Given the iPhone X's design was leaked months before it was unveiled, many people wondered how Apple would choose to approach the notch housing the device's new TrueDepth front camera and facial recognition system.

Now that the iPhone X is official, we know the answer. Apple's new human interface guidelines for the device advise developers to embrace the notch by ensuring the layout of their apps fill the entire screen. In fewer words, Apple doesn't want developers to hide the notch or swipe indicator by placing black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

Article Link: Everything You Need to Know About the iPhone X's Controversial Notch

I don't really think the notch is "controversial." Do that many people REALLY care?

As usual, everyone will criticize it before release and then say how great it is once it is in hand. Been that way since the iPhone 4.

I think it looks atrocious and calls WAY to much attention to itself for no reason what so ever. As much as i love apple, i just cant abide this insistence on drawing attention to the dam ears for no reason what so ever making the product look so much worse! Every single fan render had the same idea of blacking out the ears with the exception of the time and status bars and it worked so much better! this...this is the equivalent of buying a brand new beautiful OLED TV, Paying a premium price for it, then every single time you watch the dam thing it has a notch cut out of it for no real reason drawing attention to it and not the beautiful quality of the rest of the screen.

I honestly don't see this thing as a purchase for me unless they fix that really idiotic design choice! I firmly believe Steve Jobs would never have approved of this!

What bothers me more than the notch is the width. It's the width of the 8, not the Plus.

I think a lot of Plus users are going to be in for a nasty surprise when they upgrade to the X, thinking it's a Plus without bezels.

The X design is amazing, only paid shills and haters don't like it. But let's see...

- iPad is lame, has less storage than a Nomad - CmdrTaco famous last words.
- iPhone is garbage, it will have no market share - I believe Steve Balmer said that one.
- iPad reminds me of feminine hygiene products - haters before iPad launch.
- Air Pods are trash, they will fall out of your ears and get lost - how's that going for you haters, looks like Air Pods selling like hotcakes.

Now "9/14/2017 - iPhone X design is garbage" - haters. Own it haters, carve that in a stone tablet, own it and come back next year and let the world realize that you are nothing but hater a$$ haters.

The notch is sadly the new home button, which differentiates the iPhone from others. The notch design is purely aesthetic, whereas the home button was born from function.

Nothing is so perfect that it can't be complained about.

I think the notch looks stupid, but it wouldn't necessarily stop me from getting one. What *will* stop me from getting one is that it doesn't really offer me anything significant of value for the high price they want to sell it to me for.

Honestly, the phone that interests me the most is last year's iPhone SE. I never loved the sharp edges of that phone, but the size is about perfect for one-handed usage (it could be argued that the earlier smaller-screened iPhones were even better for one-handed usage).

I'm also disappointed that their watch is still square. A round edge-to-edge display-filling watch with complete flexibility for users to change the watch faces would be ideal. You can get this with Android Wear, but Google half-asses things on their side in different ways, and for someone who is largely in the Apple ecosystem, an Andoid Wear watch isn't going to really cut it. I want Apple to give me a round-faced watch.

Remember when Apple sued Samsung for "rounded corners" and Android fans were like "it's a rectangle with rounded corners, what do you want? A triangle?"

And here is Apple inventing a new shape, a rectangle with rounded corners and a notch. Tim is a genius.

People can be critical of something without being a hater. I myself love almost everything Apple does, but because I don’t like the notch you’re gonna call me a hater?

I like it and don’t think it’s an issue at all. In the hands on videos, I barely noticed it. I think it’ll be different once you have it in your hands.

He's the one acting like a paid shill. Lol.

Link didn't work on my iPad Pro, but I have no need or desire of a job with apple.

I have never seen a post were you didn't like something Apple did so your opinions are null and void. SMH

When Tim and Apple staff peruse MR; and we know you do; they must roll their eyes at all this bellyaching.
