  • iPhone X display = 2.46" wide
  • iPhone Plus display = 2.69" wide
Take the horizontal resolution and divide by the PPI. Anyone with elementary math skills can calculate the display width.

The iPhone X display also has a smaller area compared to Plus. This is a mathematical fact.
What is the usable display area of each phone?

I wish I could find a few examples of the same web page loaded on a plus and an x side by side. That would give me the most accurate representation of screen real-estate.

:) I failed at getting a cutout that really gave me the feel of the phone. I haven’t seen your pictures but good job if you were able to do that!

Here it is.

Right next to my 6S Plus

It's the 5" Google Pixel 1 & 2 without the forehead and chin. It's the perfect size for me. V30, Pixel 2 XL, and Note8 are all above 150mm in height.

The X is about the height of the S7 flat. Shorter than the S8 with same screen size. Much easier to have your thumb pull down the notification shade.

iPhone Plus = 12.90 in²

iPhone X = 12.79 in² (13.06 in² minus notch area of 0.27 in²)
Now can we take off the top area with the icons for each phone? The top part of both displays where the status icons are is dead space we should subtract that as well.

I’m actually like looking forward to the smaller form factor. I love the Plus modes but sometimes the size can be overwhelming.

Once upon a time people said the same about a 3.5" phone. Then 4" was the ideal size, and we know how it's gone since then. The bottom line is, the larger the display the more you can do on the device comfortably. So people will take all the screen size they can get as long as it still fits in their hand and pocket.

I remember that, because I was one of them. The only difference is I knew - and still know - there’s a certain size a phone can reach before it becomes way too big to comfortably handle. And I assume that day is coming sooner than we realize.

I think Apple should've done a 6.4" phone considering people are paying over 1k for the phone. The Note is way bigger than the iPhone and it's got a bigger display and is an amazing phone in its own right. However, I will say that the 5.8" phone is kind of the perfect balance of large and small size.

I can agree with that. But honestly, what’s the screen size that hits a boiling point before regressing again? I say 7-inches.
for me the iPhone X is kind of the perfect size. I want a big phone but I don't want a HUGE phone. The phone won't replace my iPad of MacBook right now. So...
