How will you configure your iPhone X?

Setup as new phone, the only thing that will be missed is app data. Pictures, notes emails etc is all iCloud based. Sure I would like to have my text messages but I can do without it if I have to. I'm wondering if Apple brings back the text message sync feature, how it would work with iCloud restores or clean installations. I wonder if on a clean installation if it will pull back the messages from the cloud.

Darn it! This is the only thing holding me back from restoring as new

Well... here's to hoping it comes with 11.1.

I too am very anxious for this. Especially with the AW (hopefully) and Messages on Mac. I hate having to delete three sets of conversations.

Another reason I want to set up as new is to minimize the bugs that may carry over, at least I hope they will go away. For years now I have been plagued with the screen rotation bugs. Now that I've thought about it, I have set up as new iPhones in the past and the screen rotation bugs are still there. It does happen once in a while and is very annoying.

Restore from backup. Always worked for me. A iPhone is not a Mac. No need for a fresh install unless of course there is some battery draining issue with your profile that you can’t remedy.

And I also have never fresh installed a Mac OS. Apple is good at this, not like windows.

I've never had the opportunity to do backups on my Macs before very recently. Now that I have time machine running, however, you can bet your ass I will be restoring from backups in the future. ^_^ I am deeply in love with time machine.

The best practice is always setup as a new phone. Everyone there is an issue with your phone, Apple always want to to first try restore it, if still not helping they will ask you to try to setup as a new phone and see if the issue resolved.
I do feel lazy sometimes and just didn’t want to dive into each apps and see what’s saved on the cloud and what’s not. The sacrifice is you might be running into some issue here and there, or not having the most optimized experience.

If there is a major issue, sure. But the whole idea of iTunes/iCloud backup/restore is that you don't have to set up your device every single time. I've personally never had an issue, but that's not to say that other people haven't had better luck just starting fresh every time.

I don't store my pictures on iCloud (maybe I should start), so it sounds like when the times comes for a new phone for me, if I set it up as new, I'll not get my pictures that are on my Se

If for some reason you don’t want to store photos in iCloud Photo Library, you could still have your local photos / camera roll as part of an iCloud or iTunes backup so they carry over if you restore a new phone from an existing backup.

huh? when u set up as new pictures don’t return

They will if you have iCloud Photo Library enabled.

With iOS 11 Health data can now be synced to iCloud (there’s a toggle under iCloud settings).

Yes they do if you use iCloud photos. As soon as you login to iCloud they are restored.

It is just like a mac. When you set up a new Mac and sign into iCloud all of your iCloud services are restored: calendars, mail, photos, contacts, etc.

You can set up as new and be comfortable knowing your photos and iCloud info will restore if you use iCloud services. That’s a major reason why it’s so good. That is also the reason a new iPad can be set up as new and all of your info transfers.
ohh i didn’t know that i asked this question a while back here and nobody replied.
so u saying once i get my new iphone i can do that and restore my old phone before trading it in and pics won’t delete

Make sure you enable iCloud and iCloud Photo Library and wait till all your video's and photos are uploaded. You can verify via www.icloud.com on your computer. Check if your complete Camera Roll is in there.

I always set up as a new phone. After logging into iCloud, it makes it pretty easy to get everything back going again.

ok so if i don’t wanna loose my passwords i have to enable keychain too?

Definitely set up as new. don't want to load it up with stuff from a background.

Will be easy to set it up by comparing it to the old phone

1 last question i’ve heard contacts and calendar stays too what about notes ? i loose them if i set up as new
Notes will also get synced via iCloud, IF you have enabled it.
Just enable EVERYTHING within the iCloud settings, and you are good to go. :)

This. Whatever you have turned on in iCloud will sync once you login on a new device (Mac iPhone, or iPad)

In case you’re curious about what other items can be synced via iCloud lol:

I just keep shaking my head at people who go the route of a fresh install to avoid “bugs” or “corrupted data.” So ridiculous. Just install from a backup folks. This isn’t complicated.
