What about that movie or game where something happens in the corner or in the notch?

Iphone X users just deliberately don't see that?

This kind of reminds me of Steve Jobs taking away something and arrogantly calling it a "new feature." :D

Purely a marketing tatctic. If they hid the sensors within a small bezel, the phone would look just like an S8, G6 etc. they want this phone to stand out. When you see that notch you’ll know exactly what phone it is.

Kind of like " sticking out like a sore thumb", not very good marketing if that is truly the case

"Controversial"... just like the iPhone 7/7+'s "controversial" camera bump. Now nobody even thinks about it. People always have to make something out of nothing. Ugh.

It was iPhone 6/6+, and yes I thought about it every day. So much so, that I gave my iPhone 6 back to Apple and bought an iPhone SE instead. I will not buy another iPhone unless the back is flush. I will keep my iPhone SE until it physically dies, or is updated.

I hated that camera bump so much. And I hate this stupid lazy-ass design of the iPhone X display. It's asinine and stupid. Steve absolutely would have fired someone over that idiotic design. It's the stupidest damn thing Apple has done in 10 years, without a doubt.

I think people are making much ado about nothing. I think the design is beautiful and really sets Apple apart. It's their new "home button" that made the current design iconic. Mini bezels? So safe... so unimaginative... so boring... so un-Apple-like.

If I have any concerns, it's the lack of one handed operability now that control center has been moved to the top right and reachability has been removed. Apple could have easily put that functionality at the bottom of the screen. They have that entire width to work with. Who knows, Apple might have other plans.

It doesn't matter... I'm excited for this iPhone and will be ordering on day one. I hope all of you who are complaining about the notch buy the iPhone 8/plus so there's more X for those of us who really appreciate it. :D

All that to say that you'll probably be preordering on day one, amirite? :D
I'm going to look at the note 8 as we speak. 9 years with the iPhone. It's getting stale and now this. I love the design of the iphone overal besides this huge flaw. I'd have to sell my Apple Watch also.
Also the storage lineup is so bad for Apple. It's good for business but it's bad for loyal customers that have bought the 128 gig. Compromise or throw 150$ more at something you don't need. Lovely Apple. Lovely.
Doesn't sit well with me

No one asked for a notch in the top. Now that one is there, the bezel at the top makes sense. It's ok to adjust as you are given more details. The notch is out of place when in landscape. For a company that has painstakingly talked about .001mm chamfers on corners of devices, this is a complete screw up. It can be taken care of by the OS but they are refusing to do that for some odd reason.

Heh... "courage", don't ya know? ;)

For anyone who claims that this wouldn't have happened under the direction of Steve Jobs, I feel like Steve would have easily been able to sell us on the notch by telling a good story about how they arrived at that particular decision and why the result is superior to every other design out there.

What does the notch bring to the table? The time and other symbols could have been moved below and made it straight across with no loss in useable screen. Plenty of space above the mail icon and the camera icon to put the time and stuff.
That's because this is version 1, wait till the Xs comes out next year...

I wonder if the touch screen is active in the notch area or if there is a way to turn on the OLED in the notch area?

It would have been better to leave a little top and bottom bezel for grip and place no bezels on the sides and move all the buttons to the top or simplify to one and wrap the OLED all the way around enclosed with the glass. Would look awesome.

The button was on the top before and now that it's smaller again maybe it can return.

With the notch, Apple is officially breeding refrigerators and toasters.

Anyone ask Woz what he thinks of the notch yet? They panned into him at the Keynote in the audience.

Who cares? The other Steve ceased being relevant in the early 80s.

Then you're forced to pick up the phone to unlock. Often I unlock my iPhone while it lays flat on my desk or nightstand. Fumbling with my iPhone while half asleep would be bad since I have wood floors.

Double tap and put in the PIN. That's what I do when it's on the nightstand. Or I have to pick it up to look at it anyway and the finger on the back isn't that bad.

Doesn't bother me at all with just the look, the pictures, in videos, etc. Design looks nice and I'll be pre-ordering one of these bad boys.

I care what his thoughts are on it. I'm sure tons of people do too

> ...Controversial...

It's as controversial as you want to make it. If you don't like the notch there are a lot of other great options for phones, both from Apple and otherwise.

The top should be black with all the status bar elements to save space for the actual screen. The bottom should have a touch bar like the MacBooks for quick settings, Siri, etc with the new home swipe. It honestly seems like apple's software has fallen behind in resent years.

Has anyone seen where the battery percentage is going to be? I hope they give us that option and not get rid of it

We can only hope that Apple starts putting notches on their MacBooks, iMacs, and iPads so that there is uniformity. A notch in every Apple display would take a lot of courage.

The notch really isn’t that bad if it’s utilized properly. Apple demonstrates this in their sample photos.

Well, the notch is something Samsung WON'T copy.

You have to be pretty low and unoriginal to copy from Moto.

There's been a notch in their logo since almost the beginning. Nobody ever complained about it. So it's appropriate there's a notch in their flagship phone.

They couldn't even put USB-C in their flagship devices... That means the notch is a given on the next MacBook Pro ;)

Thinner bezels and a tiny notch on a MacBook Pro? Hell yea I’ll take it! The screen would look so glorious!

Rounded corners are fine but rounded edges like on the S8 is terrible since you always have a constant glare along the side of the phone thus distracting you and ruining the screen contrast. At work I always see the overhead lights reflecting off the edges of peoples S8. That is a total fail.

I don't notice it at all to be honest. The infinity display is gorgeous.
