I'm curious what people are planning on doing when they pick up their X. I'm torn between restoring from a backup of my 7 or just starting fresh.

Thoughts?

I have rarely encountered an issue from a back up. I always encrypt my back ups and restore from that because if I need to restore or set up a new phone, I want everything just as it was and all my passwords, health data, etc., to be there. I hate having to input passwords again. I can't remember them.

I always restore from backup. Only one time have I had issues that required setting the phone up as new.

Good question, I ended up setting up my iPad as a new tablet when I got it this past summer.

I usually set up my new phones from a backup, I'm not sure what the advantage of going fresh provides - other then choosing what apps get installed.

Plus what about your images, if you have a lot of pictures on your phone will they not come over if you set it up as new?

Once you login into your iCloud account pictures, messages, emails, etc restore. Basically anything you use iCloud for will return even when you set up as new.

I prefer restore becuase it saves having to redownload apps and arranging folders. Plus I have little setting changes like vibrate off and a few other things that carry over with a restore.

My Messages never restore.

Definitely restore. I play Real Racing 3. Gotta get that $2,875,324,431 in cash and $2,987,455.207 in gold carried over. lol

I don't store my pictures on iCloud (maybe I should start), so it sounds like when the times comes for a new phone for me, if I set it up as new, I'll not get my pictures that are on my Se

I was just refreshing my memory and learning how to do a new phone now that I have an AW. I don’t use the cloud so is backing up with iTunes encrypted just as good?

I always set up as new. It keeps any issues that may have been in my previous back up out of the new phone software. Plus with iOS 11, once I sign into keychain, it auto fills my passwords both in apps and on the websites.

Encrypted backup.

For some reason I don’t trust iCloud backups. Yes with basic passwords through keychain, but not the data heavy stuff like pictures. Plus I am a text message hoarder.
