Every time. The scalpers drive up the waits for those looking to actually buy and additionally try to make a profit on those they screwed out of a decent shipping time.

It'd be awesome if Apple made a move to screw all those looking to take advantage of others.

Go ahead and report the listings. It'll help take some of them down. At very least it means a lot more work for those trying to profit from the release and driving up the wait times for legit customers.
But what makes your money and your desire for the phone any more valid than someone elses? This I don't get. You (generally speaking, not you specifically) want the phone to use and someone else want's the phone to sell to someone else who wants to use it but has poor impulse control and more disposable income. Is the person who wants to use the phone somehow more deserving?

I understand freedom of this economy, but quite honestly people that do this make me sick. There are plenty of people who want these devices, and it also sucks that people will be willing to pay those prices.

But, that is my use case, and I am only in control of my own actions and conscience .

It also bothers me that some of my favorite tech podcasters are actually participating in this type of activity too.

Although I would probably never buy an iPhone at those prices, but I have no problem with their practice. Scalping require information, capital, taking risk and sometimes standing in line for hours. Yes, the price is gorged, but the transaction is voluntary. This is not much different than any other business model. The only scenario which I would against scalping is when the subject is living necessities (basic housing, food, clothing) because in such case, buyer often don't have a choice or alternative.

How much depreciation did you pay on that iPhone 7+?

$949 MSRP on the i7+, bought while traveling in Oregon so no sales tax. If I can pull off this sale correctly, I'll end up seeing $0 loss from my wallet on the upgrade, but theoretically it lost 50% value.

excactly my strategy as well, I am even thinking of selling them both. I still rock a 6s and don't need an update, the 6s still does everything I want fine.
Its just ask and demand, Apple creates dumb shortages and apple fanboys are craving for their newest social life enhancement tool.
Even thinking of skipping the X and waiting for the Xs , the refresh will be due in 9 months...

Totally there with you, I'm honestly contemplating selling both and keeping the 7 plus. I'm not sold on FaceID yet, but I figured if I waited to order it, I'd get stuck in this whole mid 2018 delivery hype. I'll keep one for a week or so and see how the reviews bold and how the response is. If people hate it, I'm selling it. If it works, I'll keep it.

Damn right! I genuinely see nothing wrong with this.

It's a free market and if someone wants to pay extra to get it quickly from you, that's their choice. Apple charges so much and there is no law against getting your hustle on.

Absolutely. Capitalism at it's best. I did the favor of staying up all night to order, and my time is valuable, so your paying for the privilege to order at your convenience, lol.

Apple better make sure they have ample supply launch day and meet this demand. The next best thing to getting your hands on an iPhone X (at retail price) is to see scalpers have to take all their devices and return them to the stores.

Or you'll do what???????

That's my point. People don't have to buy the new iPhone. Apple knows that. Life will continue to exist if and when launch day supplies aren't met.

I guess their attempt to not offer the service free version at launch didn’t help slow this down.

With the phones already being linked to accounts ready to activate upon initial power how are they being sold unopened?

I'm curious about this as well. I ordered a 64gb Verizon iPX through Apple and paid full retail. I got hit with the $30 activation fee and it is tied to my VZ account (I don't have the option to upgrade my line if I wanted to also buy a 256gb X, because the 64gb is attached to my line). It isn't physically possible for me to even pre-order two phones because of this. My understanding is that as soon as the X is powered on it'll deactivate my iPhone 7 and become the active line. I don't see how it is possible to sell a new and sealed X clear and free of any carrier / SIM issues / risk.

I have no intention of selling mine on 11/3. I've gone through two crappy Androids over the past month and am sick of the awful battery life of my iPhone 7 on iOS 11. I can't wait to get the X. That said, the early bird gets the worm. I don't feel bad for idiots who pay scalpers. You should've gotten up at 2 AM like the rest of us. Same deal with Nintendo Switch. I pre-ordered it months in advance and got it on launch day.

As much as I despise the practice of scalping, I also don't get the judge-y attitude some people seem to have specifically for electronics. What people consider worth spending their money on is obviously a personal and relative thing. People have been paying a lot more than $2000 for a single Hamilton ticket or for other sold out concerts or sporting events.

And it’s everything now not just IPhones if you want to see a movie .. concert ... buy anything like a SNES classic there all gone because of bots and scalpers and it’s now sad it’s our new normal.. I totally agree with you! I had friends last night get preorders for launch specifically for scalping and I had friends whom deserved preorders for personal use miss out badly
How does someone deserve a pre-order?

Why am I not surprised?

It's sad, but there are wealthy people out there that are willing to fork out that kind of cash just to satisfy their itch. And unfortunately, the scalper benefits from it.

Make no mistake, a really significant chunk of day 1 purchases, is for the resale market.

Why is it sad if buying a phone is their equivalent of you eating a meal out one night? There are people out there looking at you eating a meal out saying it is a waste of money satisfying a craving when you could just make food at home for less.

Hey everyone! Best Buy is selling the iPhone X for $100 above retail!

Simpsons-angry-mob-pitchfork-torches.jpg

Inb4 we heard about sellers getting robbed trying to flip these phones on craiglist.....

This is funny... People living in america complaining about capitalism. Free market is free market whatever I do with my phone is my business and whoever buys it for X amount of money its their business

damn, folks still don’t have a grip on this thing called the free market. :)) supply and demand, you gotta pay to play.

I don't care if I look but but I'm seriously considering selling my 256GB iPhone X here in the UK for a profit and just waiting and buying one in the states when I go over. Could very well save me a small fortune.

Now: I ordered two, so I could sell one on eBay for twice as much! Free market economy, baby!

Five minutes ago: Best Buy should be ashamed for price gauging customers with a $100 premium! How dare they!!!

Perspective, how it changes things... :D

At least where I live the local police station has a dedicated Craigslist transaction room in which one can sell while completely on video. If your selling a legit product, and not drugs, this will 100% prevent stupidity.

Edit: Of course you could be robbed in the parking lot, but the buyer would have to know what you look like or see the white box in your hand. But this again is a dumb idea.

I was prepared and had alarms set up and began refreshing on the dot. The Apple Store app and website both were down for me for 16 minutes. By the time it finally went up, the phone has sold out.
I was going to mention your scenario but I didn't think it went down for some people this time. Anyway, you still have a chance in store, are you going to be lining up?
