice if they could’ve launched a x plus this year though

The Apple employees daughter who was playing with it, it looked really large in her hands. Maybe she has small hands.

  • iPhone X display = 2.46" wide
  • iPhone Plus display = 2.69" wide
Take the horizontal resolution and divide by the PPI. Anyone with elementary math skills can calculate the display width.

The iPhone X display also has a smaller area compared to Plus. This is a mathematical fact.

FAC.TU.AL.

Exactly this.

...the only thing? No. Not at all.

I'll add some supporting images:

<just thought this was a cool picture>

that is great layout! I can see Plus owner gonna be fine with it. I have 6 plus 3 years i love it. I believe I will like iPhone X it will fit in one hand and will be lighter.
Also I saw image iPhone 8 and iPhone X I can see text little bigger on X than 8.
basically i think i won't notice too much different coming down from plus.
But my hands will feel different size that trick my mind.

If you want to include the status bar area, the iPhone X is even at a bigger disadvantage in terms of usable display area.

The iPhone 8 Plus status bar is 20 points tall. The X status bar is 40 points tall. This is to acccomodate the notch.
20 points tall but significantly wider.

I love my plus. I enjoy the size of the screen and almost everything about it. But I recently set up and worked with my wife's 8 for a bit and I found something surprising; I am a much more accurate typist on the less wide screen. With the plus I tend to hit "n" instead of space bar quite often. Autocorrect picks up on it usually when it's just two words, but if I string three or four words together it's usually a lost cause.

Interested in testing my theory on the X. I may just be a lousy touch screen typist in denial. lol.

Not to worry . . . Here is the iPhone 6s Plus (gray case) underneath the iPhone X case (black) and then side by side.
On the left (both with cases) the X is right on top of the 6s Plus. It's more about the screen size, IMHO, than the physical size. At least that's the way I see it.

I wish I could find a few examples of the same web page loaded on a plus and an x side by side. That would give me the most accurate representation of screen real-estate.

I'm hoping so! LOL!

It should. It’s all about perspective. You’re looking at a clear, unlit piece of glass (you’re screen protector.) Which on its own will look small. But once you see that screen lit up against the whole phone body, that ratio and perspective changes. Because you’re no longer just looking at a small piece of glass but a screen that covers and lights up pretty much the whole front of the phone’s total footprint.

By how much? Give us the actual dimensions without including bezels...including those alongside the screen on a 7 or 8 Plus. That's your claim. Back it up.
There are plenty of threads about the actual screen size of the X compared to the 7/8 Plus, why don't you go look it up yourself?

Smaller hands make the Plus model look unwieldy, but when I use it the size just seems normal.

Hand size creates an optical illusion of sorts when it comes to device and screen size.

Do people not research this stuff before ordering? The screen size and phone size has been known for months. There are some real winners here.

And dozens of threads about the issue plus several YouTube videos.

The compromise of the X display shape and size is not new information by any means.

I ordered a couple dollar cheap plastic case from china eons ago so I could “hold” the X .. for me it was the only way to really decide if I was ok with the size. Glad I did.

I made a dummy model (see pictures posted here) and did the same. I like the size as well.

:) I failed at getting a cutout that really gave me the feel of the phone. I haven’t seen your pictures but good job if you were able to do that!

where can I find that vid?
[doublepost=1509253407][/doublepost]Coming from the 7 and never owning the plus I'm exited to get the X and have something that still fits in my pocket but has a bigger screen than my current 7.
